Well, at least he stopped driving.

ORIGINAL POST, JULY 18, 6:30 A.M.: The Irvine Police Department holds a sobriety checkpoint from 8 tonight through 2 a.m. Saturday. Where? Read on ...

It will be in the area of Jeffrey Road and Alton Parkway, according to the department, which informs residents and visitors to expect more checkpoints through the end of the year.

"Most motorists will experience little delay, if any at all," the cops swear.

Meanwhile, the Orange County Sheriff's Department has announced "saturation patrols" from 7 tonight through 3 a.m. Saturday in its contract cities of Stanton, Yorba Linda and Villa Park.

These patrols put extra deputies on streets with high frequencies of DUI collisions and/or arrests.

Both the city and county operations are funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

UPDATE, JULY 21, 3:02 P.M.: The Irvine Police Department today announced 604 vehicles were stopped at Friday night's checkpoint at Jeffrey and Alton.

Four drivers were given sobriety tests, two were arrested on suspicion of drunken or drug-impaired driving and 22 various citations were issued, according to police Sgt. Matt August.

Thanks for the heads up. Some humans are ungrateful for the effort that one human makes trying to help another.

They have to do this. I forget the exact details but in a nutshell sometime ago a drunk driving conviction was overturned and it became law that these checkpoints had to have public announcement before they can be done. The OC weekly is doing a service for the Irvine police dept. by honoring their request to give notice to the public. If you are mad about it yell at the  police departments for announcing them. So don't go calling Matt Coker an idiot for this. That's just not fair. If you want to criticize Coker do it for his spelling errors. But not this. :o)
