Holy COW! I am sure I'll be blamed for it (and I wish I could take credit), but cheers and kudos to the person/people who got this information out there!
Because, of course, the diocese certainly wouldn't let anyone make a statement about Urell's past during mass ...
And they - and Urell's supporters - will never admit that what Urell did was evil.
Urell supporters will tell you that "this was in the past," and it is time to move on and forgive. But there is a problem: Urell has never given any indication that he will not continue to cover up sex abuse, harass and alienate brave survivors, and enable child sex crimes.
Forgive him all you want, but don't trust him. Don't trust him a bit.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 8:14AM!!!BRILLIANT!!!
Is it too much to ask these informative inserts become standard weekly, even monthly, additions?
Yeah, it is. But what a delicious thought.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 9:22AMAbuse children themselves become abusers. I guess you have made my point for me. The leader of the abusers now? St Gustavo and his band of grown up children.
You have made your intent and your motives quite clear Gustavo.
Why don't you start your own hitler youth organization? You've already got your troops riled up!! Hate is a powerful emotion. It interferes with clear thinking and of course free will. Keep them wasting their lives on hate. When the time comes to meet their maker they can explain to him all the good they did in the world with pranks like this.
DAMN!!! I wanted to be the creative genius with the passion to reach out to unsuspecting Catholics, with hope that children will be protected in the future... CONGRATS to whoever you are!
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 9:24AMAnd who, pray tell John, are sex-abuse survivors abusing? Those poor, poor priests who condoned and cover up child molesters? You're one sick apologist to suggest that those who were sodomized—or worse—as children by priests have now become abusers. With thoughts like that, the closest you'll come to the Pearly Gates is driving past the TBN complex off the 405 Freeway.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 9:35AM"Urell has never given any indication that he will not continue to cover up sex abuse..."
Whaaa...? Says who, Joelle? Did Urell say that to you?
I'm sorry for what happened to you, but you show angry, unChristian behavior. You don't want anyone to forgive, let alone forget.
Same goes for whoever distributed that flyer. Gustavo's always attacking people who don't attach their names to their attacks as cowards (at least, when they don't agree with him he does) but he makes this coward out to be some kind of hero.
We should all be so perfect as you two.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 9:49AMAgain, John Neelis focuses his attack on Gustavo who basically only informed us of an incident which actually happened over the weekend. John, you spend an awful lot of time on this blog. You must check it every hour of everyday. Abused children become abusers? I can't believe you would go there. That is sick. So you are admitting you acknowledge the abuse has gone on, and that there are a bunch of pissed off people who feel justice hasn't been served yet and Gustavo is representing their interests? I though you wanted justice to prevail. Equating adult survivors of molestation to Hitler youth is an abomination. Do you realize you are representing the worst of the worst as far as Catholics go. You are presenting for all the world to see how ignorant you are as well as becoming the poster child for Catholics who will protect their molesting priest at all costs.
You obviously don't have a job because you monitor Gustavo's blog all day and night. You don't realize what a fool your statements are making you look like. I bet Bishop Brown is wishing you would just shut up now. You are doing nothing for your congregation except show how imbecilic the thought process is.
Keep going John, you are only helping Gustavo get his point across loud and clear. Open your mouth, and insert our foot.
Please enlighten us on your feelings regarding Urell, which this post is actually about and not about the messenger who posted it. I am dying to know what you think about the role Urell played in all of this.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 9:52AMI don't write stories about pranks, nor would I get much pleasure from it. It seems you get alot of pleasure from destroying reputations at will. Its too bad you couldn't use your poison pen for some other reason.
You think your some kind of champion? Your simply and catalist in all this. You talk about me be sick? I am not the one egging on people, stuck in this kind of thinking.
There seems to be an instigator in every crowd. Your time will come. I would not mind helping it a bit.
Wow John. That last sentence sounds like a threat. Seriously you are one fucked up individual. All your talk about Hitler youth and my time coming and you helping out. What would Jesus think?
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 10:05AMI think that Jesus would like us all to live our lives with the best of intentions and actions. I don't think what was done by someone at St. Timothys was done with either.
You can call me what ever you wish. I simply consider the source in order to establish the weight it should carry.
I do believe in justice for all. Tell me, is this justice? Is this how we are to conduct ourselves?
If that is the case, you all might be in a hell of alot of trouble.
You talked about harrasment and alianation. What do you think you guys are doing. You are just creating a bigger barrier.
You want to heal? How do you plan on doing that by carry on this way?
My opinions are my own. You all make it very hard to listen to your side when you perform stunts like the one posted above.
Justice has not been served regarding John Urell.
Anything that can bring Urell closer to finally face the justice he deserves is a step in the right direction. It came close once, but Urell couldn't face it. His own guilty conscious got to him first. It's amazing to me that in the wake of his deposition breakdown action wasn't immediately taken by the authorities to get to the bottom of his involvement. He was just whisked away only to return once the heat was off him.
Justice and John Urell have yet to be introduced to each other.
There will be no peace for him or his victims until that day comes.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 10:51AMJohn: Whose reputation is destroyed? That of a man who did it himself covering up the rapes of innocents? And, when you say, "Your time will come. I would not mind helping it a bit," are you threatening me?
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 11:24AMIn the end, when we are judged for our thoughts, words and actions, both sides will be deemed wrong. Who cares who will win. You will all lose. The only difference is degree. The best thing I can tell you is to get on with your lives and live in the best traditions of a christian. Jesus would have wanted that.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 11:28AMYou didn't answer my question. Put up, or shut up.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 11:33AMThat absolutely appears to be a threat Gustavo, and not something to be taken lightly. This guy sounds unbalanced and I would be concerned for your safety at this point with the amount of anger he apparently has for you. If he goes any further I would suggest filing a restraining order just to be on the safe side.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 11:33AMJohn Neelis, Once upon a time there was such a person who started a Nation Socialist Group; only it was patterened after the Roman Catholic Church's Organization and Leadership techniques; And didn't Adolf Hitler Do A Wonderful Job? In fact all the high NAZI Party officials came from, "Devout" Catholic Families. And now LOOK who sits on the Throne of Peter.....A Man Who Has Had The Words, "HEIL HITLER" On His Lips.
Gustavo is neither a Nationalist Socialist, nor a Bundist. He is a man who has seen the Suffering of Innocent People and wants to do something about it. If there had been TRUE Spirituality and Truth among the Clergy and Hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church, then there would be no Raped and Sodomized Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults; and Gustavo would nothing to write about on this subject.
John you must face the fact that almost every Major Superior, Bishop, Archbishop, Cardinal and (esecially) the Pope, have blood on their hands, because they knew of and allowed the Innocent of Our Church to be RAPED & SODOMIZED (And Worse) by Perverted Priests, Brothers, Deacons, Nuns and (Yes) Even Some Bishops. These men rode to their Present Positions of Weath and Power over the Bloodied and Tortured Bodies of the Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults of OUR Roman Catholic Church. If the "Stogneer Bill" had not been overturned, then some of the "Sitting Bishops of California", Along With Their Sexually Predatory and Pedophile Priests, Brothers, Deacons and Nuns, Would Be Wearing Orange Jump Suits and SITTING In Prison Today. For now these Criminals have escaped Earthy Justice; but the Supreme Justice, the ONE Who Will Someday Judge Us All, Will NOT Let Them Get Away. And For HIS Punishment, Those Perverts And Their Enablers Should Be VERY Afraid.
William is wrong. I don't hate anyone. Not even you Gustavo. I am just tired of the pounding the RCC takes. I would really like to know what some of these victims learned in religion class.
No priest or any one else for that matter would have gotten that far with me.
I have not taken sides with any priest durring my statements, yet I have been called all kind of names because I have an opinion.
I am neither impressed by power or money. I am impressed by truth and honesty. I hope the church does get purged of evil do'ers. It needs to be. This is not the way. The wheels of justice sometimes move slowly. If they are to move at all, the people involved must make them move. Not in the press, but in the courtroom.
You haven't answered my question, John. Until you do, your future comments WILL get deleted.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 12:22PMJohn.... if you are truly interested in seeking the truths, you might want to meet with one of the survivors of heinous sex crimes committed by a Catholic priest... looking them straight in the eyes. Then, you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you deem fit... about cover ups, defamation, pastoral privilege and how other Catholics have isolated and reacted to their personal choice to speak out and seek justice.
John, it really is not that difficult to seek your own answers... the only difficulty you will find is when Church leaders or their attorneys find out you are intelligent and passionate enough to research the truths about the sex crimes that destroyed the innocence of so many children.
To answer your question my furor. The people that respond to your articles are very abusive in their statements. They spend alot of time making statements and allegations that may or may not be true. In any case the air getsuglier and uglier.
The article above is a prime example. The people above cheer you on and make abusive comments of their own. Thats not abusive? Someone went out and deliberately planted those fliers. Thats not abusive? Someone said they wished they did.
Thats not abusive? Someone wrote an article about it, so as to further smear a Catholic priest reputation. Thats not abusive? I hope that answers your question.
As far as me answering your question or else. I don't answer to you. I If you wish to silence me (censorship) that is your choice. After all, all you want to hear is your cheerleader squad anyway.
I think its time to talk to your sponsors.
Victoria is right that blame for a long-festering scandal must go to those who run an organization, including in this case about 2/3 of the American bishops and all the popes beginning at least with Paul VI. Gustavo has been stellar in documenting the culpability of Orange County's bishops. But, of course, the bishops don't appoint themselves.
What's needed is a Vatican Council III -- or, better yet, a Council of Trent II -- to clean up the messes of the last 50 years and return the Church to decency and orthodoxy.
However...
Victoria unfortunately mostly uses what's called the "reductio ad Hitlerum." (See the Wikipedia entry.) Basically, if you want to shut down debate, bring up Schickelgruber.
It's also not relevant to bring up the Pope's youth. He was 5 when the Nazis seized total power. After the Catholic youth groups were dissolved, he was forced into the Hitlerjugend at 14. According to Wikipedia, "His father was a bitter enemy of Nazism, believing it conflicted with the Catholic faith, according to biographer John L. Allen, Jr. In 1941, one of Ratzinger's cousins, a 14-year-old boy with Down syndrome, was taken away by the Nazi regime to a care center and killed there in secrecy during the Aktion T4 euthanasia campaign of Nazi eugenics. In 1943 while still in seminary, he was drafted at age 16 into the German anti-aircraft corps. Ratzinger then trained in the German infantry, but a subsequent illness precluded him from the usual rigours of military duty. As the Allied front drew closer to his post in 1945, he deserted back to his family's home in Traunstein after his unit had ceased to exist, just as American troops established their headquarters in the Ratzinger household."
She also is wrong that, "In fact all the high NAZI Party officials came from, 'Devout' Catholic Families." Hitler, Goebbels, Heydrich, and Himmler came from Catholic families, although how "devout" they were is hard to say, especially as German and Austrian society were rapidly secularizing. But Hess, Bormann, Speer, and Eichmann were from Protestant families. Goering's family was both Protestant and Catholic.
And how can Catholics be blamed because Goebbels attended Germany's secularized universities, studied anti-Christian philosophies, especially that of Nietzsche, became a Nazi, committed immense crimes including the Holocaust, and in the end even murdered his wife and six young children, then committed suicide? He seems to have made a special effort to perpetrate the *opposite* of everything he learned in his lost Catholic youth.
It's also wrong to say Hitler modeled his movement on the Catholic Church, when he modeled it on Italian fascism, which was founded by an atheist socialist journalist, Mussolini.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 12:50PMBye, bye, John. You threatened me and can't owe up to it. Dissenting comments are more than welcome here (look at you), but not physical threats, and ESPECIALLY not cowards as yourself. Don't bother leaving comments anymore—they WILL be deleted. It's not censorship; it's you not being a man.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 12:52PMJohn,
I dont understand all your references to Hitler or calling Gustavo "my furor". I don't understand you calling the children who were abused "adult abusers". I don't understand your question about what did the victims learn in religion class. I don't understand your feelings about what Urell did and got away with. All you do is attack Gustavo or anyone else for that matter.
I don't understand you at all. I don't understand any single point you have ever tried to make. I don't understand why you are constantly on this blog. My family and I are good Catholics but you definitely don't represent my feelings or anyone else's I know. In fact, you are an embarrassment. You are doing more harm than good but you don't see it.
If you don't appreciate Gustavo's approach or find him offensive then don't read his blogs. You must have awakened this morning, turned on your computer and bee lined straight to Gustavo. Why? I don't even see anyone else in your corner.
You seem like a very ignorant person and an embarrassment to St. Norbert's Parish. I haven't see one person ever say "I agree with John" and I have looked back through all your posts.
If you really feel the way you do about justice and cleaning out the church, you should be first in line to make Urell accountable for his actions. Why aren't you? Why wont you tell us? In fact with all your justice wanting, it should have been YOU who posted those flyers all over. Now that would have made much more sense.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 1:03PMJohn, I am A Survivor of Clergy Sexual Victimization; and there are many of us who will be glad to come to your parish, to a meeting place, or even to your home, to speak with you and any number of people you care to invite. Such events are called, "Listening Sessions" John, and they are intended to educate Catholics (along with anyone else interested in protecting children from all forms of abuse) about these terrible crimes against children and young people.
The pope went beyond age 5 into the adulthood as a NAZI. There is a well documented photograph of him in full vestments giving the NAZI Salute.
On into the Hierarchial Power, as Prefect For the Congrdgation of the Doctrine of Faith, Ratzinger had it within his power to STOP the sexual victimization of the children and young people of our church; instead, he continued the cover up.
Victims are not trying to bring down the Church, John. The Clergy and Hierarchy are doing it all on their own. But if the BRAVE VICTIMS had not spoken out; if DEDICATED Reporters such as Gustavo had not kept these stories of Sexual, Perverse Sacrilege against GOD's Children Alive in the minds of the
Public, Law Enforcement and Courts, then Children and Young People would still be getting raped in sacristies, pews, school rooms, rectories, parked cars and choir lofts, all over this country, all around the world.
OH, GOD HELP YOU, JOHN, That One Day You Will See. GOD Bless You And All Who Are Lost In This Lie Perpetrated By The Roman Catholic Church.
But Most Especially, GOD Bless Our Dear Gustavo.
Unless personally know John Urell or the victim's, you really don't have a leg to stand on. I know him personally and I can tell you he is just like Judas the apostle.
Try reading some of the garbage that happens to the kids and see if it doesn't make you sick to your stomach. Unless you have facts or are involved or have been involved with a related incident you really cant say much.
Read Urell's deposition and you can see how he is protecting the pedophiles. I've personally spent days reading through his testimony and all his article's.
Take a psychology class or two and you will learn that people who do good (a select few), do good because they do bad things to others. Doing good is a way for them to feel better about the bad things they do. Its sort of a self-inflicted penance.
Bottom line- this needs to stop and John Urell is the key to unlocking this all. The question is, will he or can he? How and why is he protecting people? Protecting these sexual deviants does more harm than good and just makes him look bad.
You have to remember that this goes up to as high as Cardinal Mahoney. Yes I knew him too. How? I was an altar boy for a while and served for over 9 years as one. I've had direct involvement with several of these Church officials. I never had any problems with them but thats like saying that no one voted for George W. Bush the first time or the second time.
We all have demons in our closet that we must confront but the process of healing starts with acknowledging the problem.
If you go to a website or a Church service, you will not find any information on who and where to report any problems about similar crimes. I can tell you this because of direct involvement, Priest can be brutal because there is no one there to police them like Internal Affairs.
If John Urell really wants to help the Church and the victims heal, he would do the right thing. Testify, tell the truth because you are swearing under oath on a BIBLE. Why does John Urell protect, interact and help people like "Big Al" Ramos, Pechariach, Driscoll, Brown and so on?
Do you want your kids or someone you know to be a victim? How would you feel if this happened to you or someone you knew personally?
The power of information is a beautiful thing. We need to empower ourselves so things like this do not happen. Cut straight through the problem and get to the bottom line. How do we solve these issue's that have cost the Catholic Community close to Three Billion dollars?
You have to give Gustavo Arellano credit, the man does his homework! His job is to present facts and inform the public about the things that we try and look the other way to.
Knowledge is power, which gives us the power to do things. The rest is just a smoke screen...
Keep up the Great journalism and great work. Gustavo, you and the people like you are our last line of defense from the injustice we incur.
Thank you!!!!
Why anyone would accept Msgr. Coverup as their parish pastor is beyond me.
You've shown the patience of a saint with John Neelis, Jr., who still hasn't found his spell-check. Thanks for giving him the boot--personal threats shouldn't be tolerated.
Who the Hell is John Neelis? Is he a Jerbalito? He seems totally whack.
Urell is a pig. Kudos to whoever distributed the fliers!
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 2:10PMI have a story about John Urell I would like to share. perhaps Gustavo or others can help me a bit with the names of the priest involved as it has slipped my mind. Back in 2002 I think it was, there was a priest who was accused of punishing his male students by forcing them to wrestle with them in the classroom. During these so called "wrestling" sessions, the priest would grab and fondle the genitalia of the male students.
At St. Edwards, a meeting was held by Maria Shinderlie and John Urell to explain to the parishioners why Fr. Lenihan has been released from the priesthood as well as to explain the current events surrounding the so called "wrestling priest".
The way Urell put is was like this..
The diocese was taking action against an allegation of a priest "touching" some students. Although he assured the congregation that there had been no skin on skin contact. He mentioned that many times. Now the important part of his protecting the priest is this.
When Urell mentioned the touching, he put his hands to his upper body, his shoulders. In fact, every time he said the word "touched" he touched his shoulder or upper arm. He led the people to believe that was the part of the body that was being touched. Never once did he actually mention nor infer that these boys were grabbed between their legs, skin to skin contact or not.
Of course the congregation was fuming that the diocese wouldn't fight such an obviously innocent form of contact, but Urell (knowing the actual severity of the contact) told the congregation that they were taking action non the less.
I was shocked that John Urell could mislead the people so much as to make them believe this priest in question was being wrongly punished. It caused an uproar by the people insisting that the priests be more protected by Diocese against such further false allegations.
It's called "grooming". He was making up a story and telling the church goers what he wanted them to belive, not what the truth was. I wanted to stand up and confront him right then and there. I wanted to ask him if he really wanted us to believe they were taking action against a priest for touching kids on the shoulders. But I didn't. I regret I didn't. The hundreds of people sitting there hadn't read the court papers or the complaint so they were not being informed of what really happened in order to come to their own conclusions about whether it was truly inappropriate or not . They blindly trusted what Urell was saying to be the honest facts and were forming their decisions based on what Urell was telling them.
That was the day my opinion of John Urell changed forever. I saw he was in a position of public relations and not one of a follower of Jesus Christ. That was the day I stopped going to church.
Great idea, all responsible laity should expand this, to the pedo priests, monks, nuns, bishops and cardinals in their parishes and cathedrals!!!
If the law will not proescute then, if the courts won't get them, if the politicians won't increase penalties of felonies as well as stature of limitations towards them, if the church won't police thenselves, then it is the MORAL OBLIGATION of each lay member not only to passively resist (alla Ghandi), and not contribute any monies, but OUT all theses criminals, windshield by windshield, and bulletin by bulletin, until the darkness is driven out by the light!
I LOVE THIS IDEA, non violent, non confrontational, truthful, non fraudulent, non liabelious, non litigeous, etc.

What about the Abortion Father Lenihan made one of his victims get. The abortion he (Lenihan) himself paid for. Making him the MURDERER of His Own Child. I am certain Urell didn't offer that bit of important information.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 3:21PMDear Judy,
In fact, the angry congregation brought up the Lenihan situation and demanded to know why the Diocese didn't fight harder on that one either. Maria Shinerlie immediately chimed in on that one stating that in that case, the facts were the facts and they had a confession. She also pointed out that they accepted the settlement offer request due to the fact that it was considered a bargain. She informed the group gathered there that had they chosen to try and fight it, they would have lost and ended up putting another zero or two to the settlement amount and that in fact the parishioners should be happy that the Diocese decided to settle and save the money they would have ended up paying. She said the Lenihan settlement was a no brainer and in the best interests of their own bank account. She was actually shocked the victim had asked for such little compensation given that Fr. Harris victim had just received six times the amount. But then again, he was a boy, and molesting boys is much worse than molesting girls.

Great planning.

Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 3:48PMThank you to the OC Weekly and Gustavo for respecting the intelligence of unsuspecting Catholics. As an attorney, Schinderle had a duty to look each and every St. Edward parishoner in the eyes, with Urell by her side, and tell the truth about the priest grabbing boys' private parts during the same time period Lenihan's sexual predator crimes and funding of an abortion were publicly disclosed. If you do not know the truth by now, the Diocese of Orange is a FRAUD! The attorneys advising the Bishops are CORRUPT! And, the Bishops are too busy enjoying the rich and famous OC Catholics to demand truths and protections of our children--they are a DISGRACE!
No child, adult, employee or family is safe when crossing the path of Diocese of Orange leaders. I still remember Lenihan's first Mass at St. Edward's.... now that I know the truth about him and how he destroyed not one girl but two, maybe three, I am physically ill! Schinderle knew about Lenihan... Urell knew about the penis grabbing priest... and they lied to the faces of persons who trust them.
ARREST THEM ALL..... send our children a message that violations of the law will result in criminal sanctions and/or prison time. No thanks will ever go to the corrupt law enforcement officials in the OC who prefer to play politics versus arresting politically-connected employees supervised by the Diocese of Orange. ARREST THEM ALL..... PLEASE!

Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 6:03PMThe reason the link is not active is so that John Urell's name does not appear on their website thus making him unsearchable or linked to the church in anyway by outsiders.

Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 7:33PMGreat job to whomever the genius is behind this!! It is refreshing to see that the community will not put up with John Urell’s despicable behavior. It is no wonder St. Timothy’s Church dedicated a web page strictly about “Safe Environment for Children and Youth.”
http://www.st-timsrc.org/Safe_Environment.html
Coincidence??? Hmmm……..
I feel sorry for the parishioner who offered information about this, "Covert" Leafletting, but was afraid to give his, or her, name. It's a crying shame when one has to fear one's fellow Catholics. I have known other people who could not have the listening sessions that someone spoke about earlier, on parish property, so instead invited victims to speak in the homes of parishioners. I attended one such meeting and it was wonderful. People listened, cried, laughed, prayed, sang, had good food and good company, and not one lay catholic went away from that meeting angry at the victims; merely hurt at the betrayal they suffered at the hands of their priests and bishops. And don't think these good catholics who, not only hosted these meetings, but also all those who attended, didn't hear about it from their parish priest. (Obviously there was a MOLE among the group who reported back to the priest; maybe even to the cardinal, about what went on, who all was there and what all was said).
Forgive and forget?
If it was only that simple for survivors to forgive, that would have happened years ago. Forget, the same thing, if only we could
It (abuse) happened TO us, and for that fact alone, we and only we have the right to forgive, IF we choose to do so, and if only we able to forget
.
I hate apologists, who say that the abuse wasnt that bad, or whatever stupid excuse they tend to say
Well done for making this public and having a honest, open discussion around these issues
Regards
Steve

If you can donate even a single penny to the Roman Catholic Church, or it's charities (huge skim for the pedo cult) after even reading, or viewing, even a fraction of the above list, you are one very sick soul, and need to seek professional mental help.
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 3 2009 @ 9:56AMThis is John Seiler, not the others named "John" here, which may be causing some confusion.
Victoria wrote: "John, I am A Survivor of Clergy Sexual Victimization; and there are many of us who will be glad to come to your parish, to a meeting place, or even to your home, to speak with you and any number of people you care to invite. Such events are called, 'Listening Sessions' John, and they are intended to educate Catholics (along with anyone else interested in protecting children from all forms of abuse) about these terrible crimes against children and young people."
I am sorry to hear about your suffering and will pray for you.
I know several survivors of clergy abuse and have seen their suffering, although obviously I can't know how deep that suffering is. And I've been reading about such abuses in The Wanderer for 25 years; they reported on it long before the major media did, but few listened because they're orthodox and conservative. And I've read numerous books on the subject, the best being "The Faithful Departed," by Philip Lawler.
And, again, I want to commend Gustavo for his great work.
The real problem has been the Catholic Church's struggle against the evils of the modern age, a struggle she has mostly lost. These evils include the "sexual revolution" of the 1960s (and before), which even invaded the Church and caused the clergy abuse problems. The Church ought to be eternal, not trendy. When it got trendy, the demons of the Gadarene swine rushed in. Now, the swine need to be driven back over the cliff.
As to the Pope supposedly being a Nazi, I don't know why you keep damaging your own arguments with that "reduction ad Hitlerum" (see my earlier post above).
I agreed with you that all the recent popes should have stopped the abuses of children by the clergy. But the question is: What to do now? The answer is: Return to authentic, traditional Catholic teaching and practices. Any changes since about 1950 should be considered suspect and have to be justified.
(Note: I am not a "traditionalist" and attend only Masses approved by my local bishop, Tod Brown. I am just a layman who asks: When an experiment in endless novelties goes badly for 50 years, leading even to assaults on children, why continue it?)
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 3 2009 @ 10:56AMCiao John Seiler:
You are either a lay member in the pew, placing money in the offetory plate, basket, envelopes, or auto transfers, which IS going to continue the legitimization of a massive proven serial, mutiple decade, pedophile aid & abettor, enabler and perpetrator like Tod Brown (or Rog "Mahal" Mahony), or you are not. There is no middle ground here Mr. Seiler.
HOW WILL YOU ANSWER YOU LORD & SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST ON YOUR CLEAR & PRESENT ENDANGERMENT CONDUCT, by giving proven criminals more money?!
FOR SHAME JOHN SEILER!
"The only condition for the triumph of evil is for good men (or women) to do nothing!" as Edmund Burke reminds each of us.
St. Peter Damien remains correct in the assertion (which he was canonized for) to = "STOP DONATING LAITY!"
St. Paul to the Ephesians, 5:11, (and The Church just completed the Pauline Year) notes: "Do not deal in fruitless deeds of darkness, but expose them."
You, John Seiler, are part of the problem, by endorsing overt, pervasive, uncorrected, unremoved, curia criminality, on a global scale!
In the USA alone, in the last 35 years, from experts on all sides, including defenders of the Church, over 140,000 (ultra conservative number) children have been raped, sodomized, orally copulated, physically maimed, mentally tortured, extorted, hard ball litigated, lied to, kidnapped, driven to suicide, murdered, blackmailed, racketeered, obstructed in justice, delinquented, enslaved, brain-washed, or otherwise sexually assaulted.
Of 6,000+ "credibly accussed" priests out of 44,000, just in the USA, the USCCB privately still hides these incurrable deviants criminals, and by most honest accounts, there are at least this many (another 6,000+) still in active ministrties throughtout the USA, with full access to more children to assault.
Returning to "traditional" values solves NOTHING.
The foxes are still in charge of the chicken coop John Seiler!
WAKE (the expletive deleted) UP!
Fiat Lux & Veritas!

MURDERED POPE

Posted On: Friday, Jul. 3 2009 @ 12:12PMDear Mike, I don't think the, "Leaflet Stuffing Event" would ever happen again. Now every Sunday, the Church's Bulletins will be watched over by armed guards.
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 3 2009 @ 12:25PMJohn (Seiler): Gracias for the kind words on my work. I must respectfully disagree with you on the root cause of the scandal, however. Clergy abuse, whether sexual or otherwise, has occurred since the foundation of the Roman Catholic Church. Remember the warnings of St. Peter Damien in The Book of Gomorrah. Solution to the scandal? Simple: report abuse. After all, the worst scandal isn't the abuse but the cover-up and apologias.
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 3 2009 @ 1:27PMlets put things into perspective jason, How many people have thought about putting up flyers and have not followed through with it? What is the mentality behind it? Well lots of things... Traitor, self agenda, Angry at the church, how dare they smear the church's name like that. It could be all of the above or it could be that the person/persons had enough from all the scandals and decided to do research. I can tell you my thoughts of the reason for not putting a name/face to Mr/Mrs. incognito distributors of the flyer. The reason is written on the paper in cap font, information is distributed this way to create on non bias so the people actually go and do research themselves ( I mean who actually believes everything they hear now, if you do then your just hurting yourself, remember we are people not sheeple...) The flyer states "Do your due diligence and confirm these facts! The information is left into the peoples hands to either confirm or not to confirm. "Many people live, fight, and die nameless for what they believe is right, Their name may not live on but the cause for which they die for does!"... Kudos to the people who made the flyer it got me off my ass and had me digging for information to make my own judgement on the matter!

I completely agree with you. And as to St. Peter Damian's "The Book of Gomorrah," which you brought up, a thousand years ago it led to major clerical and moral reforms by St. Leo IX and later popes. In 1823, Pope Leo XII made St. Peter Damian a doctor of the Church for this and other writings.
We need another St. Leo IX to cleanse the Church today. The 2/3 of U.S. bishops who were involved in the cover-ups should have been deposed and sent to monasteries to do penance for the rest of their lives, then replaced with better men.
I'm hoping that the next pope will be a great reformer like Leo IX or St. Pius V, probably not from Europe or America, where everybody seems burned out, but from Africa, Latin America, or the Philippines.
Posted On: Saturday, Jul. 4 2009 @ 8:28AMThe individual(s) distributing the information at St. Timothy's have offered hope to the survivors and their families still trying to understand why the faithful in the pews do not research and seek answers on their own. God bless you whoever you may be! "Reporting Abuse" is not that easy in the Diocese of Orange and/or other institutions who now manage business and employment practices in fear versus protecting those who cannot protect themselves, our children. This is big business nowadays. Attorneys representing religious institutions always get paid.... while those seeking justice are forced to challenge a legal Goliath more powerful than most realize.
In April 2004, I sent a certified letter to Bishop Brown asking for a copy of Diocesan "Whistleblower" policy that would allow individuals an opportunity to report violations of the law committed by employees of the Diocese. Because the Diocese refuses to honor the laws protecting Whistleblowers, employees, children, adults and concerned citizens risk defamation, career ruin and isolation from the only community of faith they have ever know, if they dare speak about and/or report wrongdoing. For these reasons, reporting abuse DOES NOT result in corrective action.... just more cover ups. TO DATE, BISHOP BROWN REFUSES TO RESPOND TO MY LETTERS AND/OR TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTION.
In July 2005, I wrote to Cardinal Levada in San Francisco, who has been transferred to the Vatican to assist Pope Benedict in August 2005, requesting the same information. TO DATE, NO RESPONSE... NO CORRECTIVE ACTION.
In October 2005, I wrote to Bishop Wiegand in Sacramento, requesting the same information sought from Bishop Brown and Cardinal Levada. TO DATE, NO RESPONSE.... NO CORRECTIVE ACTION.
In 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, I have written to state attorney generals, the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, multiple district attorneys, law enforcement officials, Senators, Assembly representatives and other government leaders, searching for answers to why children were sexually abused for decades without government intervention and why there are no policies to protect those who report child endangerment. TO DATE, NO RESPONSE OR CORRECTIVE ACTION.
Is reporting abuse the problem? YES... but whoever reports abuse and/or any type of violation of the law, will suffer career, political and personal suicide. Reporting abuse will not solve the problem.
Why? Because no one will take responsibility for sanctioning those who have failed to protect children, their parents and employees who are mandated by law to report abuse to law enforcement. In sum, until corrective action and sanctions are enforced against those breaking the law, NO CHILD, ADULT, EMPLOYEE OR FAMILY is safe!
If anyone wants copies of binders full of documents requesting information and reporting wrongdoing, please contact me at bodkind@hotmail.com.

Posted On: Saturday, Jul. 4 2009 @ 11:22AMWelcone Back Beppe 'Red Shoes' Ratzinger to the AXIS OF EVIL; since Saddam Hussein was, well how do we put it, oh yes, given a 'Roman Prescription'!
My colleage, President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahamdinejad, compliments you on your election style, he learned a great deal from you, on how to run a fair and balanced election!
I myself, the Supreme Leader of The Peoples Democratic Republic Of North Korea, Kim Jong Il, have learned much in how to oppress truth, from you, and your Curia; however I must let you know, it was almost a tie wth Senior General Than Shwe of Myanmar (Burma), and President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, as to which State would get the coveted third spot in the AXIS.
Honorable mentions go to Syria, Russia, the Congo, Sudan, Somalia, and Saudi Arabia.
The Axis Of Evil nomination committee decided Al Queda, High Seas Pirates, and the Taliban, did not qualify, officially, as for their lack of despot nation-state status, to be nominated, was in question, at this time.
Congratulations to The Holy See, for showing "the way" to global terrorism, lies, body counts, wholeslae theft, racketeering, extorsion, mass endnagerment, propaganda, despotism, and opression, for a previous, and returning, new standard, in making the world a darker place!
Love & Kisses,
Kim Jong Il,
Supreme Leader
2009 Rotating Chair,
AXIS OF EVIL
Seriously? Doesn't this gat a bit old? Who ever had the balls to print and distribute fliers didn't have the cajones to identify himself?
Weak, really weak!!!
Posted On: Monday, Jul. 6 2009 @ 5:38PMAnd you know what, Mary? That anon showed more courage than Urell could ever hope to have. "Weak" is Urell and his apologists, of which there are too many to count, alas...
Posted On: Tuesday, Jul. 7 2009 @ 10:59AMWhat would be accomplished if the person gave his name... BESIDES YOUR MISSING THE BIGGER PICTURE THAT PERSON/PERSONS DID IT ON A SUNDAY, Not only was it distributed at the church but in the surrounding areas as well...(So a face would be more then enough, Should we call saint Longinus to put a hit on him?) so mary I ask you are you mad cause you can't crucify the person? Many martyrs die nameless. Viva la résistance (LOL). Mary you must be one of those people who go to church and pray and think that they can go on judging people! Well honey I'll be waving at you from atop the clouds :-)
Posted On: Tuesday, Jul. 7 2009 @ 6:46PMIgnorance is bliss isn't it Mary?
I say we get rid of all those anonymous tip lines too. Better to have criminals out on the street than a lot of people without balls.
To do good works and not seek credit for it seems awful. How dare this person not take credit for such an honorable act. They really stuck their neck out didn't they? We should have the right to chop it off shouldn'te we? I am so frustrated that I can't take my anger out on this person. I DEMAND TO KNOW who I can direct my anger towards and don't say Urell because I have my fingers in my ears and I cant hear you.
Posted On: Tuesday, Jul. 7 2009 @ 7:24PMLets meet in person and direct it towards me. You are more than welcome to try it. It wasnt anonymous, I handed out the fliers to people in person. Please by all means try!!! I am more than willing to meet with anyone who thinks I am a coward. I served my country for 5 years as a Navy SEAL, so please come-one-come all!!! :)
