Santa Ana Holds Checkpoint Saturday Night

Categories: DUI-yi-yi

This just in:

The Santa Ana Police Department is conducting a DUI checkpoint from 9 p.m. Saturday through 3 a.m. Sunday.

Near the 2400 block of W. Fifth St., silly, where else?

Actually, isn't that close to the Goodwill Store where I take my tax-deductible charitable items? Or is it a few blocks from there? The 2400 block sounds familiar.

Santa Ana cops say they are doing this because such ops deter drunken driving. It's funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

I know someone who was recently charged with DUI for 0.04%. That was literally one beer two hours earlier, with a meal. Cops can now pretend you're "impaired" and charge you with even this negligible amount of alcohol in your system. DUI laws and enforcement is just another money-maker for cops. EFFECTIVE enforcement would target drivers driving aggressively or recklessly, not sober individuals with trace alcohol levels. Be careful - they need to make their quotas.

It's how they get past the 4th Ammendment violations. These checkpoints don't work. They are overtime opportunities for cops.

I don't GET the logic of broadcasting the location. Shouldn't it be a surprise? To actually CATCH some drunks.
