What Do You Get When You Mix Surfing and Green Living?
"Surfing, Ocean Stewardship and Green Building" is the title of a seminar that runs from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at the Surfrider Foundation HQ, 942 Calle Negocio, San Clemente.
Participants include Surfrider, of course, Ecofficiency, ReRip, Marko Foam and Malama Composites. The fee to attend is $25 for USGBC OC Chapter members, $35 for non-members and $15 for students.
The chapter sponsors "Pass the LEED BD+C Exam With Confidence: LEED Green Associate Exam Prep" from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 24 at Waxie Sanitary Supply, 3220 South Fairview; Santa Ana. The workshop focuses on the key information necessary to pass the LEED AP BD+C exam. The early registration fee is $245 for USGBC members, $175 for student members and $345 for non-members prior to Sept. 10. After that, fees are $295 for members, $175 for student members and $345 for non-members.
Finally, the USGBC chapter is encouraging attendance to an open house and campus tour of Stonegate Elementary School, 100 Honors, Irvine, from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 27. The Irvine Unified School District's solar energy initiative, integration of sustainability into the curriculum and the importance of educating students for a green future will be discussed. The keynote speaker is Mark Santag, the district's curriculum coordinator. Students and parents of IUSD are free with Student ID. USGBC member fee is $20, for non-members it is $35 and for students it's $10--if you register by Friday. After that, the fees rise by $5.
