Another law and order triumph for Sheriff Mike Carona. OK, maybe that law doesn't belong there-- there's going to be a lawsuit contending that what Carona did wasn't legal (which in turn calls the triumph part into question)-- but Carona is definitely enforcing order in the sheriff's department. Carona has clearly demonstrated that anyone challenging his leadership in an election is going to pay a big price for such independence. After all, what do people think this is? A democracy or something?
The Los Angeles Times reports:
Orange County sheriff's Lt. Bill Hunt, who unsuccessfully challenged his boss in this year's election, said Wednesday that he has resigned after being told that he would be demoted to patrolman because of his criticism of Sheriff Michael S. Carona during the campaign.
Hunt, who is going to set up shop as a private investigator in Santa Ana, plans to sue Carona, so undoubtedly more here's will appear in the future.

Hell, even Dana Parsons at The Times is trashing him. That's like pissing off Larry King...nearly impossible.
I am looking forward to more "here's", hopefully in Hunt's favor.

Well OC you get the government the Republican Central Committee lets you vote for

One would think that eventually someone, anyone, would start connecting the dots here in the OC...
Unfortunately, the good 'ol boy network consisting of politically-connected and religious Republicans just keep on stomping on those who dare to speak out in exercise of free speech, press and opinion. Let's hope that 2007 brings justice in the OC.... and demands accountability from those who have destroyed one career, personal and business reputation after another. It is getting to be quite a disappointment in the leadership of elected officials. How many more thousands of tax dollars, families, careers, children and journalists will be forced to endure the wrath of the Republican GOP?

Dear Orange County Board of Supervisors:
Regarding: Request for OC Grand Jury Intervention, Denials of Due Process, First Amendment Rights and Legal Conflicts of Interest, Failures to Protect Children & Employees, Political Retaliation
Dear Honorable Supervisors:
As you are aware, during the past several months, I have sent multiple communications with supporting documentation to your attention, as elected public officials in Orange County, California. My communications concern potential legal conflicts of interest, political retaliations for exercise of First Amendment rights, denials of due process, failures to protect children from sex abuse crimes and school zone violence. Unfortunately, personal and business reputations, families and careers continue to be destroyed, without corrective action. The recent events surrounding Lt. Bill Hunt's demotion and retirement evidence the serious denials of due process in OC by attorneys licensed to practice law and those that may abuse political and/or government influences.
The intent of the law and the letter of the law determine ethical and legal decisions. However, without accountability from legal and political advisors representing the OC Sheriff, the OC District Attorney, politically-connected religious institutions and law firms, the civil liberties and safety of children, adults and employees exercising free speech, press and opinion, are at risk. In sum, potential legal conflicts of interest violations of the law committed by attorneys licensed to practice law in the State of California, retained and supervised by the County of Orange, OC Sheriff and OC District Attorney offices, while simultaneously representing the Catholic Diocese of Orange and the Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles, justify an OC Grand Jury investigation and IMMEDIATE corrective action.
Therefore, with respect, it is requested that the OC Board of Supervisors initiate an OC Grand Jury investigation into the potential legal conflicts of interest and political retaliations committed by attorneys licensed to practice law in California and the politically-connected that abuse legal ethics, trust and influence. As you are aware, children were sexually abused by employees of the Diocese of Orange and other non-profit, politically-connected religious institutions for many years. Public court records evidence that most crimes that destroyed lives and families were never addressed in a civil or criminal court of law. It is my belief that political and government influences have interfered with the protections of children and those who protect them as mandated reporters. The supporting documentation submitted to date evidences this statement. In addition, denials of due process continue to exist within the business and employment practices of religious and politically-connected law firms and organizations, without corrective action.
Although I am not an attorney, as a legal secretary for 25 years, I know enough about legal ethics and conflicts of interest to communicate the serious public safety issues that exist in Orange County and throughout the U.S. based on the ongoing political retaliations witnessed in OC alone. It is a disgrace that the two major law enforcement agencies in OC, the Sheriff's Department and the OC District Attorney share the same political and legal advisor, while politically-connected law firms continue to violate conflicts of interest laws. Children and families will never be safe if the two major law enforcement agencies in OC are free to substitute public safety for political and government self-serving agendas and favors. It is my understanding that attorneys can only serve One Master; however, political retaliations and adverse employment decisions are orchestrated by influential attorneys licensed to practice law in California all for business and personal financial gain.
In addition, due to the fact that my personal home computer has been "hacked" again, I will be asking the OC District Attorney's office to do a thorough evaluation of the ongoing privacy violations of the law my family and I have been forced to endure during the past 4 1/2 years. To date, no corrective actions have occurred and ongoing retaliations by those in positions of authority continue.
Please initiate an immediate Grand Jury investigation, free from the influences of the OC District Attorney and the OC Sheriff offices. If you fail to investigate and/or implement corrective action in these matters, please understand that children, families and employees will never be safe from civil rights violations and the public's participation in matters of public interest and safety will be chilled and discouraged, without corrective action.
Sincerely,
Debby Bodkin, Founder, www.catholics4justice.com,

[...] See if this sounds familiar. The Los Angeles Times reports: A sheriff's lieutenant filed a lawsuit Tuesday against Orange County Sheriff Michael S. Carona, alleging Carona retaliated against him for supporting a rival in last year's race to be the county's top lawman. [...]

Well it all sounds like more extortion and alot of drama. I am just a criminal justice student, have to read into Bill Hunt. But either way I am happy for Bill for setting up shop as a private investigator. If you're a PI you can carry on and apply your skills which gets back to the basics of why the department exists. There is alot of crime out there that needs to be attended to.
thanx,
nikkipi
