Max Danilo Martinez Gets 66 Years for Rapes and Sex Assaults on 5 Females Over a Decade

Categories: Court, Crime-iny

A Corona man was sentenced today to 66 years to life in state prison for sexually assaulting five females over a decade, including raping 14- and 17-year-old girls after giving them alcohol. Max Danilo Martinez, 33, of Corona, had been found guilty by a jury in August of three felony counts of forcible rape, one felony count of sexual penetration by foreign object by force, one felony count of rape of an unconscious person, and sentencing enhancement allegations for sexual crimes against multiple victims.

Max Danilo Martinez Guilty of Rapes of 5 Teens and Young Women Over a 9-Year Span

Shannon Winston of the Orange County Public Defender's Office had argued Martinez was a roadside romeo who offered rides to teen girls and young women who all later lied about their "consensual" sexual encounters with the man.

But the jury bought the contention of Deputy District Attorney Jess Rodriguez: Martinez was a serial rapist who lured females who needed rides by playing "the role of the cool, older guy" who plied them with alcohol--and then raped or touched them sexually while they were drunk or passed out.

The first known attack was on May 6, 2000, when the 14-year-old girl was forcibly raped in Martinez's then-apartment in Orange. The last came on Dec. 1, 2009, when a 24-year-old woman was forcibly raped in the back of his van parked in Santa Ana. Other rapes or sexual assaulted by Martinez happened in Westminster, Orange again and Corona.

Santa Ana Police arrested Martinez on Dec. 7, 2009, after he was identified by his final victim. He was then linked to two other rapes through DNA evidence, and further police investigation led to Martinez being named the suspect in the remaining cases.

He must register as a sex offender for life.
