Aaron Boone Retires, Joins ESPN

Believed to be the first player to bounce back from open-heart surgery, Boone was on the Houston Astros' roster in 2009.
Arguably the biggest moment of his 12 seasons in the bigs was the walk-off homer he hit for the Yankees to clinch Game 7 over the Boston Red Sox in the 2003 American League Championship Series. Boone also had stints with the Reds, Indians, Marlins and Nationals.
He called it "a privilege and honor" to have played for six different clubs in the majors, according to an Associated Press report.
(A funny thing about that report, at least the version that appeared on OCLNN, was this line: "Boone's father, Bob Boone, played for the Los Angeles Angeles of Anaheim from 1982-88." Besides misspelling Angels, there was no "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" from 1982-88, when the franchise was known as the California Angels.)
Aaron Boone worked for ESPN Radio during the 2009 National League division series, and will next appear as a contributor to the sports network's Baseball Tonight in March.
