So a bunch of gays got married today, and the Christian Right is livid (but where was Fred Phelps when you needed him?). Providing a much-needed coda for today was none other than the legendary Chuck Smith, founder of the Calvary Chapel movement (shown here in another fabulous shirt). He was just on KCAL-TV Channel 9 saying it's wrong for gays to marry (although he wasn't opposed to unions--maybe now he's for domestic partnerships?). The funniest part about his homophobic rant? Smith was spouting off while wearing a Hawaiian shirt and a lei. And now, we turn it over to Homer Simpson talking about Bart wearing such a shirt:
Homer: Marge, the boy was wearing a Hawaiian shirt.
Marge: So?
Homer: There's only two kind of guys who wear those shirts: gay guys and
big, fat party animals. [sad] And Bart doesn't look like a big,
fat party animal to me...
Marge: So, if you wore a Hawaiian shirt, it wouldn't be gay?
Homer: Right. Thank you.
We know which way you swing, Chuck--DIVINE!

I'd wager that DaddyBear has a pair of leather chaps hidden away someplace.
Pastor Smith looks to be the kind of guy who mysteriously enjoys that all-male bonding at the weekend Christian retreat a bit too much!

It seems that Mr. Gustavo is a Christian-phobe. Most Christians oppose the concept of gay marriage because it changes the definition of the word 'marriage'. It's like saying the color red will now include the color yellow. But never to let facts get in the way of a good hate, the left gleefully giggles about a man's shirt... (although I admit it was funny)

Mark: where did I impugn Christians? There are many good Christians in this world--those at the Metropolitan Community Church, and the Catholic Worker, to name a few congregations. Also, your simile is WEAK--men and women are still allowed to marry, right? So how does that change by allowing gays to do so?

Y'know, I'd been gay my whole life, and that Simpsons episode was the first time I EVER heard the Hawaiian shirts = gay thing....and really haven't since, which means their writing staff was probably coasting by that point...
