This past Wednesday, the stage was set for an ultimate face-off: Our own R. Scott Moxley, the finest reporter in these here parts, and Register reporter Tony Saavedra, both staring down Mike Schroeder, local GOP king-maker (former Sheriff-maker, soon-to-be felon-maker), in front of the assembled members of the Orange County Press Club. Some of you may have seen signs advertising the event - "There Will Be Blood."

Saavedra's the vulture of Orange County journalism--fat fuck LOVES to swoop in on the scraps of others, then passes it off as his kill.

The truth is... the OC Register did not have the courage to report the goods on now retired Mike Carona. And, the OC Register did not have the guts to report negative truths about an OC Republican Sheriff who gave out badges to political donors.
The OC Weekly investigative reporters serve the public's interest because they take the time to confirm facts, investigate court records and report their findings. The OC Republican GOP does not like it when investigative reporters report the truths about corrupt elected public officials--so, the OC Register does what it is told or as many say, reports the wishes of the highest bidder.
Orange County is heading down the wrong road--very similar to the City of Stepford. At least there is one publication that has the ethical standards to inform the public about wrongdoing and illegal activity supported by the political connected in the OC.

This seems to be a pattern with the Register. They fail to investigate matters related to powerful Republicans in Orange County.
Where's their detailed coverage of the Jeff Nielsen case?
