The OC Connection to KPFK's Anti-Semitic Show

Cebada-Augustin.jpg
Type "Augustin Cebada" on YouTube to hear his take on plain ol' white folk!
The Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles has a fascinating article in tomorrow's edition about "La Causa," a show that airs Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. on KPFK-FM 90.7 and is hosted by a 1960s refugee who calls himself Augustin Cebada (not his real name) and allows some of the worst anti-Semitic bile to soil Southern California since La Voz de Aztlan--and more on that connection in a bit! I'm quoted in the piece by reporter Robert Loiderman, probably because I host a show on KPFK but more likely because I got the Journal to pay attention to anti-Semitic lunatic Latinos years ago with this piece on La Voz. Loiderman did a great job, although a bit too measured for my tastes considering "Cebada" has previously allowed listeners to rail about ZOG and insist Jews have their symbols on American currency. Most importantly, Loiderman forgot to mention the Orange County connections to "La Causa."

One of them is La Voz de Aztlan, the gay-bashing, Jew-trashing website run by a former Buena Park employee named Hector Carreon (note: Carreon is a Sephardic last name) who operates his bit of Internet caca from Whittier. "Cebada" is so far off the deep end that he interviewed Carreon in 2007 as if La Voz de Aztlan was a legitimate voice. The audio is no longer up on the KPFK archives, but Carreon still has a page crowing about his appearance on "La Causa" and even claimed he'd be working with "Cebada" on the show. "La Voz de Aztlan is working with the staff of 'La Causa' to create additional radio programming at KPFK for La Raza. Anyone interested in this project should contact La Voz de Aztlan," Carreon wrote. Did anything come out of this partnership of pendejos? Still does: "Cebada" and his guests still give shout-outs to La Voz and frequently use the site as talking points the way conservatives use Rush.

But La Voz isn't even the closest Orange County connection to "La Causa." That would be a weekly moron who calls himself Tlaloc.

The name itself should raise alarms: How many people who have Nahuatl names that aren't Citlali or Quetzal were actually born with them? Tlaloc is "Cebada's" Orange County correspondent, but usually spends his time railing about Jews; just last week, "Tlaloc" said he felt little sympathy for the victims of Bernie Madoff because, like the felon, those victims were "shylocks and shysters." He said this twice, and when the hell was the last non-Stormfront.com, non-Shakespearean time you heard someone use the term "shylock" to describe someone? When I repeated that line to my colleague, Nick Schou, he laughed the type of gallows-humor laugh someone who has spent years monitoring hate groups only can do.

"Tlaloc" tries to opine on Orange County issues, but his grasp of la naranja's stories is as laughable as "Cebada" making up a new name for himself. He once said Larry "Nativo" Lopez wasn't radical enough and then talked about Chicano rights icon Bert Corona organizing in OC during a citrus strike "in the 1940s or 1950s" in Orange County alongside Fred Ross, the mentor to Cesar Chavez. Four huge problems with this when matched up against the historical record that is Corona's autobiography, Memories of Chicano History: The Life and Narrative of Bert Corona:

1. The last citrus strike in Orange County was the 1936 Citrus War.
2. 1936 is not the 1940s or 1950s.
3. Corona never worked alongside Fred Ross
4. The only time Corona spent as a young organizer in Orange County was in helping out with a lawsuit in Westminster in 1938 and when he was stationed at the Santa Ana Army Air Base for a while during World War II.

Hopefully, KPFK management boots these bums off the air. And, until they do, people, we'll be covering this waste of radio space like we do Barbara Coe, Ergun Kirlikovali, Carreon and other hate-mongers--even more so since "Cebada" and "Tlaloc" just give more fodder to the Know Nothing nation. Gracias for nothing, babosos.

Mr. Eichholz says:

Wow! After reading this, and the linked JJ article, it seems that "Cebada" should have been known as the "Misinformation Minister" of the Brown Berets!

"Lost Causa" sounds like a real piece of work on our public airwaves with its factually challenged, anti-Semitic sidekick Tlaloc...

I'm tuning in tonight to take a listen for myself, but thanks again Gustavo for taking on both sides of stupid!

Frank says:

I am not at all surprised about anti-semitism within the Chicano community. On a casual stroll through the newstands at the Mercado in Boyle Heights a couple of years ago I came across multiple editions of the "Elders of Zion."

A couple of more examples. I spent an hour trying to talk a latino student out of writing an essay for school on the good things that Hitler had done for Germany when I worked at the East Los Angeles Library back in the day. The very next day the boys father came in to tell me to mind my own business. It was clear he knew what his son was writing about and didn't care...in fact encouraged it.

While in college I joined MECHA. Our first "event" was a talk by a "scholar" who could trace Ronald Reagan's Nicaraugan policy back to the Jews. I soon quit MECHA.

Lastly, when we were visiting my wife's family in Auga Prieta I got to talking with her cousin who had been educated at the University of Mexico. Turns out she took a class on the "Elders of Zion" there.

So anti-semitism is nothing new in the Latin community. I believe that any radical movement, regardless of ethnicity, that comes out of the intelligentsia (almost all do, almost all lean to the extreme left), ultimately need a scapegoat, and the jews are the favored goat to scape in their philosphies.

It's really sad that KPFK allows garbage like this on the air. I stopped listening to all but a few shows after 9/11 conspiracy theorists kept on getting airtime on KPFK.

Really, Fed? So, can you tell us what "the Jew" Bernie Madoff has to do with Zionism? Or explain the use of "shylock" and calling his investors that?

Hollywood Jeff says:

Get over it. Jews invented Hollywood in all it greatness and all its sordidness and have controlled it since the beginning. Several books have been written about that fact. Only if you're Jewish or wish to praise that fact can you talk about it, however. Google a recent Joel Stein column in the LA Times. If you criticize, as did Marlon Brando, the stereotyping of Latinos, African-Americans, Arabs, Asians, Native Americans by Hollywood, you will be branded an "anti-Semite." If you want proof that Jews (not THE Jews) control the media, that's not a secret either. All you need to do is look at the ownership of the major papers, magazines, TV networks and their news directors. They are not all of a similar mindset, of course, but they do tend to be Jews. As for Villaraigosa, he has been hanging around synagogues and Jewish organizations so much, hoping that they'll fund him in his race governor that he has set a new record for political pandering within the LA city limits. He is the epitome of what may be called a Tio Taco. Last Dec. 11, he joined Gov. Schwarznegger in appearing at an LA fundraiser for Friends of the Israel Defense Forces which raised $2 million tax-exempt dollars for those US armed killers. Rather than point accusing fingers at La Causa, it would be better to get your own act together and work to correct the sordid coverage the Mexican-American community gets in the mainstream media and on Hollywood's movie screens. Defending Israel, BTW, is like defending apartheid South Africa. Seems you're more concerned with what they call Bernie Madoff then what Israel did to the people of Gaza and have been doing for the past 41 years. Hmm, Arellano, I think you're snitching to the Jewish Journal puts you right down on your knees there with the mayor.

It's endlessly frustrating to deal with these anti-semite wing-nuts who continually discredit those of us with genuine humanitarian opposition to Israel.

La Causa hurts La Causa.

Im glad that you brought this issue to the attention of the programmers at KPFK. They have posted a response to your post, and the L.A. Times article. KPFK is a wonderfull station that hosts many independent progressuve thinkers, and it doesnt need shows like this soiling its image. Most of the shows i listen to are filled with love, understanding, and the common goal of the betterment of society. Maybe you could add a little of that into your KPFK show.....

meow says:

also.. im glad that they air 9/11 information... too many people ignore it. That is VERY different from anti semetic remarks. You cant just bunch the two together. There are too many inconsistancies surrounding 9/11, if listening to an alternative view of the subject scared the above reader away, perhaps they're much better off with mainstream media outlets... they will never challenge your beliefs.

Hollywood yes, but they invented it. All of the major construction firms in the UK are Irish also, because they 'invented it'. Can you name me these Jews who control the media?

As far as I'm aware the likes of Rupert Murdoch, the Berkeley Brothers, Berlusconi, Ted Turner, Richard Desmond, Axel Springer, Tony O'Reilly, etc, etc are not Jews. Oh but I guess in your vile mind they are controlled by them. It's not too often I feel ashamed of my Catholicism, but reading some of the scumbags here, now is one of those times.

Anti-semites who worship a Jew. I don't think I'll ever get my head round that one

Maricruz says:

Whe did Chicanos start being the lapdogs of the Arabs? The Middle East conflict doesn't concern us. We have our own problems that we should address in our communities instead of being being used by the Arabs. Wake up gente the Arabs are using us to spread their propaganda. Some of us are stupid enough to believe that the Arabs have our interests at heart. The Arabs couldn't care less about the Latino community. The Arabs want to start trouble and are using using the Latino people to do it.

Thanks Gus for crticizing the pendejos who are making the Latino community look bad. Most Latinos are ignorant about what's happenning in the Middle East. Heck most of us are ignorant about what's happenning in Mexico and Latin America. Let's focus on our communities and tell the Arabs to fight their own battle!

Sergio Valdes says:

KPFK has been a sewer of anti - Jewish hatred for many years and under the regimes of Eva Georgia and Jim Lafferty it has gotten worse. Broadcasters like Ian Masters have lost all sense of restraint and regularly feature interviews with Walt and Mearsheimer and former CIA talking head Michael Scheur. All these people are rabid anti semites. Of all the anti-semitic broadcasters at KPFK Ian Masters is the most dangerous and insidious because he posits halfway logical arguments and he has famous politicians as guests on his show who are poorly informed about Masters Mel Gibson type biases. Or in the case of Mearsheimer, Walt, and Michael Scheur they know that Ian Masters hates Jews as much as they do so they feel comfortable with him. Another appalling bigot is Sonali Kolhatkar who sounds like a front-woman for Al Queada. Then there is Jerry Quickley who is a big supporter of the 9-11 airplanes being flown by wire, after the passengers were secretly deplaned at a area 51 type airfield and then the planes were re launched at their targets....of course Quickley expounds on the "cabal" or " the people from a small country in the middle east and their brethren in the USA" being the planners for 9-11. This is only the tip of the iceberg.
The Jews who appear on KPFK have to toe the company line, so to speak, and be more Catholic than the Pope, and therefore KPFK regularly features Amy Goodman, Noam Chomsky, and Norman Finkelstein (he claims the Holocaust is a hustle elderly Jews use to extort money out of Germany).
It is absolutely amazing that any Jews, or any right minded people, can still donate to KPFK. Maybe they only listen to the world music shows. And it is very sad that a Jewish community center hosts the performers from the world music show and refuses to reconsider its ties to the station, and a music director who often plays worshipful music about "Commandante Che" and similar heroic music about
Hugo Chavez. KPFK calls itself "free speech radio" but what it really is about is "Hate the Jews" and "Hate Cuban Refugees" and "Hate Everyone who Opposes Hugo Chavez" and of course KPFK loves every Muslim dictator and terrorist.

Aaron Aarons says:

There are so many falsehoods and right-wing biases in the last two comments that I only have the time and energy to refute a few of them.

First of all, though I'm no admirer of Norman Finkelsteins politics, he never claims that "the Holocaust is a hustle" nor does he charge "elderly jews" with using it "to extort money out of Germany". Rather, he charges lawyers and Zionist organizations (whom he calls "The Holocaust Industry") with using the Holocaust to extort money out of Germany (and Switzerland) for their own benefit, with Holocaust survivors getting very little of the money. He's been backed up in this by other Jews, including Raul Hilberg!

"Maricruz" asserts that members of one oppressed group, Chicanos, shouldn't support members of another oppressed group, Palestinians. All I can say about that is that the Zionist propagandists will use whatever arguments they think will sway some of their target audience, including appeals to selfish parochialism, and will make those arguments in the name of some member of the target population.

BTW, I'm a KPFA listener, not KPFK, so I don't recognize the names of most of the people mentioned in the screed signed "Sergio Valdez". But the ones I do recognize are, except for "Che", people who are rather soft on imperialism and Zionism, including supporting a two-state "solution" in Palestine that would leave at least 78% of that land as a racist, apartheid Jewish state. So the fact that the writer attacks them from the right indicates to me that the rest of the people he attacks are probably mostly OK.

Telhassee Teezee says:

KPFK is having their fund drive right now, it is a great time to NOT donate to these useful idiots, fellow travelers, and outright communists and supporters of international terrorism.
However KPFK will get TONS of money from various Muslim and Arab nationalist groups, that can come in with zero monitoring via paypal or donations from Gaza or Riyadh or up where Osama lives in the Tribal Territories in Pakistan. No doubt Osama earmarks some of his millions for the useful idiots at KPFK every year and the fund drive is a great ruse to enlist useful idiots and also to make a list of future
cannon fodder and potential recruitment list for suicide bombers. Why oh why doesn´t the FBI put a few traces on the money from FARC, from Saudi, from Gaza, Hezbollah, Syria, and from HUGO CHAVEZ , the money that keeps KPFK and Pacifica going and spouting their hate the USA PROPAGANDA ?¿
