Addie Vincent, Transgender Entrant in Pageant at Chapman University, is Miss Congeniality

Addie Vincent not only made history as the first transgender contestant in an all-female pageant at Chapman University, she walked away with a title.

No, she was not named Delta Tau Delta fraternity's Miss Delta Queen, but the 21-year-old senior was named Miss Congeniality.

In yer face, Sandra Bullock!

Addie Vincent is Poised to Make History as Transgender Contestant in Chapman Pageant

The honor came Wednesday night in Memorial Hall on the Orange campus, where Delta Tau Delta has held the Greek system-wide Delta Queen pageant since 2008 to raises funds and awareness for the Beckstrand Cancer Association, a Newport Beach-based nonprofit that improves the lives of cancer patients and their families.

Vincent, a Canadian-born, Michigan-raised Peace Studies major, had previously told the Weekly she prepared for three months to be Alpha Delta Phi fraternity's Delta Queen contestant. That preparation included bracing herself for a backlash.

But she was greeted at the pageant with supportive hoots and hollers, and after reading an original poem describing hardships endured by transgender people, Vincent was honored as Miss Congeniality.

"Tonight was so awesome," she reportedly told the Orange County Register afterward. "The fact that I was just able to compete was so amazing on its own."

Masculinity is funny, y'all wanna act like femininity is weakness yet it's so fragile it shatters at the very SUGGESTION of femininity. It's such a sad, empty way to live as your gender. Cis men like you ain't shit.

Awe, the tranny got a pity win. Im so tired of people calling men who dress like women anything but a man. gender dysmorphic disorder is a mental illness, so it is all well and good to make It clear that worshiping mentally ill transvestites makes you just as sick as them.

What is it about straight people that bring out the 'internalized homophobia' comments? Homophobia isn't the same as transphobia but thanks for playing. Especially since the two intersect, as you can be gay and trans.

Gary is just jealous he can't look as cute in that top as she does. Get right with the Lord, Gary.

She's beautiful. Shame on you bigoted closed minded fuckwits dissing her. You couldn't even get into Chapman primary school, let alone get a college degree.

It's nice she's getting a lot of support at Chapman, a place you might not expect to be supportive. Kids today are just over the whole homophobia/gender hysteria thing.

Well this will bring out all the closeted right wingers. Why is it that conservatives think about gay sex more than gay people?

Competing in a beauty pageant is in some way progressive??

Pedantically speaking, it's not really an "all-female" beauty pageant, is it?  (Not trying to be inflammatory, seriously.)

Congratulations...you're a finalist for Ignoramus Of The Year. What a loathsome excuse for a human being you are.

@20ftjesus

Depends on how you define "female". I personally believe what comprises most of a person's gender is arbitrary societal conditioning not physiology. If Addie identifies as a woman then she is.

@fishwithoutbicycle  I agree 100% which is why I call Bradley Manning, "she" and "Chelsea", but perhaps it would have been better to call it a "beauty pageant" and allow male and female to participate?  (I guess I'm looking at it from the pov of a spectator versus a contestant.)

@20ftjesus

I'm in favor of phasing out these kinds of pageants altogether...at least one's that pay lip service to inner beauty while sizing up contestants like they were sides of beef. I sure you can imagine how hard I laughed when a promoter of the Miss American pageant said the swimsuit portion of the competition was necessary to show a contestant's "physical fitness"...yeah, I'm sure that's the ONLY reason. ;-)
