Little Arabia Protests Israeli Ground Invasion of Gaza

"Gaza, Gaza, don't you cry, Palestine will never die!"

Two hundred demonstrators took to the streets of Anaheim's Little Arabia Friday afternoon chanting and waving the green, red, white and black flag of Palestine. In the latest in an ongoing conflagration, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered a ground invasion of Gaza, an ultra-dense, besieged strip of land on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea.

The restaurants and markets of Little Arabia are now officially a tourist attraction, but protests show that it continues to be the OC heart and soul of Middle Eastern politics, too.

Zinab Alsadek, a student at UC Irvine and member of Students for Justice in Palestine, called the demonstration to action.

"The media is very biased and won't say anything about the Palestinian deaths that have been occurring," Alsadek said. "Since July 7, over 200 Palestinians have died." She pointed to ABC news anchor Diane Sawyer showing images of destruction in Gaza recently and calling it Israel.

The latest death toll figures for Palestinians climbed to over 300 as of today. Alsadek called on protesters to stage a "die-in" as people laid on the sidewalks.

Two Israeli soldiers and one civilian are dead since the start of increased hostilities. Rockets continue to launch from Gaza but inflict minimal damage in comparison to Israeli armament.

"We are in America and America is such good friends to Israel," Alsadek said. "But what we hope for one day is for America to realize is that their military aide is killing innocent lives." The number of dead Palestinian children stands at 70 so far.

At the protest, activists passed out flyers for an Islamic Relief USA emergency iftar fundraiser tonight at the Anaheim Hilton. "They are trying to raise a million dollars for people in Gaza," said volunteer Salsabil Gehan. "A lot of hospitals closed down because there are way too many patients and way too few doctors." They want to provide the most basic needs including medicine, food and water in this time of crisis.

"It's sad because I feel like this happens every Ramadan," Gehan added. The Islamic holy month of fasting and prayers ends soon. "My prayer for Gaza is that this whole thing will end and that Gaza will be free."

Really I am fed up with this Israel is the invader what it has done in the past and now is beyond belief.Firstly nearly all news seems in favour of Israel,a soldier has been abducted I hear ! What about all the dead children, people, imagine for one moment your own country is invaded your family killed, your land stolen and you have no rights.Imagine the pain and the despair yet all we hear is Israel has a right to defend themselves. What about the right of the Palestinian, what about international law that Israel does not comply with. What about the thousands of prisoners held by Israel it is against humanity to torture and for any government to implement that says what about them.I am sick to death of the injustice and one sided media coverage and I thought the UN was made to keep peace.

Great, have the Palestiniens recognize the state of Israel, establish the borders as proposed by Israel and there will be peace. It truely is as simple as that. But until the death to Israel mantra ends Israel will continue to defend itself the same as any other nation would given the same circumstances.

I do not agree with the stance the Hamas and Palestine took on the whole issue. If you do not want the horns, do not mess with the bull. The hamas have been very unreasonable and the people of Palestine have been backing them up. The Hamas have taken so much from their people; using all Isreals funding to fund their tunnels and their rockets instead of creating jobs, and giving it to the poor and hungry.

Sadly, the citizens of Palestine have been paying a deadly price, and my heart does go out to the families. I believe the people of Arabia should be protesting against the Hamas, not Isreal.

Reality check. There never has been a "Palestine" as in a formal nation. It has always been occupied by invaders: ancient Egypt, Assyria, Babylon in ancient times. Lebanon, Syria, and other states before the creation of the Israeli state. But I keep praying for peace between Palestinians and Israelis that they might make a unified front to broker peace throughout the Middle East and thus bless that region with amazing prosperity as tourism soars as a result.

Unfortunately they should be protesting and denouncing Hamas instead.....those cowards launch missles from neighborhoods...and stir the pot every time!!! Israel is being more surgical with the ground offensive for the very reason of so many innocents being killed.

There's no bigger friend of the U.S. in that part of the world than Israel. Here's hoping Israel eliminates all Israeli & U.S enemies over there and that the Arab people wake up and get a more peaceful and not war mongering leadership.

I don't think you really know what is going on in gaza, west bank etc ect.The Israelies are the invading force killing, torturing taking peoples land and rights in there own land.Ask yourself what you would do if all your family was killed, your land invaded and stolen, all against international law I might add.Think of the despair and ask yourself what you would if all the above happened to you.

@jillbabe People advocating an end to civilian death are radicals to you?

Do you have the slightest idea what a "radical" is or what is actually going on in Israel/Palestine?

@robincook Did anyone put you in shackles and have you work the cotton fields? No, because that is absolutely moronic. People are people. There's good ones and bad ones for every demographic and generalizations like these are what lead to so much conflict and hate in the first place.

thank you BPhood, yes I am fucken scared of the muslim radicals coming over like an epidemic from overseas. Have you seen what's happening in France and the UK??? The muslim ghettos have been terrorizing the citizens there. They go there, set up their own "towns", take advantage of all the resources and whine if they are not allowed to do things that are illegal....like honor killings. Sorry, but I am scared.
