Little Saigon's Tet Festival is Friday through Sunday (the actual Vietnamese New Year), so the Garden Grove Police Department issued a reminder to the community that the city imposes a $1,000 fine on those who set off illegal fireworks.

Indeed, simply possessing fireworks that are not approved by the state "at any time in the city" subjects one to the fine, according to Garden Grove police, which adds only "safe and sane" fireworks are allowed within city limits.

The Garden Grove City Council unanimously approved adding the $1,000 fine to the city code in March 2007.
