The IRS Does Not Have My Stimulus Package Hanging

With all the holler on the tee-vee about economical stimulatin', surely this email signed "Regards, Internal Revenue Service" in my junk folder is bonafide.

After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity we have determined that you are eligible to receive a Stimulus Payment. Please submit the Stimulus Payment form in order to process it.

A Stimulus Payment can be delayed for a variety of reasons. For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline.

To submit your Stimulus Payment form, please download the attached document.

Note: If filing or preparation fees were deducted from your 2007 Refund or you received a refund anticipation loan, you will be receiving a check instead of a direct deposit.

Regards,
Internal Revenue Service

Turns out it's the email is not just a faker-faker-bellyacher, it's a phishing scam aimed at getting my personal info, according to the Weekly's Gurus O' Computerin'.

It's just the latest tax scam that baddies, generally overseas, pull every six months or a year, according to the real IRS, which advises against opening any attachments, filling out any forms or supplying any personal information. You can forward such emails here and receive more info about them here.

Scams like these are just one more thing I will leave behind when I move to my private tropical island, which I'm buying as soon as my check from the rich Nigerian prince arrives.

RP in FV says:

Are you trying to tell me there is someone NOT named Internal Revenue Service? I know a guy (wink, wink) who knew a guy who went to school with a guy who knew the Service family. The dad's name was Secret, and his mom's name was Postal.

Damn. And they were all originally from Nigeria...

Bob Squalonero says:

Hey RP,

You forgot the twin members of the Service family!

They work for the U.S. military, and their names are Naval-Crimininal & Investigative. ;-)

Sign over all your monies to me, and you will no longer need to put up with those scams.

RP in FV says:

I guess a Nigerian cook makes about as much as a Nigerian prince. Uh...okay. I suppose you'll need my Social Security number too.

Jeez, don't they have any Social Security numbers in Nigeria?
