A commentator on my previous post about the latest pee-pee battle between OC Blog god Matt "Jubal" Cunningham and Newport Beach lawyer John Manly pointed out something that deserves further examination. The lawyer helping Cunningham and the Friends of Monsignor John, Darren Aitken, not only is Cunningham's former classmate at Servite High School (the all-boys Catholic prep in Anaheim) but is also the son of Wylie Aitken, one of the county's more prominent lawyers and a longtime Democratic Party activist. Aitken, in turn, is a proud Catholic who is listed as a Silver Sponsor in this year's edition of the Red Mass, going so far as to join Darren in presenting Diocese of Orange Bishop Tod D. Brown with gifts of bread and wine to consecrate. Wylie also helped the Diocese of Orange hammer out their 2005 $100 million settlement with 87 molestation victims. Given all this, Orange County Register columnist Frank Mickadeit's characterization today of the bipartisan nature of those professing to care for sex-abuse victims while spinning for pedophile apologists (and their apologists) as a "very strange coalition" isn't a mystery: it's part of the same, long, sad telenovela that is the Orange diocese sex-abuse scandal.

POLITICALLLY CORRECT says:

Gustavo, you are very much a gentleman and a talented/ethical journalist. However, there is only one way to describe the politically connected attorneys, judicial and law enforcement officers who play both sides of the fence for self-serving reasons:

ENABLERS!

These attorneys and the politically connected Catholics that have aided and abetted sex crimes that destroyed lives of children and families need to be charged with OBSTRUCTIONS OF JUSTICE, JUDICIAL ABUSE, LEGAL CONFLICTS OF INTEREST and CHILD ENDANGERMENT. Sadly, no one in this County should hold their breath or expect accountability... especially if you are POLITICALLY connected.

Bringing the Democrat Aitkens in on the matter is just another SMOKESCREEN... to assist in taking the focus off the OC Republican GOP. This is what you call fine-tuned and politically-motivated marketing.

Debby Bodkin says:

If I were a Catholic Bishop, worried about maintaining the social ministries that are given to society by the Church, while also guaranteeing that victims of clergy sex abuse crimes and their families would receive justice that had been denied for years, I would IMMEDIATELY file legal malpractice lawsuits against the attorneys that enabled the clergy abuse crisis to continue, without corrective action.

Bishops and other religious leaders should STOP enabling the clergy abuse crisis by fighting nationwide legislation similar to California and Delaware, and return due process to their business and employment practices.

Bishops are NOT attorneys, and attorneys advised Bishops and religious leaders that separation of Church and State and freedom of religion was a legal defense to reporting sex crimes committed by employees under their supervision, to the appropriate law enforcement agency.

In Orange County alone, Bishop Brown could easily recoup the millions of dollars paid out to victims of sex crimes if the Bishop evaluated how negligent his attorneys have been. Sadly, Peter Callahan, Thomas Rutherford, Albert Ballog, Daniel Sullivan, Julie Porter, Maria Schinderle, Michael John Peffer, the Aitkens and many others secretly hiding behind the attorney-client privilege, knew better than to wrongfully interpret laws for protecting children from sex crimes and other types of danger. The Diocese of Orange would have never been forced to pay out the millions they have paid to date if Bishop Brown's attorneys had studied harder in law school.

I have absolutely no sympathy for the evil legal advisors that have ENABLED sex crimes to continue by abusing the judicial process and the public media. In fact, Bishop Brown owes it to the faithful Catholics in OC to demand accountability from his negligent legal advisors.

If Bishop Brown chooses to continue employing the legal advisors that got him in to this mess, then Bishop Brown may eventually face even more serious charges in a court of law in the future. Filing legal malpractice claims against the attorneys who placed the protections of precious children last on their list would be seeking justice for negligent professional services rendered and paid for. Attorneys take an oath to uphold all the laws of the U.S. Constitution, without conflicts of interest, obstructions of justice and negligence.

Once Bishop Brown admits to himself and to OC Catholics that he made a mistake in trusting his legal advisors, the sooner children will be safe while under the supervision of Catholic schools and churches.

As soon as Bishop Brown admits that each and every one of the employees in the Diocese of Orange fear that if they dare to speak out to protect a child, the evil legal advisors, Callahan, Rutherford, Porter, Ballog, Sullivan, Schinderle, Peffer and possibly the Aitkens, will find "performance" issues and illegal employment contracts to terminate employees who speak out to protect others. The patterns of abuse are readily available in OC public records alone.

Will there be a day for true justice as it relates to the attorneys who have ENABLED the horrific clergy sex abuse crisis throughout the world? The power of prayer and the courage of clergy sex abuse victims will continue in full force. ALL children cannot protect themselves and need us to protect them. Why didn't the Bishops' attorneys fail him?

Russ Bianchi says:

For daily vetted global coverage of the massively ongoing criminal conduct of less than 3,500 red hat and miter enablers, still adiing and abetting MANY HUNDREDS of child molesters still in active ministries and/or hiding them, to avoid the perverts from testifying against the premediative ENABLING, in the Roman Catholic Church, at the total expense in the multi billions upon billions or dollars, with no end in sight, of 1.1 billion laity, we recommend:

www.bishop-accountability.org/abusetracker

Until the my fellow laity stop donating to rid the Church of these unaccountable criminals, pretending to have moral authority, nothing will change.

These EVIL BISHOPS, ARCHBISHOPS & CARDINALS each need to be immediately removed from office, canonically censored, and placed under LIFE house arrest, just like pedophile founder of the Legionnaires of Christ, Marciel was, in a preferrably cold, remote, dark, hard labor, and bad food monastery, OR swiftly defrocked, and EXCOMMUNICATED!

Among those miter/red hat names that this is the minimum punishment, are: BROWN, BROM, MAHONY, WEIGLAND (JUST REPLACED BY GAY SOTO), CURRY, BARNES, STEINBOCK, RIVERA, GEORGE, EGAN, MACCARRICK, MCCORMACK, SKYLAND, PILLA, CHAPUT, LAW, O'MALLEY, to name only a few...

No Bishop Accountability? No Laity Monies!

STOP DONATING FOR CHRIST'S SAKE! WAKE UP!

Russ Bianchi says:

Hey Debby:

Brown KNEW exactly was he was doing, and is indeed 100% responsible for the result, not the legal hacks he hired, with 100% of all bills still being paid by laity.

Brown ENABLED & CONTINUES TO ENABLE, the rape, sexual assault, physical maiming, mental torture, child deliquency, oral copulation, kidnapping, extortion, perjury, suiciding, murder, harboring fugitives from justice, obstruction of justice, and sodomy, of hundreds upon hundreds of children, in the Diocese of Orange, over many years, and Brown thought he could cover it up.

Brown, like the rest of his fellow enablers (Mahony, Brom, Barnes, Curry, Weigland, Steinbock, Walsh, Rivera, George, Law, O'Malley, McCarrick, MacCormack, Pilla, Egan, Chaput, etc.) to name only a few, need to be removed from offce, canonically each censored, and all placed for LIFE under house arrest, like pedophile founder and enabler Marciel, of the Legionnaires of Christ, in a remote, dark, cold, hard labor and bad food monastery, OR swiftly and irrevocably defrocked and EXCOMMUNICATED.

For daily vetted global coverage on the ongoing and growing criminal conduct of the Roman Catholic Church Curia, we recommend:

No Bishop Accountability? No Laity Monies!
