I am so sad. I was shocked when I saw this in my office la times (oc ed.) this morning (my bos subscribes). will, you will be sorely, desperately missed. you, and the entire staff of writers at oc weekly, are what got me interested in politics as an adult. interested in what was really taking place in the society around me, making me angry and motivated to action. your leadership was invaluable and I am pained by the news.
wishing you the best~

Will Swaim is the Weekly for me. Man's got a heart the size of...something with an extremely large heart, and there's no easier person in the world to talk to. You know you had a good thing going when the highest of the high offers to get coffee for even the interns. Dude's a god.

Debby Bodkin says:
As an OC citizen, it is because of the leadership of Mr. Swaim and his journalists that have shown the true meaning of speaking truths in the OC, free from the political influences that continue to destroy our country's freedoms of speech, press and opinion.
For me personally, at age 51 years old, I am not sure if freedoms of press and opinion would have survived in the OC, without the OC Weekly's leadership. Sometimes it is hard to imagine how many of us go through life with a bag over our heads, living in the safe OC bubble, hiding from political and government dysfunction so we are not criticized or defamed by our peers.
I, along with many others in the OC, are still learning about the importance of protecting basic freedoms of speech, press and opinion. And, we are thankful that these important life lessons did not have to wait for the OC Register's leadership. Self-serving political agendas will never serve the public's right to be fully and honestly informed.
Mr. Swaim, may God bless you in your new life chapter... we all pray that the professionalism of your staff will continue the legacy that the OC Weekly has earned, with hard work and dedication, beating all odds that the politically-connected stacked against you in the OC. It is obvious that speaking truth is very powerful and the OC Weekly did it, week after week, month after month and year after year, without hesitation.
Best regards to you and your family always.
Mike and Debby Bodkin and family

Will Swaim and his paper have been one giant pain in the ass to a county that was in desperate need of one.
Godspeed, my friend.

Never met Will S but sort of got a sense of him through the OC Weekly. Anyone that would read an overly snarky, smart-assed letter to the editor and say, "Hire this guy," has to be a fantastic editor. And a great guy.
Hope the man comes by and reads all the nice words left here. He deserved every last one.
(Don't tell the Haidls about this, huh?)

Swaim, you done good. I hated living in Orange County until I picked up an OC Weekly. Well, until I actually read an OC Weekly, considering I first picked it up when I was eleven years old, upon which I tried to coerce escorts into free phone sex. I'm not sure when I realized the pointlessness of that endeavor and began reading the articles, but when I did, it was an almost religious experience, inspiring a reverse baptism...I'd always loved frolicking in the surf city waves until I actually read your rag. Haven't been in the water since. Ewww. Regardless, thanks for the laughs, the righteous indignation, and convincing me to correct my Northern Cali friends when they introduced me as being from LA. Good luck, man.

The effing Business Journal required a log in thingy that I wasn't going to go into but for the most part, Gustavo, you couldn't have said it any better. Will helped shape the paper and I can only hope his next endeavors prove to be just as fruitful as this was. Godspeed, Will. Godspeed.
