Further proving that otherwise politically conservative Newport Beach has an environmental streak when it comes to its own shores (but no one else's): Rep. John Campbell (R-The Arches) joined Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Garden Grove) as the only members of the Orange County congressional delegation to vote against lifting the 25-year ban on oil and natural gas drilling off most of the Pacific and Atlantic coasts and the eastern part of the Gulf of Mexico.
The legislation, which passed by a vote of 232-187, controversially offers states billions of dollars in federal revenues if they allow drilling off their coasts. Campbell's OC coastal congressional colleagues Dana Rohrbacher (R-Huntington Beach) and Ken Calvert (R-Riverside, but part of his gerrymandered district takes in the South County coast) voted for oilying up our shores. They were joined by OC inlanders Ed Royce (R-Fullerton) and Gary Miller (R-Diamond Bar, but part of his gerrymandered district takes in chunks of North County).
RP in FV says:
Dana Rohrbacher voted for what?! But, but he's a real surfer and everything, right? I'm sure you're misinformed because he's looking after us and protecting us from everything- North Korean missles, Taliban shoe-bombers and Jack Abrimoff (who he went to school with and who hosted a baby shower at his D.C. restaurant, but doesn't REALLY know very well).
No, I'm sure he's uh, planning for a... a... oil slick! Yea, that's it! An oil slick that will keep out the ILLEGAL ALIENS from swimming all the way from Mexico to our formerly beautiful Orange County shores. The fecal matter in the surf didn't keep them away, maybe the "Texas Tea" will.
Besides, when he's done being our dedicated surf-dude congressman, he'll be sucking up all the gravy from his sweet new job as a lobbyist from his big-ass house in D.C.

What does Dana Rohrbacher care? He doesn't live in Huntington Beach, he lives in D.C. He doesn't care that the HB sand is already slick full of oil, and that allowing this bill will make it worse. I went to the HB dog beach once and my dog came back with all black paws.

Shockingly, Ed Royce's office did not return my call on this issue. Or any other. Ever.
