John Taylor Describes His Last Day on the Job at Nixon Library

John H. Taylor, who left his longtime gig as the executive director of the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace Foundation to lead St. John Chrysostom Episcopal Church and School as the Rancho Santa Margarita church's vicar, describes the events of his last day on the job in Yorba Linda here.

It was highlighted by a visit from Edward Nixon, Dick's younger brother and the sole survivor among Hannah and Frank Nixon's five boys, who recounted childhood tales, hawked his new book The Nixons: A Family Portrait and signed copies for some of the 800 people in attendance. Among the friends wishing Taylor well were former Orange County GOP chairman Tom Fuentes, who apparently has a new liver; founding foundation member Clara Jane Nixon, widow of Dick's brother Donald; and former Nixon White House aide Bruce Herschensohn, an author, unsuccessful U.S. Senate candidate and one-time KABC-TV commentator.

"I was even blessed to meet the youngest Nixonian, Lily Feith, daughter of former Docent Guild president Steve Feith and his wife, Danielle," writes Taylor, before joking, "Indoctrination begins early at the Nixon Library, so we should have Lily conversant on the Hiss case by age five."

He was joking, right?
