A day after the Assembly Ethics Committee and Assembly Speaker Karen Bass announced they will not go after disgraced former Assemblyman Mike Duvall, California Attorney General Jerry Brown revealed today he doesn't plan to investigate the Yorba Linda Republican either.

In other Duvall news, five candidates have reportedly qualified to run in a November special election for the Assembly seat he vacated.

Duvall quit the Legislature on Sept. 9, hours after the Weekly's R. Scott Moxley and KCBS/KCAL reporter Dave Lopez revealed Duvall was caught on videotape boasting to colleague Jeffrey Miller, the Republican assemblyman out of Mission Viejo, about extramarital sexual escapades with two female lobbyists.

Brown's office says Duvall did not break any laws and won't be investigated unless new information comes to light. Bass had said Monday that because Duvall was no longer a member of the Assembly, there will be no investigation there. As far as we know, the FBI is the lone government agency still probing Duvall.

There is still apparently an ongoing internal investigation by Sempra Energy, the employer of one of the lobbyists who was placed on temporary leave despite her denial of an affair with the married father of two who championed morality issues in the Assembly--while also serving on the committee with Sempra business before it.

In other Duvall news, the Orange County Register reports that five candidates have qualified to run in the Nov. 17 special election to fill his former seat. They are:

Linda Ackerman, a Fullerton Republican who serves on the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California board of directors and is the wife of former Senate Republican Leader Dick Ackerman;

Richard Faher, a Placentia Republican businessman;

John MacMurray, a La Habra Democrat public school teacher;

Chris Norby, a Fullerton Republican who serves on the Orange County Board of Supervisors;

Jane Rands, a Fullerton Green who works as a systems engineer.
