ORIGINAL POST, JUNE 30, 9:55 A.M.: A "disturbance" call at a Ladera Ranch condominium complex Sunday night ended with a man being shot by an Orange County sheriff's deputy.

The man was taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, where his condition is unknown.

The deputy was not injured in the shooting that happened just before 10:30 p.m. at the Covenant Hills Sansovino condos in the 100 block of Sansovino, according to Lt. Jeff Hallock, the sheriff's spokesman.

Neighbors told a news videographer who arrived at the scene that they heard a couple arguing in the unit before deputies arrived.

After deputies arrived, they reported hearing someone shouting, "Put the gun down! Put the gun down!" followed by the sound of three gun shots.

The shooting is under investigation, Hallock told City News Service.

UPDATE, JUNE 30, 6:34 P.M.: The man who was shot Sunday night has been identified as Shaun Bradley Paquette, 29, of Ladera Ranch.

Paquette left the hospital for jail, after his arrest on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, battery against a spouse and child endangerment charges. He was booked into Orange County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

The Orange County District Attorney's office is investigating the officer-involved shooting.

I cant believe anyone thinks a cop wouldnt shoot a person with no gun, um lets see, why dont any doubters google "cops shoot unarmed man". I guarantee the result will be astounding. Your skewed perception makes me doubt your level of intelligence, and clearly indicates youre bias to law enorcement, probably a cop.

This story in the OC Register says that there was no gun found. Did this deputy shoot an un armed man?

So our soldiers at war can't shoot unless fired upon but our police officers on the home front can shoot civilians without being shot at. This seems ass backwards. I feel sorry for his kiddo

Sunday night is always a popular night for domestic incidents. Couples are usually sick of each other on Sunday after a long weekend, add a few beers and the fireworks begin.

Ladera is a sardine can. The homes in some parts of that community are scrunched together. There has to be environmentally induced tension.

@paullucas714

They'll just say..."it looked like he was reaching for a weapon..."

While I have trouble feeling sympathy for someone who is abusive to their spouse and children if the deputy didn't need to shoot him they shouldn't have done so.

Seems like in the OC any failure to comply immediately with a police officer's demands is like signing your own death warrant.

@fishwithoutbicycle @paullucas714 A) I doubt any cop would shoot someone for no reason at all, B) Who is dumb enough to do ANYTHING besides submit to the officer's commands to raise his hands or otherwise take a submissive position? What are the odds the cop DIDN'T command him to raise his hands prior to the shooting?
