OC Filmmaker's Larry Norman Doc to Screen in Town Where Father of Christian Rock's Music Career Took Off

norman2.jpgOur cover story "Rock Angel: Garden Grove filmmaker David Di Sabatino is drawn to charismatic but damaged Christians. But nothing prepared him for Larry Norman" tells the story of the torture the director of Frisbee: The Life and Death of a Hippie Preacher experienced making his follow-up documentary, Fallen Angel: The Outlaw Larry Norman.

This following is posted on DiSabatino's Facebook page:

My new documentary on the life of Larry Norman has just garnered early acceptance to the Cinequest film festival (www.cinequest.org) that runs February 25th to March 8th, 2009 in San Jose, CA. More details to follow.

San Jose is a fitting city for the film's debut. Norman left his parents' San Francisco home in the mid-1960s and moved to San Jose, where he got involved in the local mainstream-rock scene, joining brothers Geoff and Robb Levin in forming the band People! They were signed by Capitol Records in 1966 and hit No. 14 on the Billboard Top 20 in June 1968 with their cover of the Zombies' "I Love You."

Months before his death in February at age 60, Norman was inducted into the San Jose Rocks Hall of Fame.
