Andrew Thomas Gallo, Accused of Killing Angel Pitcher Nick Adenhart and 2 Others, Wants His Murder Trial Moved Out of OC

​Andrew Thomas Gallo, who is charged with killing Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others in an April 2009 booze-fueled Fullerton car crash, wants his triple-murder trial scheduled to being in July moved out of Halo Country.

An attorney for the 23-year-old Riverside man has filed a change-of-venue motion in Orange County Superior Court.

Fallen Angel

​Adenhart, in his first big league start, pitched six scoreless innings from atop the Big A mound hours before the 22-year-old right-hander headed for a dance club in a car driven by Cal State Fullerton student Courtney Stewart, 20, in the early morning hours of April 9, 2009. Law student Henry Pearson, 25, and former Titan catcher Jon Wilhite, then 24, were also passengers.

Stewart's silver Mitsubishi was clipped by a red minivan at the intersection of Orangethorpe Avenue and Lemon Street before slamming into a light pole. A third car was also smashed at the same intersection, although its driver was unharmed.

Stewart, Pearson and Adenhart, who hailed from Silver Spring, Maryland, died at the scene. Despite suffering internal decapitation, Wilhite has miraculously survived.

The minivan driver fled the scene, but Gallo was later apprehended and initially arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. The Orange County District Attorney later charged Gallo with three counts of murder, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license because of a prior DUI conviction. He has pleaded not guilty.
