The Wedge Like You've Never Seen It Before
HLN From Entourage to The Wedge.
SHFT, "a lifestyle platform founded by film producer Peter Glatzer and actor-filmmaker Adrian Grenier," sounds so La-La-Land as to be repellent to many behind the Orange Curtain. But we're down with their stated mission ("to convey a more sustainable approach to the way we live through film, design, art and food") and really, really down with a video they just shared of The Wedge in Balboa.
It was produced by Air Reel Productions and, as the company name indicates, relied on aerial camera work of the legendary shore breakers.
Check it out:
Many, including the Weekly, have presented dramatic still and video images of The Wedge over the years. Ironically, "SHFT!" is the sound bodysurfers hear upon being planted in the sand there.
Can anyone recall seeing video of The Wedge that looked like this? I can't. That was by design, according to Air Reel Productions text that accompanies the video. "We have always been fascinated by this freak of nature and wanted to capture [it] from new angles and lightning. Total respect for surfers, bodysurfers and bodyboarders that risk it on every swell to experience the rush of this emblematic wave."
They were especially risking it this past weekend, when a hazardous conditions alert was in place. Just down the coast in Dana Point, a search was called off Sunday night for a 60-year-old man presumed to have drowned while body surfing in big waves off Salt Creek Beach around 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
