Sutra Lounge Attack Victim Talks of Being Stabbed and Hit with Bottles in Club: Update
See the update at the end of this post where one of those who claims he was attacked clarifies what happened inside the club.
A week after Kim Pham was beaten to death outside the Crosby in downtown Santa Ana, three men were beaten by three others outside Club Sutra in Costa Mesa, resulting in two victims going to the hospital.
This began around 3 a.m. Friday at the club in the Triangle at 1870 Harbor Blvd., when the trio was attacked by what police Sgt. S. Selinske only described as "male Asians who appeared to be in their early twenties."
Two of the victims were treated for non-life threatening injuries at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, Selinske added.
Anyone with information about the fight is asked to contact Detective R. Hanson at 714.754.5162 or Sgt. Ed Everett at 714.754.5395.
UPDATE, JAN. 30, 3:42 P.M.: A man who claims to have been one of those attacked at Sutra Lounge contacted the Weekly to clarify what happened early last Friday. We are withholding his name because he fears retribution.
He said the attack was not outside the Costa Mesa club but inside, and that four people were injured, not three. Besides one person treated at the scene and two who went to Western Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, a fourth man went to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, according to the witness, who added the innocent bystander "got bashed in the head and stabbed in the arm."
The witness described the group he was with as innocent bystanders as well, and he said as they were watching musical acts they were "hit by bottles and stabbed, not beaten."
He accused club security of not doing anything to stop the attack and even allowing the three attackers to leave.
The Weekly contacted the Costa Mesa Police Department to get confirmation of the witness' description of the events in the club. We were told to urge the witness to speak to them, something we passed along.
