Greg Long Fights Off Kelly Slater, Wins Another Big Wave Crown

The Billabong video above from last spring chronicles San Clemente's Greg Long catching one of the greatest big wave paddle-in tubes of all time during the Red Bull Big Wave Africa contest at Dungeons, Cape Town South Africa. It also earned him Ride of the Year honors and $50,000 at the 2009 Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards.

Long's winning ways continued Wednesday on the North Shore of Oahu.

The 24-year-old fought off a strong challenge from nine-time world champion Kelly Slater--and the churning surf--to win the Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau Competition.

In the end, 37-year-old Slater had 313 points on judges' cards to Long's 323.

Long's Hawaiian prize: $55,000.
