Ashton Colby Sachs, Alleged Killer of Parents, Paralyzed Brother and Tried to Shoot Sister: DA

See Update No. 2 one Page 2 with the charges against Ashton Sachs and details on other family members the DA says he targeted. Update No. 1 on the next page identifies Sachs as the only suspect in his parents' murders.

Andra and Bradford Sachs, R.I.P.
ORIGINAL POST, MARCH 7, 12:47 P.M.: The 19-year-old son of a divorced couple found dead in their San Juan Capistrano home in the early morning hours of Feb. 9 is behind bars today in connection with the fatal shootings, according to a broadcast report.

Bradford Hans Sachs and Andra Resa Sachs Were Killed But SJC is Safe, Stress Deputies

The Orange County Sheriff's Department had previously announced Sheriff Sandra Hutchens and investigators into the double homicide "will announce updated information" at 1 p.m. today in Santa Ana.

But KNBC4 reports today that Ashton Sachs was arrested Thursday after being questioned by sheriff's investigators.

An "unknown trouble" call to dispatchers shortly before 2 a.m. Feb. 9 led to a hillside home in the 32000 block of Peppertree Bend and the discovery of two bodies. Neighbors identified them as Brad and Andra Sachs, a divorced couple who still resided together in the home. Authorities later confirmed it was Bradford Hans Sachs, 57, and his ex-wife, Andra Resa Sachs, 54.

The couple's 8-year-old son was taken to Mission Hospital from the 9,600-square-foot home for treatment of serious injuries. The couple's high school-age teen daughters were home when first responders arrived, but they were unharmed and one of them may have placed the initial 9-1-1 call. The Sachs' two sons were said at the time to be away at college.

The double homicide spooked the upscale neighborhood, but while sheriff's officials said the deaths did not appear to be part of a murder-suicide they believed the violence was confined to the home and nearby residents were not in danger.

A security code was needed to enter the Sachs' home, but there were no signs of forced entry, officials added.

UPDATE NO. 1, MARCH 7, 1:19 P.M.: Orange County sheriff's homicide investigators worked the San Juan Capistrano double homicide case hard since the bodies were discovered, but it became clear quite early that Ashton Colby Sachs was the lone suspect in the fatal shootings of his parents, according to the lead investigator.

Sheriff Sandra Hutchens is so confident of that she introduced Agent Justin Montano at a just-concluded press conference by saying he would discuss "the successful conclusion" of the murder case. Montano would go on to qualify that this is an ongoing investigation and Sachs "is the only suspect right now."

Sachs, who had been living in Seattle, was interviewed at the home of relatives in San Diego County and later the sheriff's office Orange County, where he was placed under arrest, Montano said.

A weapon has been recovered, the investigator added, but a motive remains unknown.

The young man is being held without bail in Orange County Jail on murder charges, according to sheriff's officials.

He "was not residing at the residence on Peppertree Bend at the time of the murder," reads a statement from the agency. "Ashton is a college student in the state of Washington and has resided in the Seattle area since the fall of 2013."

Sachs is due in court Monday.

My theory is he went after the parents and the two adoptees. He never bought into the adoption thing and especially since his parents had gone through the divorce and they adopted after the divorce, he was angry (and possibly there was some shame involved).

There have been some interesting comments about the parents, they seemed a little shady.  I wonder what the son's motive was?  At first I thought inheritance, but now I'm thinking he's just plain crazy!

I asked my pastor what my opinion should be about this. He told me I should think this was a horrible act even though in the Bible it says "Children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death." Mark 13:12

So, that's what I think and that is my opinion.

"The OCDA also reveals Sachs is eligible for the death penalty."

Like THAT will ever happen.

obviously seriously disturbed. Wonder why he didn't take aim at his sisters. Probably some sexual abuse by the father and he feel that the mother knew about it allowed it and he probably shot at his little brother because he wasn't abused and has resentment that he was singled out.  Wow!! Did I just say that. Must have some onsite or a really twisted imagination!!!

So they basically knew all along, since the sister could i.d. him. Not surprising, it made no sense the two girls were there the whole time and didn't know who had come to the house.

@vegandawg23, because he was for gays having equal rights, he lacks a grasp on reality? Pot calling kettle black. Just crazy.

Jeez.. what the hell is going on with the youth? Was it always like this and just never sensationalized like today's media is wont to do?

Dang, he seems like a bit of a weirdo from his facebook page. His only jobs seems to have been at that creepy Pageant of the Masters and some video game store. He was a Red Hot Chili Peppers fan and his likes include such gems as "not being stabbed repeatedly by murderous clowns while on fire" and "not being on fire" and "No on Prop 8". Quite telling of his grasp on reality. I doubt this had anything to do with inheritance. Just crazy.

Figured that from when the story broke. It's always one of the college aged kids "away at school". I watch my ID.

Should have started with himself first. I feel so bad for the family...especially the paralyzed little brother.

You had your 401(k) all or majorly invested in one company? Nobody is ever supposed to do that.

Did he shoot only at the two kids that were adopted? I know the 8-year old was.  It may be rooted in jealousy/anger over his parents adopting the two kids  after they had already had 3 (and had already divorced).  Maybe god was telling him to do it.?

@rainbowunicorn Was a joke. So was the red hot chili peppers. The rest of it I was serious. I don't particularly like most gays and think a community should decide their own standards and I don't believe in imposing mine on a community (actually be fine with government getting out of marriage altogether and it being up to a church or whatever and if your religion allows you to marry another guy then go for it) but will vote with my feet and move to whereever suits me best. But I don't think people who believe in "equal" rights are mentally disturbed. We just see things a little differently is all. Go to his facebook page and see for yourself. Search for Ashton Sachs.

No that's because people do not believe is chastising and spanking children anymore... they give them "options," and society sensationalizes children going against parents (divorcing parents) and children no longer respect parents, authority, etc., because they feel like they have the "right," to do whatever they want.... truly a sad day when a child murders their parents.

@vegandawg23  Not "crazy," given the perception that his life was above others because he was FORTUNATE and therefore he had no ambition to be anyone or to do anything. Very unfortunate.
