The Weekly, which has taken jabs over the years at a certain Irvine city councilwoman and announced congressional candidate, expresses its deepest condolences to Beth and Solly Krom, who are mourning the death of their 22-year-old son.

"It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of our son Noah Krom in Santa Barbara on Friday night," the couple wrote on Beth's congressional campaign Web site, bethkrom.com. "He was a senior at the University of California Santa Barbara.

"We appreciate the kind thoughts, prayers and messages we have received from our friends, the community, and our colleagues, as well as messages from those who have touched Noah's life over the years. We are grateful for your support during this difficult time."

Three people walking on an Isla Vista beach below the 6600 block of Del Playa Drive called Santa Barbara County sheriff's deputies at 6:15 a.m. Saturday to say they had discovered a man's body. A sheriff's spokesman later announced the preliminary indication was that the man fell from the cliff sometime overnight. Campus police revealed the victim was a UC Santa Barbara student.

Noah Krom was going to graduate in about a week. A memorial service has yet to be scheduled.

He is survived by his mother and father, brother Hershel and sister Abby.
