The Garden Grove Police Department is holding a DUI checkpoint from 9 p.m. Saturday through 3 a.m. Sunday in the area of Chapman and Loara.

Letting the public know ahead of time where the operation will be run is not the only thing unusual about this DUI/drivers license checkpoint: It is being staged in memory of Allison Saliture.

On March 26, 1994, then-16-year-old Saliture was driving on Valley View Street with a friend when a drunken driver struck her vehicle. The DUI driver was a 19-year-old woman who'd been served 15 beers at a bar before climbing behind the wheel.

Saliture died several days later from her injuries, and her mother, Haze Saliture, went on to become a Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) volunteer.

Haze Saliture has volunteered at every Garden Grove DUI checkpoint for the past 10 years, according to the department, which notes this is the 20th anniversary of her daughter's passing.

exactly…the only revenue if any derived from it is people that get busted for being over the limit. so screw those a-holes that drink and drive…I'm glad they get busted.

For whatever reason....keep the drunks off the road--save their lives & the lives of others!

This supposed concern for safety doesn't match Orange County, CA law enforcement's relentless sick habit of harassing targets while they are driving. Shout out to the Orange County, CA police helicopter divisions.

Fun fact: it was an extremely low flying police helicopter flying along my driver side that originally caught my attention and made me realize I was a target of OC law enforcement. Apparently, when you are not looking over your shoulder due to no participation in criminal activity the leadership brilliance of Orange County, CA needs to pull dramatic shock and awe tax wasting stunts such as this to get you in the terror loop.

I love this argument. So what if they make revenue? Hmmmm if people DIDN'T DRINK AND DRIVE would this even be necessary. I don't suppose DEATH plays into account here....nope!! It's STRICTLY for money!

Or held for revenue enhancement. How ever you want to perceive it...

@18usc241 If you're so mistreated here in OC, why don't you move?  You'd be happier as would we all.

And let Stan Knee, Brad Gates, Randall Gaston's groupies now in the leadership structure of Anaheim PD, the California Highway patrol, FBI Hoover wannabes etc get away with what was done to me? Let a group of Hoover era like trash walk away as if they are pillars of integrity instead of heinous life destroyers and attempted murderers or their aiders and abettors?

No. This county and this country deserve better.
