On Friday at a Harbor City hospital, Nguyen Huy Vu's family decided to take the 34-year-old reporter off artificial life support following a Mother's Day heart attack that had left him brain dead.

Suzie Suh filed this report at KCAL's Channel 9.

Chuyen Nguyen, Vu's father and a longtime Little Saigon community leader, said his son's body will be cremated after Catholic services.

During his career, Vu worked at OC Weekly, The Orange County Register, Seattle Times, Associated Press, Nguoi Viet and finally at the Daily Breeze, where he covered education.

He is survived by a grandmother, both parents, a younger brother and his wife of six months, Deputy Attorney General Heather Hua.

Vu: You will not be forgotten. You touched so many with your kindness, work ethic, articles, and vision. May all of Vu's loved ones know this, know that their dearly departed profoundly touched everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.

It felt like it was yesterday when we went to elementary and jr. high school together. He was such a cool guy then, and I'm not surprised that he had grown into a man who was so loved. May he rest in peace.
