Gustavo's Latest KCRW "Orange County Line": On Santa Ana Trying to Tell the World It's Safe After Kim Pham's Murder

crosby_victim_beating.jpg
Kim's killers are still at large; please call the above numbers with any info
The strangest reaction so far to the Kim Pham killing happened at a press conference last week, when Santa Ana Police Department Chief Carlos Rojas and Mayor-for-Life Don Papi Pulido both took time out from a murder investigation to tell the world that the city's downtown is safe. Pretty damn callous to care about a city's reputation in the middle of such a tragedy, ¿qué no?

But while I don't agree with their timing, I do agree with the sentiment--and, more than anything, I completely understand where they're coming from. That was the subject of my KCRW-FM 89.9 "Orange County Line" commentary yesterday.

Enjoy!

there's not gonna be any fucking "street justice"  you guys watch too many movies.  this little girl is not connected and nobody is gonna avenge her death.  there's gonna be a trial maybe, and they might get convicted of involuntary manslaughter at most and they are gonna be free to collect welfare and use their EBT cards when they get out of the joint in 3 years.

Never got the impression that Santa Ana was any more or less safe than any other area around there. Anaheim, Buena Park, Orange, Santa Ana, all pretty much the same. Also if her friends won't "snitch" and cooperate with the police in order to help their dead friend then that makes them not too different from the mexicans who beat her down doesn't it gustavoworksfortacos.

Why are you saying Santa Ana like that?

santa ana always had its problems but the fact the people are saying its not safe cause of the beating is ignorant!

before they made santa ana the "it" spot" for the young people to hang out and drink....you would hardly saw anything in the news about santa ana.

it was better before downtown was made into such a mess thanks to the mayor.

While the shooting is not indicative of the violence downtown, it is a mess.  Walk around the Yost or over by Bistro 400 and you'll see why residents are fed up with fighting, vomiting and urinating.  Downtown has been made into a playground for folks who want to behave badly (but not in their own cities) while families remain unwelcome.  It's a sad state of affairs and it is dishonest for the Mayor to say there is not problem.

lol.. santa ana is a shit hole just like the shit hole country they ran away from... just nuke that city and make it a giant landfill... probably improve land values to the cities around it...

@vegandawg23 People are not getting it.  The "no talk" is indicative of something else...Street justice will happen.
