Rick Warren Appears on CNN to Reaffirm that He's a Homo-Hater

rick-warren-shades150.jpg
Rick Warren is making the media rounds to promote a book on how to lose weight inspired by his Daniel Plan, the diet initiative that had half of South County laying off that last margarita in Javier's because the Bible tells you so. That meant he got a hour to himself on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight--and because Piers Morgan is the imp that he is, the Brit asked Warren if he's still against gay marriage in this day and age in changing societal views on the subject.

Unsurprisingly, Rick hasn't. But then he tried to engage in clever double-speak in trying to claim that he doesn't hate the gays because he's opposed to gay marriage--yet still revealed himself a homo-hater in the process.

"I'd like to reposition it this way," Warren told Morgan, when asked about marriage equality. "I'm more against the redefinition of the term marriage than anything else. I don't think other groups get the opportunity to redefine a term. For instance, if a Muslim says this is a term we use and all of the sudden I take that term and mean it for me, well, that's not right."

Of course it's right, Rick. You're advocating cultural imperialism, which went out of fashion around the time of World War I. Last time everyone check, gay marriage hasn't changed straight marriages.

Warren continued. "I think historically, around the world, the vast majority of people would say marriage means one man and one woman in a commitment. Don't take a term and and make it something different. Orwell talked about doublespeak, where words mean the exact opposite of what they used to mean."

And then Warren slipped into 1984, when he told Morgan "I fear the disapproval of God more than I fear your disapproval or the disapproval of society" just shortly after stating "It's not against the law for you to love anybody--a man or a woman." But it is against your law, Purpose-Driven® Rick--and your beloved Bible, according to your interpretation, would see LGBT folks off to the gas ovens. Wouldn't it be refreshing if Warren just stated this instead of tiptoeing through the tulips?

How does disagreeing make him a hater?

When ANYONE, Rick Warren included, says that they don't approve of, or "agree" with the idea of marriage equality, what you are saying is that you whole-heartedly believe that we should force an entire group of tax-paying Americans to live their lives as second class citizens. You are saying that you believe that these Americans don't deserve the same dignity, and constitutional rights that you demand and cherish for yourselves. How can any of you lemmings believe with any kind of intelligence that by expressing this ridiculous opinion politely that it somehow excuses the corrupt, immoral, self-righteous, HATE filled thought process behind it?! You can't have your cake and eat it too, dum-dum's!

Um, Who is this God person anyway?

God is an invisible spirit that cannot be seen by human eyes". - Jesus Christ

You are a human with human eyes therefore you cannot see God.

Did you know that Jesus was actually an AGNOSTIC and maybe not a Jew or would that mean an Agnostic Jew? - Agnostic means not all believing. He was crucified by the Jews but the Romans set it up.

Hey Fish: Everyone is a sinner, Jesus told everyone that there are none that are Righteous.

The bible is a very contentious books and document and there are missing books to it. Some of those missing book are to be found in the Nag Hammadi  Texts that were found at the end of World War 2.

"For everything that is said that is blasphemous against the spirit will be forgiven but if anything is said against the holy ghost that shall not be forgiven". - Jesus

"For all the people that teach in the synagogues (churches) and upon the streets are hypocrites for they like and even love to stand in those very places to pray out loud in order to garner attention to themselves, I tell you the truth for they have received their rewards in full". - Jesus

(and what does Rick Warren do as a profession, he is the pastor of a church and write books and appears on television as such) which has made him a lover of money.

Why is it that people accuse the people that use common sense by blaming them with having a mental illness when it's the leaders or supposed people in authority positions that are actually the real mentally ill ones?

Sodom and Gamorah were destroyed over gayness. Just remember that (with what some said was equivalent to a nuclear weapon.)

So why not bust him for hate crimes since he basically had his son commit suicide because his son told him he was gay. = Christian Hypocrite.

if you feel rick warren is so bad, your bigotry and overall sheer willingness to step into the realm of lunacy by way of your absurd statements paint you far worse than the person your actually judging. i mean you actually make nazi analogies so that just shows how clueless and desperate you are. and how can know for certain that he genuinely hates gays? you're just a sensationalist writer with no credible evidence to support your arguments so you distort the words of the person you're reporting to suit your agenda. and the same garbage inclination is apparent in your "ask a mexican" articles which only serve to further create division rather than unity; the latter is achieved throuh understanding and acceptance, and rational dialogue, not incessant accusations of racism, and condescending which is a trademark of yours. im convinced you have no real desire to see change for the good, that's why you create controvery when there is none so as to sell your chump story. you're a fucking tabloid writer lol.

Wow you're ignorant Gustavo! How do you know it is "clever double speak"???. Who are YOU to speak for someone else, you narrow minded hateful piece of shit! He was using the Muslim thing as an analogy and YOU skated around his point. Why? Because you know he's got a good point and you're too stubborn and moronic to accept this.

"Bankrupted" his church? I take it, then, that you have appropriated the word "bankrupt" for your own special meaning since he didn't really declare bankruptcy. What is it then that you meant? I attend that church and money is most certainly not something they are lacking. And, if it's not too much trouble, please tell me about your experience with Saddleback Church and what it is that makes you call them, or rather, us, a cult. Is it the part where my small bible study group went to the civic center at Thanksgiving and handed out blankets, jackets, and food to the homeless there? And since you are probably an upstanding person who likes to put her name on her claims, how about linking to the Prop 8 info that you base your claim on. Thanks.

its only a snipet what was said before? and what was said after? cant go by one persons opinion.. hmmm... are you hiding something? by the way he never stated he hates anyone!! you did!!! i will pray for you and that you can get the hate out of your heart!!

Rick Warren may not "hate" gays, but he certainly wants them to remain unhappy and live incomplete, unfulfilled lives until they die. That makes him a shitty excuse for a follower of Jesus.

FYI, anyone who believes the word and follows it, will be in stark contrast with this world. Doesn't mean you are suppose to do it with hate. Again no one is perfect. But I haven't heRd anything bad about the pastor.

Typical article by a hate-filled lefty, but a good example of their way of thinking; disagreement = hate.  This is the big divide between left and right.  The left thinks if you do not agree with them, then it is because you are evil, selfish, racist, hateful, etc.  For the most part, if the left disagrees with the right, the right just things you're wrong.

I didn't say he declared bankruptcy. He paid a lot of money towards Prop 8 & the cult was broke.

Its a real shame that you have no limits to your own hate, OC Weekly. This man is no TBN. This man is no Jerry Falwell, or Jim and Tammy Faye. This is no Scientology like cult. What this man and his wife do for this world is infinitely greater than what you sad OC Weekly people could ever provide. You really should spend some time involved with that church before you profess to know what it's about. The Bible states that homosexuality is a sin. Granted, that doesn't make it so, but for a man who has centered his life around God and that book, what other position should he take? I attend that church and never, in 15 years of doing so, have I heard him hate on gays. That is a topic that he deliberately avoids. It's not something that is addressed, ever, in his messages. He is trying to bring people together by focusing on things that do just that. Now if you want to hate on everything Christian like you do the police, white people, or people with money, fine. But don't try to pass it off like its something more than just hate based rhetoric. And from the responses I've read below, I think you underestimated how far down the vitriol path your readers will follow you. You are really off base when it comes to hating on this guy.

Can you elaborate on the circus? Please include your first hand experience with the church when you do, not a bunch of generic anti-Christian parrot talk.

Maria- Please provide a link to a story that supports your claim that his church declared bankruptcy. Until then you should stick to bad mouthing him with opinions. Opinions aren't libelous. Claiming that someone declared bankruptcy when they didn't is libelous.

It has being thre weeks since we ask the church to hel a woman in need no one answers the phone no one calls back there is no one on site to make an appointment... After several attempts no one has contact it yet...so why the Church offers help if they don't give any??? Can you ask Rick Warren why?

And thank you for bringing up an important point: why do some Christians believe they can use their freedom of religion to deny freedoms to others?

No arguments from me. No one is perfect ("Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"). I also agree that the Bible was arbitrarily constructed...so how could one know for sure what is truly "the word of God" and what is not?

@avsky321  And Adolf Hitler wanted to destroy the entire population of Germany because he thought they were an inferior race of people because he blamed them for losing the war when he invaded other countries and people tried to kill him for 25 years and were unable to yet he had 20,000 bodyguards surrounding the Berghoff and no one could understand how he managed to stay alive so long yet committed suicide after the Russians invaded. Some say that he was an Austrian Jew himself yet he genocided nearly an entire race of people that were like himself. He tried to rebuild Berlin Germany in his own image by destroying it.

See the documentary called Hitler's Bodyguard from the Military Channel.

No, I think he'd want them to get some psychological help and tap into their natural biological needs.

You know, someone could use that same same argument for the pedophiles. These are not natural or right behaviors. How dare you type out such a response. You need to sit down and re-evaluate your outlook and morals.

MJS562
MJS562

@FishWithoutBicycle Well he didn't say "murderers" and "pedophiles" either.

SickSnail
SickSnail

@FishWithoutBicycle Doesn't mean he didn't have a definition for right and wrong. Jesus loved everyone, including prostitutes and tax collectors. It doesn't mean that he approved of prostitution. Likewise, he can love the sinner and hate the sin.

FishWithoutBicycle
FishWithoutBicycle

In situations like these I find the zealots tend to ignore the words of Christ and cite a certain passage in the OLD TESTAMENT as justification for being bigots.

FishWithoutBicycle
FishWithoutBicycle

So, in your view, being gay is akin to being a murderer or a pedophile? Are you serious?!!

FishWithoutBicycle
FishWithoutBicycle

I agree with "loving the sinner and hating the sin"...but I don't believe that gay people are sinners. I'm not a Christian...I'm what they call an apostate. I am not looking at this issue through the clouded lens of religious dogma. I don't begrudge anyone their faith...but I take issue with those who feel they must play "morality police" and try to dictate how the rest of us live.
