UPDATE, NOV. 21, 4:21 P.M.: The Santa Ana Police Department just announced that it, too, will conduct a checkpoint tonight, from 9 p.m. through 3 a.m. Saturday in the area of 1400 South Bristol Street.

Devin Ashley Chavez Was DUI and Had Cocaine on Him When He Crashed into Pier: Police

Devin Ashley Chavez has a DUI and battery past in OC.
A 28-year-old Cypress man driving his 2003 Honda Civic while impaired and carrying cocaine on him led a high speed police chase early Thursday that ended after the car crashed into a cement bench at the Manhattan Beach Pier, according to authorities.

Devin Ashley Chavez was being held in lieu of $75,000 bail on suspicion of evading police, driving under the influence and possession of cocaine, according to the Manhattan Beach Police Department.

He's due in court in Torrance on Monday.

The fun began after a patrol car noticed the Civic driving slowly with its lights off--around 1 a.m.

Herbert Granados Calderon is the Latest Fatal DUI Suspect Facing a Murder Charge

Another day, another previous drunken-driving defendant in his 20s facing a murder charge after a fatal crash on an Orange County road. Already this month: Neil Storm Stephany, 23, of Huntington Beach, was charged with second-degree murder in a suspected drunken driving fueled collision that killed a bicyclist in Newport Beach; and Placentia's Adam Harrison Hall lost an appeal of a murder conviction for running a red light while blazing on drugs, killing a woman walking with a lost dog in Laguna Niguel. Hall was 27 at the time.

The Orange County District Attorney's office has now slapped a murder charge on 23-year-old Herbert Granados Calderon, who like Stephany and Hall had a previous DUI conviction and a warning that he could face a murder count for a future DUI fatality.

Adam Harrison Hall Loses Appeal of Murder Conviction for DUI Crash That Killed Pedestrian

Adam Harrison Hall ran a red light and collided with another car before a woman on foot was killed.

If you thought it was harsh that Adam Harrison Hall was charged with (and later convicted of) murder for a drug-fueled crash in Laguna Niguel that killed a woman walking with a lost dog, a state appellate court panel would disagree with you. The three justices upheld the 30-year-old Placentia man's second-degree murder conviction Tuesday.
