Newport Beach Film Festival Seeks Young Talent

volcom.jpgIf you are a filmmaker who is 18 or younger, the Newport Beach Film Festival wants you. Entries are being sought for the 2009 Youth Film Showcase, a free springtime event that gives young people a forum for their cinematic masterpieces.

Besides allowing budding Tarantinos opportunities to express themselves and display their creativity to the world, the showcase is sponsored by Volcom, which means their should be some good swag. And you young 'uns just might rub scaly elbows with a real celebrity, as past showcases have included chairpeople like Will Ferrell, who hosted the 2005 affair.

Da Scoop:

The competition is open to U.S. and international filmmakers 18 years and younger. Filmmakers can submit live action or animated short films of all genres, including drama, romance, comedy, documentary, action sports, experimental, musical and science fiction. Individual filmmakers, film groups or school classes may enter their films.

Filmmakers can submit by following the prompts here or by downloading an entry form here and submitting it by February 3. (Yikes! Get those cameras rolling!)

If your Citizen Kane is chosen, it will be shown on a big screen at Edwards Island Cinema in Newport Beach's Fashion Island, where an awards ceremony and question and answer session with student filmmakers will also be held. The actual date has not yet been set, but it will be some time during the 10th annual Newport Beach Film Festival, which runs April 23-30. Click here for more information.
