Gustavo's Latest KCRW "Orange County Line": On the OC GOP's Diversity Efforts!

OC GOP claims they're no longer the party of this--hmm...
It is downright laughable to see how the OC GOP--long openly mocking diversity efforts by liberals as Thought Police pandering--turn downright Aztlanista in pushing minority candidates down the throat of OC voters for the coming June primary. From the assembly districts (Korean Young Kim running against Sharon Quirk-Silva to Salvi Ceci Iglesias running against Tom Daly) to the State Senate (Vietnamese Janet Nguyen running against Jose Solorio) to the Board of Supervisors (Korean Michelle Steel), the GOP's slate sounds like a UCI diversity panel hijacked by rightwing lunatics. That was the subject of my weekly "Orange County Line" commentary for KCRW-FM 89.9 this past Monday.

What I didn't point out was the OC GOP has always had its tokens--longtime GOP chair Tom Fuentes, Vietnamese candidates, maybe even a black guy one year--but this push represents the last gasp of Republicans to be relevant in majority-minority OC. Enjoy!

Koreans and Vietnamese have traditionally voted republican. There was the Korea congressman from Diamond bar way back.  Of course, California had SI Hayakawa (Republican) as senator too.

He's donated to both sides. So his political standing has no merit here. And the article said, if you read it, he hasn't donated to the Democratic party in nearly 20 years.

They embrace it as long as minorities conform to their rules and worldview. The GOP despises multiculturalism and I understand why but do not agree with their vision.

Hate to break it to you but he may be a "registered rep" but hes only donated to Dems. Nice try though

I think its a testament to a party that believes in rewarding hard work regardless of your ethnicity... When someone other than a white person succedes and is a Republican the Democrats try and cheapen their accomplishment by trying to smear them as a "Token" a "Turn Coat' or an "Uncle Tom".

But why? Why do democrats hate on succesful republican minorities? Simply put if your a successful minority (Who's Republican) then you are breaking the liberal mantra that minorities cant succeed or get ahead in life without the liberal elites giving you things and holding the dastartly republicans who want to eat your children at bay. Or in public school terms "Youre destined to be a loser so dont bother trying and if you stick with us we'll give  you free shit"

The party of diversity and tolerance again shows its colors by hating on anyone that they cant clasify as a grumpy white crumudgeon... Whos the racists now?

WTF is this shit? Tired of liberals always talking about race and claiming "Republicans are racist" when all you see day in and day out are Democrats being racist (i.e. Sterling). Ppl aren't falling for it anymore.

Maybe the Democrat Sterling can be used as the tolerance example. Racism and ignorance is everywhere (general labeling). Hopefully, one day it will be eliminated.

Oh Hell No... Because while it has come out that Sterling is a registered republican he only donated to democrat candidates and gave to charities with liberal leanings... He may wear an R but follow the money...
