wow.... always thought that Blankenship was an attorney but after checking California State Bar's website at www.calsb.org, he is not. Why would the DA put a non-attorney in charge of investigations?
Posted On: Tuesday, Mar. 10 2009 @ 8:12AMReported late 3/9/09. The Orange County DA will seek the death penalty against a man who is charged with sexually assaulting and killing a pregnant woman in Costa Mesa 21 years ago. Jason Balcom is accused of murdering Malinda Gibbons when she was 4 to 6 weeks pregnant, in Costa Mesa, California. 21 years ago there was no DNA testing available.
BUT, in 2004, the DNA was matched to Balcom, whose DNA had been collected in a Michigan rape case. Balcom is currently serving a 30- to 50-year prison sentence for the Michigan rape case. He is now being held at Orange County Jail awaiting an April trial date.
QUESTIONS:
If Balcom is serving a 30 to 50 year prison sentence for a rape committed in Michigan, then why is he being held at the Orange County jail, awaiting an April trial date?
Why did it take 5 years to match the DNA to Balcom?
Is this a case Blankenship supervised????
Posted On: Tuesday, Mar. 10 2009 @ 8:24AMBalcom was charged with murder in 2004 - 2005 in OCSC Case No. 04HF0905. WHY DID THE DA DISMISS THE CASE BACK THEN?
Posted On: Tuesday, Mar. 10 2009 @ 8:31AMBlankenship is a stand-up guy. It is Rackauckus who is dirty. I am surprised Don lasted this long. T-Rack usually fires his guys in a lot shorter time.

RE THE COCAINE ARREST yesterday at the John Wayne Airport, PAUL FRANCIS SMITH, was arrested with approximately $60,000 cocaine strapped on his legs at the John Wayne Airport. There is an individual with the name PAUL GENTILE SMITH, Case No. 09CF0579, who was also charged with murder but no hearing is scheduled yet. Cannot find a Paul Francis Smith who was arrested for the cocaine bust yesterday...maybe it is a federal case.

The actual reason is political theater. Blankenship hired investigators that didn't fit in line with Rackauckas's political views, a looming budget crunch starts coming up and Rackauckas wants to lay off said investigators. Blankenship defended these investigators to the end and battled the layoffs over the past few months. Blankenship was already slated to go out on medical leave for surgery for a previous on the job injury. The DA's office is in disarray now knowing that it will be a free for all with layoffs. Rackauckas will clean out those who don't fall in line for his upcoming re-election bid.
Posted On: Tuesday, Mar. 10 2009 @ 9:50AMDon Blankenship is an honest, stand-up guy. I know and respect him.
To say "About time. Corrupt!" is an irresponsible statement and is without facts/foundation. Especially when you are talking about someone who has had an unblemished law enforcement career for over 30 years.
I highly doubt is is about the Balcom case. The waiting list for DNA comparison is out the door plus if the sample is not on file, it won't be until the person is arrested. Why would that be Blankenships fault anyway?
My guess is... POLITICS!
WIthout any facts, please keep your dumb-sh_t statements to yourselves!
Oh goodie, another orange county law enforcement scandal to follow. True or not, having retired from OC law enforcement after 30 years, I love watching both sides sling sh*t and then defend! Fun, fun, fun!!
Posted On: Tuesday, Mar. 10 2009 @ 10:38PMThe DA's Office Head of Investigations is usually in law enforcement and not an Attorney. Also, attorney's fees are really steep and if you are not practicing law then you would go inactive and it doesn't mean anything if Blankenship went inactive.
