We and supporters of sex-abuse victims celebrated loudly when Bishop Jaime Soto left the Diocese of Orange to become the eventual head bishop of the Diocese of Sacramento. Soto, while a staunch defender of immigrant rights, was an active member of the Orange diocese sex-abuse scandal cover-up. To quote just a small part of a previous Ex Cathedra post:
Soto's role, compared to other heavyweights in Orange, seems small. In 1986, he wrote a letter in support of Andrew Christian Anderson, one of only two Orange County Catholic priests ever convicted of sex-abuse crimes. Soto was also the poor sap in charge of trying to fish back Eleuterio Ramos from Tijuana after a Ramos victim filed a lawsuit against the Orange diocese's most notorious pedophile. Of course, there's always the sin of silence, but we'll put that aside for the meanwhile. Actually, let's bring it back. Soto is someone so suffocated in the Catholic bubble he can't see the hell it's become for sex-abuse victims and Catholics with any sense of morality.
On that note, it's nice to know that Soto has a bigger problem with homosexuals than he does pedophile priests.
On Sept. 18 in Long Beach, Soto addressed the National Association of Catholic Diocesan Lesbian and Gay Ministries conference, a lay organization seeking to comfort gay and lesbian Catholics from their idiot superiors. Soto had previously expressed sympathy for gays and lesbians, a stance that got him in trouble with crazy Catholics. But in his Sept. 18 speech, Soto made sure to say the words that will endear him to the conservatives in his church forever and offend those of us with a brain and heart:
Sexual relations between people of the same sex can be alluring for homosexuals, but it deviates from the true meaning of the act and distracts them from the true nature of love to which God has called us all. For this reason, it is sinful. Married love is a beautiful, heroic expression of faithful, life-giving, life-creating love. It should not be accommodated and manipulated for those who would believe that they can and have a right to mimic its unique expression.
Soto also came out in favor of Proposition 8, which seeks to limit marriage between a man and a woman in California, and urged chastity for gays and lesbians.
Funny, that Soto. While in Orange County, the pendejo never used such strong words to denounce his fellow pedo-priests or the diocesan hierarchy that protected them--instead, he offered hollow apologies while fighting victims tooth and nail while they sought justice. Instead Soto likes to rail against the easy stuff--raunchy Spanish-language television, fags, modern-day culture, and other things that require no courage to opine. Pendejo--o, my apologies. To properly give Bishop Soto the proper respect, His Pendejo-ness.
Debby Bodkin says:
Gustavo... as always, great lunch reading.
However, I am very confused about Bishop Soto's public statements about homosexuality. Both Bishops Soto and Brown are fully aware that SEVERAL Diocese of Orange Catholic school teachers and ADMINISTRATORS openly live in same sex relationships and have for 20 years plus. Why did Bishop Soto keep his views silent when he was assigned to the Diocese of Orange and had full knowledge of homosexual lifestyles of school leaders?
Strangely, the same Catholic school administrators who live a lifestyle that Bishop Soto speaks out against, also failed to report sex crimes committed against children and potential school zone shooting violence similar to the Columbine HS tragedy. Yet, they are all still employed for life with the Diocese. To the Diocese of Orange Bishops and attorneys: Think about punishing employees who have sexually abused minor children and/or have failed to report sex crimes or other child endangerment issues to law enforcement as mandated by law, BEFORE you publicly criticize same sex relationships that have never committed a crime against anyone and never will.
My four children attended Catholic schools in the Diocese of Orange most of their lives. However, I am very glad my children are not in Diocese of Orange schools today because I definitely do not want them learning how to be hypocrits by judging others who would never sexually abuse a child... and then reward sexual predator employees with $100,000 payments and letters of recommendation, without a thought that another child's life could be destroyed again!
One has to wonder what our children are thinking nowadays.... Church leaders preach one set of rules and then live an entirely different set of self-serving rules, while continuing to lie and deceive the faithful in the pews who need to understand how and why hundreds of children were sexually abused, without a thought to how many sexual predator employees the Diocese of Orange leaders have set free to abuse again in our society!
Parents.... love and watch over your children--they need you! Please ask questions, request investigations and demand answers from the Diocese of Orange Bishops, school administrators and attorneys. Ask why the Diocese of Orange focused on protecting a public image before protecting precious children from horrifc sex crimes. If no one asks questions and demands corrective action, no child, adult or family is safe while under the care of the Diocese. SEEK ANSWERS!

WHAT?!
It is COMMON KNOWLEDGE that both Brown and Soto are in the closet practicing gays, not celebate, blackmailed into enabling, aid, & abetting, racketeering, perjury, collusion, fraud, perjury obstruction of justice, fraud, etc., by pedophile and minor sexual assaulters of the cloth, in the Orange Diocese, for their homosexuality?

Well, the headline of the on-line blog., CALIFORNIA CATHOLIC DAILEY, concerning Bishop Soto's (then) upcoming address to this Gay and Lesbian Catholic Group read, "Birds of A Feather"; with Soto's photo prominently displayed next to the title. I don't know what the CCD Editors thought Soto would say; but in the follow up story it seems everyone was pleasently surprised that the Bishop held to church party lines. Needless to say, the, "Faithful" who put in their two cents worth in the comment section went absolutely wild with the news. (There's nothing more disturbing than a bunch of catholics, mad drunk on religion). I too know of priests who are openly "living in sin" with their various male lovers. I have even seen one bishop, "In Action" when he thought no one was looking. Again, the priorities of this faith based corporation which poses as a religion, is all screwed up.

In reply to albinoiluciani's following post:
"I guess this is from the Rog Mahal Mahony playbook of "Do As We Say, Not As We Do" chapter?"
Gee, it struck me (flashback), I wonder if Mahony gave the same playbook to John Lenihan, the predator priest who sexually abused me.
Lenihan commanded me to "Do as I say, not as I do." He thought that was real funny too as he laughed at me, the kid he was molesting.
"Bible for Priest Predators" How to Rape Kids and Get Away With It." Maybe NAMBLA or the pope's got a copy of it.
Maby the Vatican spun their own title on it in their 1962 letter bishops. That one was called, Crimen Solicitationis (The Crime of Solicitation).
I would be surpised if there are quite a few playbooks among the good ol boys Catholic club.

Another rule Lenihan asked me, the kid he was molesting, is if I knew about "What's the only kind of meat priests can eat on Fridays?"
Of course I didn't know what he was talking about...I thought no Catholics were allowed to eat meat on Fridays?
But he laughed at my blank look, the kid he was molesting, and told me that "The only kind of meat priests can eat on Fridays in Nun."
I didn't laugh and was confused. I had no idea what he meant. But Lenihan sure got a kick out of it, straight from his playbook.
Now, as an adult I get the sick demented jest of his predatory commands and rules and wonder if he abused some "Habits" on Fridays?

The Roman Catholic priesthood is a gay profession. Their anti-gay diatribe is a smoke screen attempt to cover up that reality. It's an inconvenient truth for most Catholics who don't want to face up to the fact that they have been supporting the sexual double lives of their priests and bishops.

Bishop Soto is equally as guilty for all the abuse to children. It's as if he committed the abuse with his own hands in my eye's. OK folks this came off the AP press yesterday (9/25/08) evening.....
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Evangelist and convicted tax evader Tony Alamo waived his right to fight extradition to Arkansas AFTER HIS ARREST ON CHARGES THAT HE TOOK MINORS ACROSS STATE LINES FOR SEXUAL PURPOSES (emphasis mine).
My point in presenting the news item is, YES, the OC "pedo-priests" are hideous monsters that need to be arrested & locked up in prison (with huge guys named "Bubba" as cell-mates).
HOWEVER, there are a whole lotta other "pedo-preachers" out there in the OC--who ain't Catholic--that are also committing horrible acts against children.
I'd like to see OC Weekly do write-ups on these "pedo-preachers" as well--not just the "pedo-priests".
Furthermore, blog contributor Albino Luciani has a great point about STOP DONATING.
Not only should the laity stop donating to the OC Archdiocese, but that advice should also be extended to non-Catholic congregations, where "pedo-preachers" are lurking.

Richard Sipe says:
: CIRCULATE THIS
You are absolutely right. Priests do not speak up about the abuse they
know about. The reason:
Most, I repeat most, have had or are having some kind of sexual
contact, experience, relationship, or habit. They run the risk of
exposing themselves, or in some cases superiors or bishops with
whom they have had sex-play, experience, or a relationship. Even
temporary involvement of priests in sexual relationships with other
priests or sexual experimentation puts them in a fearful state. Celibacy
is not a common or persistent practice among the clergy. Homosexual
contact, and slips (or what the Vatican has labeled "transitional homosexuality")
are so common—especially in seminaries and religious orders that many
clergy who subsequently or eventually strive to establish a celibate practice are
caught in the circle of secrecy that
covers even sexual abuse of minors (often indulged by newly ordained
priests with only a few victims) or by other priests who continue the practice.
This is a "scarlet bond" of secrecy that is inculcated from the top down
(Vatican) and preserved by bishops and superiors for fear of exposure;
The system in which all clergy are caught demands cover up at any cost
to save themselves (the Church) from scandal. Truth, honesty, transparency,
accountability, and people (non-clerics) be damned.
I am working on a study of the "genealogy of sexual abuse in the Roman
Catholic priesthood." Clergy are taught the dynamic of abuse and secrecy
from their first days in training. And their teachers are often promoted to
the ranks of bishop and superior.

Aw c'mon Gustavo, where's the love?!
Again, I reiterate my statement from my initial blog, "YES, the OC "pedo-priests" are hideous monsters that need to be arrested & locked up in prison (with huge guys named "Bubba" as cell-mates)."
Does OC Weely need to go after the pedo-priests? ABSOLUTELY (and you're doing a great job of it)!
My concern, is that because there aren't as many stories written up about the rest of the non-Catholic, "pedo-preachers" (i.e., "p-p's"), these "p-p's" are gonna get it in their heads (i.e., the one on top of their shoulders) that because the attention is focused on Catholic priests, people aren't gonna bother too much with the non-Catholic, "p-p's".
OK, you told us about Kevin Van Otterloo (four years ago), and Scott Moxley tells us each week about his "Citizen of the Week", and YES, they're all a bunch of scumbags that deserve to be in jail (although in their cases, calling them scumbags, is unfortunately more of a compliment, than an insult).
However, Kevin Van Otterloo IS NOT a "pedo-preacher" and so far, neither are ANY of the scumbags in "Citizen of the Week".
I guess what I'm asking/saying is that when it comes to the pedophiles (or any criminal), OC Weekly should leave no stone unturned.
YES, go after the pedo-priests!
YES, go after the Kevn Van Otterloo's of the world!
And, YES, go after all those "Citizens of the Week"!
BUT, in addition to them, PLEASE go after those non-Catholic, "pedo-preachers", that way the message will be sent that NO CLERGY--REGARDLESS OF RELIGIOUS DENOMINATON--is exempt from the watchful eye of newspapers such as OC Weekly!
