Gustavo's Latest KCRW "Orange County Line": On the Push for an OC Military Cemetery

As a proud UCLA alum, I always knew I was almost on campus whenever I'd pass the awe-inspiring Los Angeles National Cemetery near Westwood, especially come Memorial Day or Fourth of July weekend. It's a bit of cosmic irony, of course, that the muy muy liberal Westside has this ultimate testament to patriotism and the call of duty, while muy muy conservative Orange County has never had a vet's cemetery. That may change if Fullerton-area Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva's efforts to help military vets establish one in OC--probably at the Great Park--become successful, a push I talked about in my "Orange County Line" commentary this past Monday for KCRW-FM 89.9.

That would be wonderful. My 20 year old nephew is buried in Riverside. He died serving in Afghanistan, April 2012.

It would be wonderful to have a place for Orange County Vets to be buried. A place where the Great Park is would work.

This is certainly a worthwhile project I certainly expect/hope that Quirk-Silva (I always want to call her Quicksilver) shouldn't have any problem finding bipartisan support for.

That would be cool.  Right now these vets get buried out in SB.
