I always enjoy the Easy Writer blog and some great points were made, but it's worth pointing out that without Pam Keller helping to push to have the names of the Iraqi fallen added to the memorial Fullerton would have continued to pretended all wars ended with Vietnam.
I often have to remind myself that not all elected officials are self serving. I wont assume to know the motives of the others mentioned, but "PK" demonstrates time and time again that she votes against her own political interests. I would list a great example here, but the issue I'm thinking of was so unpopular in our conservative town I would be doing her a disservice by doing so. Suffice it to say the vote was 4-1, everyone knew the issue was lost but she still voted her conscious. For this she will always have my respect. I do not for a second buy that Ms. Keller thought of Veterans day as a photo op. If any politician deserved to be there that day she did.
BTW - I am much more comfortable bashing these guys, it actually makes me somewhat uneasy defending one. Lets not put me in this position again. : )
I would have posted this on on the Easy Writer blog, as Gustavo is just linking to it, but the comment section is closed.
Thanks
Posted On: Thursday, Dec. 4 2008 @ 12:44PMOkay Baxter, so Keller got the medical marijuana thing right. She also went along with the crowd on the Jefferson Commons monstrosity and the Amerige Court disaster/public giveaway. Sorry. No sale. I'm still waiting for a Fullerton liberal to act substantially different from a Chamber of Commerce Republican.
Posted On: Thursday, Dec. 4 2008 @ 1:23PMAnd now that I think of it, The Fullerton Observer hardly deserves the title of newspaper since it observes no professional jouralistic standards. But I guess almost anything looks good compared to the reguritation of city hall press releases by Barbara Giasone and the News Tribune.
Posted On: Thursday, Dec. 4 2008 @ 1:52PMDavid: You're being harsh on the Observer, as astute as your other North County observations are, although you won't find a complaint from me on the Giasone dig...
Posted On: Thursday, Dec. 4 2008 @ 2:13PMSorry, Gustavo, I know from personal experience the reckless way that the Kennedy clan have run that operation over the years. Unnamed sources, anonymous "letters to the edito,r" utter confusion of editorial and news, snide and rude comments about people they don't like, innuendo, etc; always big on "diversity" unless it comes to opinions they don't like. Why you might almost think it's a blog!
BTW, are you coming to Correa's gig today?
Posted On: Thursday, Dec. 4 2008 @ 2:25PMI'll let the Kennedys defend themselves. Won't be with Lou, but only 'cause I gotta do something with the gal...
Baxter: Good point. Strange about the closed comments...
Posted On: Thursday, Dec. 4 2008 @ 2:36PMAfter a candidate’s forum, Barbara G. reported that 12 year incumbent Dr. Jones supported term limits, while everyone in attendance (including a camcorder) heard the complete opposite.. what planets she on. Furthermore, the Observer really isn't a newspaper. David, thanks for not allowing this one to slip through the cracks.
Posted On: Thursday, Dec. 4 2008 @ 7:15PMTony, my wife and I used to live in one of those roof top apartments and before downtown got so crazy we loved that place. Those must be the coolest pads in town. You and your brother were great landlords and took great care of us. We have even had drinks at Miki's together with Pete Schindler many years ago. You gave us 100% of our deposit back, even offered to lower our rent when we gave notice, I guess you liked us. You may be the best landlord i ever had, a class act and I respect you for that ... but please, don't pretend that there was any chance of David Zenger letting the opportunity of slamming the Observer, or Jones "slip through the cracks". You and David are like the OC political blog tag team. Any chance you guys get to trash the Observer, or any number of people you deem to be political enemies is taken. One year it was Chaffee, the next Jones. & Florentine ... I'm sure I am forgetting dozen of others. Crossing you guys is like fucking with the mob, the shit storm you dish out is relentless. Whatever, that's your thing, I'm just happy we have always been cool, BUT don't pretend that there is no agenda at play. You have not exactly been subtly, so don't pretend, it's insulting. Own it.
I think the Observer is about the best thing about this town. Without the Observer most of us would have no idea what idiots people like Dick Jones are. I do wish Sharon would stop sanitizing my letters to make them soccer mom friendly. I end up sounding like a whinny bitch by the time they get done, but regardless, I look forward to every issue. They called you out on your chicken shit robo calls, and you are understandably pissed off ... that why you hate the Observer. If you thought of them as a an ally you'd be buying 1/2 page adds.
BTW - a friend of mine who lives in one of the SOCO lofts made "SUCK MY DICK ... JONES" shirts. I may wear mine to the next council meeting.
Posted On: Friday, Dec. 5 2008 @ 8:00AMBaxter, I have no idea who you are or why you believe my mission is "trashing" the Observer. It's not. I haven't lived in Fullerton for many years and its issues are failrly low on my list of priorities. However, I do read Gustavo's posts pretty regularly and so when an opportunity arises...
I did live in Fullerton for 18 years and I spent quite a bit of time observing the behavior of the Observer and every one of my comments above stands.
BTW, somebody told me that the Observer actually endorsed Jones for city council this year. Please explain that interesting fact. Do you admire them for endorsing "an idiot"?
Sorry you had to move out of the coolest pad in town when things "got crazy" I suggest you divert some of your antipathy from me (whom you have never met) to the people who overdeveloped downtown Fullerton over the years (including Pam Keller), with hardly a word of dissent from your beloved rag.
I'm also sorry the Observer sanitizes your letters. Fortunately this blog doesn't. And so now instead of sounding like a "whinny bitch" you come off like a whinny, foul-mouthed bitch.
Posted On: Friday, Dec. 5 2008 @ 8:34AMI think we may have met. Aren't you the dude with the porn mustache?
"Do you admire them for endorsing "an idiot"?" The Observer endorsements are based on core subscribers feedback. A month or so before the election I received a questioner, I assume many others did as well. The Observer endorsements were not editorial in nature they were based on the responses they got from their readership."Your friend" must have failed to tell you that. I do agree, it's a shame that a folksy rambling tool like Jones continues to win. I certainly did not endorse him.
"Sorry you had to move out of the coolest pad in town when things "got crazy". Things did get crazy. In the course of about two months I broke up fight on the street, my car was stolen and we caught kids doing blow on our patio at one in the morning. It was time to go, but I can't blame PK, we moved out and bought our house long before she ran for office. But thanks for the condolences, it was a great flat before all that.
"I'm also sorry the Observer sanitizes your letters. Fortunately this blog doesn't. And so now instead of sounding like a "whinny bitch" you come off like a whinny, foul-mouthed bitch." If given the choice I'll take the latter, again thanks for your empathy.
You are, however, mistaken, I think your mission is to be a pedantic twat, trashing the Observer is just a side gig.
Steve Baxter, thanks for the compliments, but, "Crossing you guys is like fucking with the mob..." just a little advise my friend, be more careful of what you write, it could come back to haunt you. FYI my mission is to inform the ignorant and to admit ignorance.
Posted On: Friday, Dec. 5 2008 @ 10:35AMDavid and Baxter: It's "whiny bitch". HA!
Posted On: Friday, Dec. 5 2008 @ 10:36AMGustavo, in David's defense he was quoting me. My bad.
Tony - that was a little harsh on my part, it was not meant to be taken literally. The way the housing markets going I may need to use you as a reference in the future. I prefer you focus on the nice things i said about you. : )

Unfortunately, no one knew of Pam's personal story with the soldier family. This was spelled out by her in great hand wringing, hankie producing detail in the comments on my blog. However, had you seen the day and the number of veterans who were waiting to say something to the families, the appearance of having to wait for the photo ops was off-putting. Many left. My suggestion is in the future, the American Legion put stanchions around the memorial while the families are placing wreaths so they can have some privacy.
And yes, while she might be credited with bringing up their names, it's less likely think of it as vast right-wing conspiracy than it would be to call it a gross oversight that was finally righted. I'm glad she did. No doubt, there will be more names to add in the future as we continue our military presence throughout the world and over the years.
It's reasonable to expect our public officials to use a bit of decorum. They not only have to avoid impropriety, they must do all they can to prevent the appearance of impropriety as well.
It's not reasonable to think that just because you agree with 99% of what someone does, that this makes you immune from pointing out that 1%. I think "friends" who don't do this aren't friends at all.
The comments are closed because I am in Texas for a short while. I don't like spending a lot of time on the internet whilst I'm away, hence, my comments are closed on my blog for the duration.
Baxter, I'm sure we've never met. I'd remember a big-mouth blowhard like you. Your familiarity with "porn mustaches," is a bit peculiar, but it's probably attributable to too much free time and free internet access.
As to being a "pedantic twat" (more literary genius) all I can say is that the semi-literate often resent those who have learned how to compose real sentences. I've learned to accept that as a blogging fact of life.
Tell you what, though, Baxter: I don't think you've got the guts to wear that t-shirt to a council meeting. I think you keep it in your closet and fantasize about wearing it in public. But I'll make you a deal. If you wear it to the next Fullerton City Council l meeting, and go up to the podium during public comments I'll give you a hundred bucks. Think of all the cool stuff you could buy!
Kanani: I read "pk"'s comment on your blog. I noticed she deployed the singular personal pronoun 20 times in just a few sentences. Seems she still missed the point of your original post!

Well, I would have favored a simple, "I knew the family, and am sorry if it came off looking the wrong way," but then different people have different boundaries.
As far as The Observer goes, I figure anything pisses off so many people must have some nutritional value.
Hooah from Texas!

David, thanks for the offer of a whole $100.00 but please do not count me among your associates that turn tricks for cash. I'll speak at the podium when an issue I really care about is under discussion. Those shirts actually do exists, I think I wore it to the beer garden once, but you are correct, I do not have the guts to wear it to a council meeting. Feel free to throw that $100.00 towards a veterans non-profit this holiday and forgive my false bravado.
Kanani, I don't know you very well, but I think we agree on many issues. This will have to be one we disagree on. PK knew the family, she was there for them. Pictures were taken. In my mind this is a non issue. Pam Keller has proven to me in time that she is unlike most of the local politicians I've come to know. I really trust her motives. I was not there that day so I will trust you on the regrettable perception. I fear my initial post that was intended to simply stick up for Pam has actually dragged this on. I regret ever posting it. She explained the events on your blog I should have left it at that.
Go Pacman!
Posted On: Saturday, Dec. 6 2008 @ 5:59PMHey David! Or do you prefer Porn Moustache (you both spelled it incorrectly, idiot). Just an objective observer, but do you really want to throw grammar stones when you live in such a fragile house? Please re-read your posts, you moron. If you need an example you are more stupid than you sound.
Posted On: Sunday, Dec. 7 2008 @ 1:14PMwhy did you leave out a comma? You are more stupid than you sound (like what?)
