Orange Juice: Not From Concentrate

Categories: Main

The great telenovela that is the Orange Juice! blog (the Weekly's Best Blog for 2007) continues. A week after the SanTana city council booted Juicer Thomas Gordon from a gang commission, and colleagues Art Pedroza and Luis Rodriguez resigned in protest, longtime SanTana activist Sean Mill returned today from a Mexico vacation to blast the blog that gives him a home--namely, Orange Juice. In fairness, Mill was merely reacting to Pedroza's earlier post wondering out loud if he should boot Mill since councilman Sal Tinajero (whom Mill supports) was the man behind Gordon's ouster. The comments are already flying between Mill, Pedroza, Gordon, and others (how long before Godwin's Law of Nazi Analogies takes effect?) and even drew in poor ol' Matt "Jubal" Cunningham, the proprietor of OC Blog.

Hey, Juicers: love the back-and-forth for purely schaudenfreude reasons, but please don't let your blog disintegrate into the petty bickering that nearly ruined this paper. Eyes on the prize, amigos: the toppling of el caudillo Pudillo.

**UPDATE: Mill is off Orange Juice. Damnit, guys...

Sean H. Mill says:

The biggest lie that has been thrust upon the public in response to the removal of Thomas Gordon from E.P.I.C. is that others resigned from their city commissions in protest. The lie which is still being repeated by some bloggers here on the Orange Juice states that Luis Rodriguez and Ryan Trabuco resigned from the Housing and Redevelopment and E.T.A.C. respectively to show solidarity for Gordon. That simply is not true and Art Pedroza and others have known that all along.

Rodriguez and Trabuco are leaving their positions for personal reasons not related to the Gordon incident. Rodriguez will not be able to dedicate the time required because of new employment opportunities that have arisen and Trabuco is moving to the San Diego area. They have both stated this and Rodriguez even posted as much on this blog.

The fact that Pedroza new the truth did not keep him from seizing the opportunity to mislead the public and members of the mainstream media. Unfortunately the mainstream media bought into the story concocted by Pedroza and did not clarify the reasons for the resignations with those actually resigning. Pedroza even stated to me that he knew that Luis' resignation had nothing to do with Thomas, but he felt that it was a terrific opportunity to spin it to fit his argument.

I believe that the best weapon we have to exact change in our community is the truth. If folks are going to lie about one thing they will be will to lie about anything. Do the people of Santa Ana really want to follow those that claim to be leading the "revolution" when that "revolution" is built on lies?

We can get change without lies and grandstanding. It is up to you as to which way you want to go. I have chosen to use the truth.
