Dirty Ex-Cop Jay Cicinelli Has a New Job: Little League Baseball Coach!

Cicinelli's life in freedom

Former Fullerton cop Manuel Ramos was outed last week as a PONY League coach in the city, but apparently he's not alone. Jay Cicinelli, Ramos' fellow FPD-er who, in his own words, took the face of Kelly Thomas one July night in 2011 and "just smashed it to hell," is also coaching youth baseball--in La Mirada.

The thought of Cicinelli serving as a role model to kids through sports was just too much for one member of Kelly's Army. Richard Dwyer decided to head out to La Mirada Little League's Opening Day this weekend to snap a pic of the killer cop himself.

All the Little League teams gathered on Saturday Sunday at Behringer Park in La Mirada reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and engaging in other ceremonial activities. Cicinelli was spotted away from kids as Dwyer walked up to take a picture with his cellphone. "He was sporting a beard," the Fullerton activist recounts. Gone was the clean-shaven look Cicinelli had during the Kelly Thomas murder trial--legal proceedings that bothered him so little that he partied it up at Knott's Berry Farm while facing involuntary manslaughter and excessive force charges.

"Hey, you can't take my picture!" Cicinelli said, according to Dwyer. The activist countered by replying it was a public space.

Being it was opening day, La Mirada Little League board members were on the field, too. One vouched for Cicinelli to Dwyer, saying that he has been coaching for eight years without incident. Another board member was less generous, kicking Dwyer off the field. He left voluntarily, but was followed all the way. "He just put the cold shoulder on and stared at me as if I was going to be a problem," the activist says. With that, Dwyer left, already having what he came for.

Like Mike Silva of Fullerton PONY League, the Weekly reached out to La Mirada Little League President Aaron Abler for comment about having an ex-Fullerton killer cop in the dugout. Like Silva, as of press time, we haven't received a response.

No word yet either on Cicinelli's coaching style. What does he tell youngsters who lay off a pitch outside the strike zone? Good eye?

yeah and those people are so stupid well he been teaching kids for 8 years and nothing has happened.  That picture shows a worried face like i will never be able to live an annmous life let them see the video and pictures of Kelly Thomas face and coroner reports stating those two police officers killed Kelly from not being able to breath as Kelly screamed for minutes he couldn't breath.  The best part is that nobody there no longer police which really to me makes me feel really good. Cause it shows how they really are and no cop uniform to take away what they are. Creeps bad guys, that used their authority and knowledge kely was mentally ill to kill him.

Kelly Thomas screamed "help me God" 26 times while he was beaten to death by the Fullerton PD.  Jay Cicinelli brags "I beat his face to hell" as he used the butt of his taser revolver against the space in between Kelly's eye's.

Jay teaches Sunday School and also coaches little league where all of the children are seeking moral imperatives to help guide them through life.  If these parents feel comfortable with this man shepherding their sons and daughters through these formative years than that's there own decision.

What Mr. Dwyer has done has simply made these parents aware of who the respective leagues have selected to do so.

As a parent I applaud his actions.

NOTE TO EDITOR:The “Good eye?” comment appears to be pun at a person’s disability. What are you thinking? Quite bold to attack a disability under the 1st Amendment Right to Freedom of Speech. Apparently, you have no regard for the American Disabilities Act. Or, maybe it does not apply to news organizations. I don’t know. It is bad enough riding on the backs or kids to get at someone, but the inflection towards blindness really makes your paper, writer, and editor repulsive. Learn to be responsible. An honest journalist would be. Yes, this is a commentary.

I really wonder when OC Weekly can get their head from behind regarding their obsession about Manuel and Jay? Also, I wonder if Fullerton PD Union, Jay and Manuel have contacted the OC Weekly. This really needs to stop inciting violence against the officers. The news article is really seeking a lawsuit. Justice has been served in a court and order. Let it go and let it be.

OC WEEKLY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THIS STORY.  This is not news.  It is a one side biased piece of propaganda against Cicinelli at the cost of children. Just take a look at the spin put on the story with, "he partied it up and Knott's Berry Farm." No one goes to Knott's Berry Farm to "party it up."  Most of the comments hear sound like a bunch of kid haters who are ruthless, inconsiderate, and a bunch of cowards. Not cool to choose a little league ball field with kids to obstruct their peace and fun to push an adult agenda.  I am no Cicinelli supporter, but in my opinion the ones who chose this venue to speak out against Cicinelli are evil.  Let the kids, "PLAY BALL."  The right parent support and kids can judge Cicinelli for themselves and make up their own minds.Way to go, “OC Weekly.”

Way to go OC Weekly....I got an idea...let's go to some of his Little League games and carry signs and yell things...That should shake up the kids on his team...heck, the kids all the teams, and then he'll have to quit, and all the kids will be without a coach, and have to go home, and cry!!! (sarcasm)

Compare Jay to my Italian American WW2 hero Rockwell engineer boss who also coached South Anaheim little league and held season tickets to the Angel's game for 40 years. This Latino man worked for Steve when Mafia Trash Incorporated Orange County law enforcement decided in their infinite criminal stupidity to treat me like a gang member. Perhaps in an attempt to harm this quality white American man's company.

Contrast and compare.

@znews4u  OC Weekly has, and always has been at "alt-weekly" magazine. When you read any Weekly publication you're going to get more opinion and sometimes crude writing. It's just the nature of what we do. That being said, we in no way endorse making fun of someone's disabilities - in fact, that's the kind of issue we report on. We're all for minorities and outsiders. However, when someone commits a horrendous crime all bets are off. Kill a defenseless human and we're going to take any stabs at you that we can. We were hurt over what happened to Kelly, and still are, especially when it comes to the verdict; it's part of a coping mechanism for us and many members of the community.

@znews4u How does he keep the sun out of his eye? How does he get a driver's license, when they tell him to cover his eye and read the chart? Does he like black eye peas? Can he go cross eye?

@znews4u You have a hard time articulating your thoughts, don't you? That's ok though. I believe I understand what you're trying to convey. I think an overly sensitive type like yourself should avoid reading the OC Weekly. You're probably better suited to tamer publications like the OC Register. It's funny that you're horribly offended over cracks about Cicinelli's cyclopes like appearence, yet you seem to have no problem with Jay beating to death a homeless man with mental disabilities who had committed no crime. Your priorities are just a tad bit twisted.

LPHastings

@FFO1939  Wow, really? What if someone murdered your son and then got to walk around a free man in your city? Would you just get over it? These articles are not inciting violence against officers - they're ensuring that we never forget. And hell, if enough pressure pushes Ramos and Cicinelli out of Fullerton and Orange County, then that's awesome too. They're not welcome here.

roman_archer
roman_archer

@ffo1939 "justice has been served in a court and order"? "this really needs to stop inciting violence against the officers"? Anyone else notice the complete lack of intelligence from Jay and Mannys supporters? Can't you people compose at least one sentence that makes sense? If Jay and Manny can't take the heat, they shouldn't have committed the crime. Murderers should be in jail. And at the very least they should be completely ostrisized from society. You feel that way about OJ Simpson, why not Jay and Manny?

hitman_martinelli
hitman_martinelli

@znews4u You got it backwards!! It's our concern for the kids not to have a role model who was witnessed beating a homeless man and bragging about it afterwards!!

As an ex-coach and still a player of the great game of baseball? I want all kids to get out there and have a great life of sports! But a person who did what Ramos and Cincinelli did doesn't deserve the wonderful privilege of coaching our kids!!

They are using the kids for their redemption when in reality they should be doing volunteer work at a homeless shelter!! Learn to love the unfortunates, not hate them for it!!

@znews4u Nobody goes to Knotts Berry Farm to party it up? You've obviously never been to the Haunted Halloween festivities have you? And speaking of Haunted Halloween, I bet Knotts could hire Cicinelli as one of the monsters. He wouldn't even need any make-up!

@hitman_martinelli  exactly! i cared for people who suffered from traumatic brain injuries. my training was extensive to ensure that they did not injure themselves or anyone else by physically restraining them. this has to be done frequently. you would think that FPD would offer similar training... and perhaps they did. can't fix stupid and obviously stupid is a trademark for FPD from the top to the bottom. my point is that if indeed ramos or joe needed to subdue Kelly, it could have been easily attainable without force and Kelly would not have had to suffer by the hands of these monsters. blood will forever be on the hands of everyone that made a choice to not act.. from the cops to the dispatch who sat and watched it all as it was happening and didn't intervene by sending a sane person to the scene to the bystanders who stood and watched to the crooked lawyers and the scam jury... they ALL hold a responsibility. unfortunately, Kelly had to pay. police are people, do not fear them. arm yourselves and stay safe out there!

@roman_archerThe death of Thomas is horrible incident.  It is your ASSumption (one of many) that I have no problem with his tragic death.  You characterize my priorities as "twisted." Rather be twisted than IGNORANT.  I enjoy reading those ignorant comments too.  Feel free to reveal more about yourself, so we can all get to know you better.  Or, more like, ignore you. (my sensitive side :)

@LPHastings @roman_archer, I agree with you two!! OC Weekly must never stop publishing every move those two murderers make!!

What amazes me is that there are any supporters for these guys! Are they really ok what they witnessed on the video??

These cops showed the same hate for kelly that night that Hitler showed for 6 million jews around 70 years ago and we still are reminded of it! We have to, It's about staying aware so history doesn't repeat itself! We have to let law enforcement know if you commit a crime and get away with it we won't go away!!

We won't let you forget what you did!!!

@timothynoble41: He was with LAPD when he got his eye shot out by an armed run-away suspect in 1996 or 1997. LAPD deemed at that point he was unfit for the job and released him with a $40,000/yr Disability pension. A former LAPD captain Pat McKinley who became Chief of Police of Fullerton in 1993 did a favor to one of Cicinelli's former bosses at LAPD and hired him anyways, with the knowledge of his disabled eye. He was still collecting his LAPD pension while collecting his fat salary from FPD up until he was let go in September 2011.

If you look at the bloody-faced photo of Kelly Thomas, you will see that Cici, knocked out his Left eye, the same one that Cicinelli lost. I think you maybe right about him holding a grudge against the general public. In this case it would appear he wanted 'an eye for an eye'.

timothynoble41
timothynoble41

@risinwind70 That's a good question. Also, I heard that he lost his eye when he got it shot out by a suspect several years before. I'm only speculating, but he should have been put behind a desk at that point because he probably had a grudge against the general public after that.
