Keeper of St. Norbert Church Pedo-Priests Now Accused of Boy Rape Himself

What is it about the pastors of St. Norbert Church in Orange and their predilection for protecting pedo-priests? The most recent example was Cirilo Flores, who is now an auxiliary bishop under Diocese of Orange Bishop Tod D. Brown; the most notorious example was John Urell, who famously cracked during a deposition digging into his days as the man in charge of "investigating" the pedophiles who terrorized county parishes for decades. I guess they just learned from their elders; after all, longtime St. Norbert pastor Sinon Falvey was in charge of two pedo-priests during his tenure from 1969 to 1989: John Kenney and John Lenihan. God smote the first John in a 1977 car accident; with Lenihan, Falvey moved him along to my home parish of St. Boniface in Anaheim.

Now, Falvey is the target of a civil lawsuit filed June 25 in Orange County Superior Court. It alleges Falvey repeatedly molested an altar boy in 1990, after he had retired, and that church officials were negligent in preventing it. Falvey won't be able to attend any depositions given his current disposition--dead. But we'll see what Brownie and his boys will do to counter this...

Gustavo isn't a journalist, He's a partisan. Accusations of priestly misconduct are always portrayed as true and priests are always portrayed as guilty, regardless of the actual facts.

Dead people make convenient targets, because they are unable to respond to their accusers. So Msgr. Falvey is a perfect target for Gustavo: someone who can't respond.

Was Fr. Kenney guilty of molestation? We don't know because he was killed in a car accident, but that doesn't stop Gustavo from pronouncing him guilty (and claiming his death was divine punishment), and then implicating Falvey as supervising someone he knew to be a pedophile.

Did Falvey know about Lenihan? If Gustavo knew that to be a fact, he would have said so, rather than slyly implying it. Gustavo is less interested in the truth than in skewering priests and the Catholic Church.

Gustavo Arellano says:

Anon: You're funny. Church documents showed Kenney was a molester who was moved around locally (he was at St. Cecelia in Tustin before St. Norbert, and bounced around in other Archdiocese of Los Angeles parishes before the creation of the Orange diocese) and was shipped off to an Indian parish in the Diocese of Baker, Oregon, for his pedophilic tendencies. Lenihan admitted to his superiors about molesting Mary Grant AND Lori Haigh while at St. Norbert—you can look it up. Sorry if you thought I was being sly in showing Falvey's role with the two; I thought I was blatantly obvious.

I have a lot of information about Falvey.. I remember him very well. I know stuff.. Lots of stuff in fact. I would come forward but I would probably get sued again. I was told back in 2002 that because he had passed away there was no point in mentioning anything. You can call people out on their shit but it dosen't mean anything will ever happen to ever make things right...

Dead men tell no tales says:

Well hell, I was an altar boy at St. Norbert's back in the mid-late 80s. Maybe I should sue a dead guy and hope the deep pocketed (though not as deep as before) Diocese will simply settle for nuisance value.

I was baptized by Msgr. Falvey, as was my brother, father, niece and nephew. Msgr. Favely was a frequent dinner guest at our home. Never once did he even remotely give cause for concern. It is almost distgusting to me that I would have to put that sort of a caveat in the same paragraph as a reference to him.

I am, to this day, horified and angered that the Church I grew up in (meaningn the RC Church as a whole, not one parish) would harm the innocent and cover up those who did. And I hope there is a special place in Hell for those who committed such acts. However, I personally find it hard to beleive these accusation against Msgr. Falvey and I am somewhat surprised at the delay in bringing them - it certainly raises suspicion as to the accuser's motives.

While it is appropriate to report on the newsworthiness of this topic, Gustavo's "reporting" isn't so much journalism as opinion and hyperbole. Once more facts come out (and not merely allegations in a complaint), I think a reputable news reporter should follow this disspationately.

pass the rolls.. says:

You had dinner with him!! If the gravy boat fits, you must acquit! Basically you are saying if you didn't get screwed, then no one did? The fact you mention your whole family and their involvement with the parish basically removes you as a possible victim. Perps don't usually shit where they eat. They like the kids who don't have solid family units, because they are less likely to be believed if it ever comes down to it. Sounds like you weren't alienated enough to get it up the ass. Fathers, cousins, brothers, sisters oh my.. that's way too many people involved to take a chance on you squealing.

You are exactly right, what we need here is a bit more dispassion. All this passion to victim's pleas for justice in their lives is getting tiresome. Can't these so called victims just go away? I have a happy illusion to live in, so don't ruin it for me ok.

Dead men tell no tales says:

Victim: Where did I use the word "ass"? I think it was PRT that used that word.

The points in my initial post were respectfully made and have not been rebutted nor has the vitriol of PTRs post even raised a logical argument to the contrary.

The fact that Gustavo may be a "hero" has nothing to do with being a reporter. Reporters write facts, editors write opinion and heroes generally have statues made in their honor. With respect to the later that usually requires that they die for a cause. I am not aware of any statues of reporters, or editors for that matter.

Your opinion of Falvey, on the other hand, is irrelevant. My good friend was an altar boy for Eleuterio Ramos in the 1970s. He was a good family friend and frequently had dinners at their house. Didn't touch my friend, never gave any hint he was the worst pedophile in Orange County history.

It would appear Anonymous, Dead Men Tell No Tales, Pass The Rolls, and other defenders of this proven pedophile cult, like to drink the Roman Pedo Curia "La Cosa Nostra" Kool-Aid (wonder if Matt "Jubal" Cunningham is back among us commentators?)....

There are over 120+ recently published empirical books on the subject, of the Tod Brown, Roger Mahony, Francis George, Bernards Law, Sean O'Malley, Edward Egan, Noberto Rivera, Angelo Re, Tarscio Bertone, William Leveda, Wilton Gregory, Robert Brom, Gerald Barnes, George Pell, Claudio Hummes, Joseph Ratzinger, many decades of pedo crime sprees, at www.amazon.com, and FREE at your local public library.

Among these sane & cogent authers are: RC Bishop Jeffery Robinson of Australia; RC Bishop Thomas Gumbleton of the USA; Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini of Milan Italy in the Summer 2008 Edition of the UK's prestigious THE TABLET, Phillip Lawler; Dr. Rober Grant, MD; Fr/Dr. Howard Bleichner, SS, Fr. Richard Sipe, Attorney & Legal Scholar Marci Hamilton; David Yallop; Jason Berry; Dr. Leon Podles; Fr/Dr/Canon Lawyer Thomas Doyle, OP, to name only a few.

The evidence is OVERWHELMING as to clear curia culpability, and guilt to this very day, in the THE RYAN REPORT, TH JJ CRIMINAL JUSTICE REPORT & THE PHILADEPHIA CRIMINAL GRAND JURY REPORT, all free at www.bishop-accountability.org

To date, the most conservative estimates place at least 140,000 children as sexually assaulted, sodomized, orally copulated, physically maimed, mentally torture, endangered, kidnapped, murdered, extorted, and raped, with the full and known consent of the USCCB (Unremoved Sexual Criminal Cabal Bishops) in aid & abetting, enabling, and even perpetration, themselves (an still no removal of the MAIN cause the guilty red hats and miters).

The Roman Catholic Church is a clear & present danger criminal enterprise, that demands masssive Federal RICO prosecution in the USA, thwarting their lawyering-up (costing laity to date at least $4.5 Billion tax free documented offetory plate dollars with no end in sight).

Films to watch on DVD include: GOYA'S GHOSTS, VOWS OF SILENCE, & DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

Just today, 7/1/09 the Boston Archdiuocese, who could not explain over $100 million dollars in stolen funds from the secular priests' pension fund, trotted out a white wash report saying "no missing funds" ever happened? REALLY?! LIKE WOW!...there is over $48.6 million Bernard Law personally stole through reported embezzlements and slush fund transfers, for his luxury retirement in Rome, via cooked books in Worcester, Milford, Back Bay, Boston, Wood's Hole, Sommerville, Cambridge, etc.

Any lay member donating even a single penny to this criminal enterprise is a criminal themselves....HELL, OR NO HELL, forthcoming.

PS - The conservative estimate by all experts on the subject (inculding Church apologists) of 140,000 raped & sodomized children by Roman Catholic curia & clergy, is only in the USA, and in the past 35 years...it's MILLIONS OF CHILDREN globally...with only cover up and no correction at laity total cost.

Dead men tell no tales says:

Sorry to be somewhat disspationate about all this. My issue is the way Gustavo "reports", which isn't really so much reporting as opinion cloaked in the guise of reporting (to the same extent that Fox News is "fair and balanced").

If anyone actually read my initial post, I was NOT defending the actions of those sick men who tarnished themselves and the Church and in the process ruined the lives of many - both victims and believers who put their trust in the Church. My point was that a lawsuit filed against a dead man raises certain problems of proof that easily could have been raised during the life of the accused. Further, it isn't inobjective to suggest that there may be motives in a cash payout in these circumstances from the formely deep pockets of the Church.

How any of those points could be interpreted as "protecting" pedofiles is beyond me and if that is what was gleaned from the initial post, then I suggest those who disagree take a reading comprehension class.

As to Gustavo's reply, I would suggest that Samuel Clemens has a statue not by virtue of being a reporter but by virtue of being an author. You did indeed use significant hyperbole ("God smote . . . ") and you indeed provided your opinion under the guise of reporting ("I guess they just learned from their elders", use of "investigating" in quotes and use of the tainted term predeliction). I am pretty sure that none of those statements would constitute real reporting. Which goes to the point of the matter - this significant matter does need reporting, not an opinion piece.

Unfortunately, in today's climate where anyone can claim and be recognized as a "reporter" simply by virtue of being published, there is a general dumbing down of the profession when those who espouse opinion take the guise of a reporter.

Albino: Actually, Pass the Rolls was being sarcastic; he's very much on the side of the victims!

Deadmen: Don't start parsing. You said there were no statues of reporters; Mark Twain was one. Done. Also, you didn't take issue with the facts in the case that I repeated to you, so any objection you have to the way I wrote the story is an issue of style, not substance.

Gustavo -

You are starting to sound like Clinton: "it depends on what the meaning of the word "is" is." Reporting and opinion are not the same thing and you seem well versed, like Fox News, on trying to weave both together. The problem is that reporter ethics clearly don't sanction this type of conduct: http://www.spj.org/ethicscode.asp.

I will concede your point on Clemens, though you should recognize that the purpose of the statutes have nothing to do with his being a reporter. Ronald Reagan was an actor. He too has many statues, but I don't suspect that they were constructed because of "Bedtime for Bonzo."

Sarcasm is lost on many people, in some cases more than others, because they may be missing part of a complex set of cognitive skills based in specific parts of the brain. Complex thinking is required to understand sarcasm. "To detect sarcasm and to better understand what people mean when they talk, we must have empathy," said researcher Simone Shamay-Tsoory of the University of Haifa and lead author of the study.

"MUST HAVE EMPATHY"!!!!!

Doesn't surprised me a bit the Catholic priest pedophile predator defenders don't get it... not a bit.

It's just a level of low intelligence and ability to think for themselves. That may be a huge problem with religion, it attracts those kind of people and then abuses their children because it's so easy. The poor children of these people don't have chance.

I'm starting to think that Dead Men Tell No Tales is secretly in love with Gustavo. Just like little boys in kindergarten who pull the pigtails of the girls they like and call them names. It is a juvenile form of interaction.

If you don't like Gustavo's writing style, why do you continue to read his blogs? I dont like Fox news, so I don't watch it. I don't like Nancy Grace so I don't watch her. Would it really be worth my time to constantly phone in to Bill O'Riely or Nancy Grace just to tell them I don't like their style of reporting? Totally ridiculous.

Gustavo may I suggest just ignoring him? His level of debate is way beneath you. It's entertaining to a degree, but also a tiny bit pathetic. I have a feeling its John Neeley anyway. Apparently you don't comprehend very well since my initial post was rather clear. Further, my initial post wasn't originally intended to be offensive but rather thought provoking, yet it was met with profane invective. The response for the article's author was similary dismissive.

At this point, I guess I should be dismissive of all of this: Obviously a free paper doesn't have a subscriber base but rather an advertising base to cater to. In that regard, the OCW is just the sort of pubcliation that tatoo and escort services can support but a paid readership cannot.

Since my initial sincere attempt to raise some important points isn't apparently what is wanted here, I will just let you all have your fun and enjoy your irrelevance.

I was simply there to offer support.

everything is Gustavo's fault says:

The OC Register got it wrong and it's all Gustavo's fault.

I also blame Gustavo for the fact that Fox news labeled disgraced Republican Mark Stanford a Democrat!

http://crooksandliars.com/logan-murphy/shocking-fox-news-labels-disgraced-re

I am starting to wonder what Gustavo's roll was in Michael Jackson's death. Fess up man!

Danielle says:

I was NOT implying that the OC Register getting the facts wrong was Gustavo fault in ANYWAY.

I was just saying the what Anon said this morning is what that person thought to be true because they read it and Gustavo called it BS(that there was no article and there was.) It says what the person thought to be correct right under the picture on the right.

You sir or lady need to relax.

everything is Gustavo's fault says:

Danielle, I didn't say that you said that Anon said that Gustavo said that it was true ANYWAY.

I said that I thought it was Gustavo's fault. Now is recess over? You need to get back to third grade circle group.

Why are you saying what the person thought to be true because they read it has anything to do with what was INCORRECT right under the picture on the right.

I'm pretty sure I am relaxed, except for all the giggling I am doing at your ridiculous post. Good thing "Anon" has you in their anonymous corner or else we would have never figured this mystery out!

Gustavo, in the future please read EVERYTHING in every newspaper including captions before posting or commenting.. apparently the fact that you factually know the facts is bothering the lower grades at this elementary school comment section. Danielle, I LOVE IT when you use your CAPS!!

I personally think Gustavo's mistake was assuming the OCREGISTER had accurately reported the facts like the good reporters that they ARE.

Oh and I am rubber you are glue what you say bounces off me and sticks to YOU.

John neelis says:

I see you guys are still at it. A lawsuit has been filed. The defendant is dead. There has been no pre-trial hearing and no jury conviction as of yet. St Gustavo and his band of RCC haters have already tried and convicted a dead man.
I am interested in justice out of all of this first.
Apparently alot of your readers do not. They resemble the Mass. witch hunters. Do anyone of you believe in the justice system. Apparently everyone who belongs to the Catholic Church is a willing participant in crimes against children.
Well I'm not and I do not. Its not what the Catholic Church teaches, and its not what it stands for.
If you believe in justice and the American way of life, you will let justice take its course.
Many of you have already made up your minds. Thats too bad. No one really knows the facts in this case. That means "who is really brainwashed here?"
Guilty because he is a Roman Catholic Priest. Thats enough by itself. Forget facts and other issues. You all should be assamed of yourselves.

Gustavo Arellano says:

John: I thought you were never going to comment again! I only stated the facts—care to disprove me? And your bit about us hating the faith is tiresome already. John: meet bald-faced cliché.

Allegation vs John Neelis says:

John, John, John... no one has made up their minds, our conversation has been about Gustavo's writing style and the OC Register's inability to report the facts. And as long as Lenihan and the other perp's are free to walk this earth freely, no I won't believe there is justice. I think that is the point. The Bishop and his cronies have skirted justice for a very long time. They have hid their offending priests from justice.

There is an ALLEGATION against Falvey. Gustavo covered the ALLEGATION. He let us know there is another ALLEGATION and unfortunately the truth is that no one is all that surprised. An allegation is an assertion waiting for due process to be proved.. duh.

The fact is there is an allegation. What part of the subject title of this blog post don't you understand?

Oh and nice of you to finally chime in with your mindless rhetoric.

John Neelis says:

I attend St. Norberts, so the article caught my attention. As far as mindless, I could run rings around you moron.
The article represents more than an allegation. It is a deliberate Smear on the Catholic Church. Oh, its skirted wit h some facts, but its true intent is rather obvious.
Being around people as those who have written statements above is simply distasteful to me.
I watch names and statements being thrown back and forth.
Say what you will. Eventually the problem will correct itself.
The Catholic Church will go on with or without you.

Anyone who dissagrees with St. Gustavo will have his cronies on you as...
I hope that your cronies build a statue of you in the park so the birds can crap on it regularly. You have to be good for something. It certainly isn't writing. Why don't you apply for one of those massage or escort services your paper advertises for.

Gustavo Arellano says:

Disprove my report, John, or keep making yourself look like the fool you are!

Proof! says:

Dead men dont tell tales IS John Neelis. Both are fixated on the escort service ads. You don't need an escort service John, you attend St. Norberts.

John Neelis says:

I am my own person. I don't need an alias to hide my identity.
I don't say that Gustavo doesn't tell the truth. I am simply saying that if he is going to report something, he should stick to facts. As he reports, he broadens his attacks to implicate everyone. This is not justice, this is sensationalizing facts and making it sound like a churchwide conspiracy. This is nothing more than "trial by media".
Granted, the church still has alot to answer for and I hope they do. It needs to be cleaned out. I don't think the innocent should be punished with the guilty. I believe in justice for all.

Funny how Dead Men claims he's "dispassionate" yet reminisces about a boy rapist so fondly. "It is almost distgusting to me that I would have to put that sort of a caveat in the same paragraph as a reference to him." Give it a break, crybaby.

joelle Casteix says:

Simply because an "alleged" abuser like Falvey is dead does not mean that the ample proof that he hurt kids simply disappears.

The civil suit allows the victim to gain access to the secret personnel files, which, 99.99999% of the time, outline other allegations, admissions, treatments, transfers, cover-ups, meetings with the bishop and victim intimidation.

And again, we have to remember that these civil suits expose the men and women who COVERED UP for these guys, and still continue to do so. If they are exposed, this victim can have a little bit of reassurance that what happened to him never happens to another kid.

Plus, it's funny how when the abuser is dead, the diocese is more than happy to expose the entire file. It's the live ones who get all of the protection.

We can't get Falvey arrested, because he's dead. But we can use the civil process to expose and punish people who didn't care if Falvey hurt kids.

If Falvey didn't hurt the victm, then we'll find that out too. If there is no proof, the case gets thrown out. Judges don't want to waste their time.

There is a reason that you never hear of these cases being thrown out ~ it's because they have merit.
