Civil Rights Groups, Pols Slam Bigoted Anaheim Gadfly--But Comparing Mexicans to Apes is OK to Them

archie_bunker.jpg
Not Fitzgerald, but you get the picture...
A week ago, longtime Anaheim crank William Denis Fitzgerald made waves during a special Anaheim city council meeting by lambasting councilman Jordan Brandman as representative of a small cabal of "evil" and "scheming" Jews, and topped it off by calling him "one very sick faggot."

Fitzgerald's homophobic slur at the end elicited immediate disapproval and disgust from the dais and the assembled public. Condemnations of Fitzgerald--Anaheim's version of Archie Bunker, who has also trashed Muslims and Vietnamese in the past--rightfully came swiftly from all corners, with the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Log Cabin Republicans and the Orange County Human Relations Commission issuing press releases decrying him. And, Anaheim politics being what they are today, Councilwoman Kris Murray and her lackeys at the blog headed by hack Matt Cunningham (who outed sex-abuse victims) are blaming Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait for Fitzgerald's rant. Murray appeared alongside Tait on PBS' SoCal Insider saying, "I think what's hardball is when we have the chambers filled with hate speech...That really is what should be the story, the presiding officer not taking action to stop what was some very clear, horrific things that were anti-Semitic."

What a pendeja--especially considering last year, one of Cunningham's frequent commentators was as racist toward Mexicans...yet nary a peep.

James Robert Reade has long launched his racist screeds--and only we have complained. His berating of bereaved Anaheim mothers who lost their sons in fatal officer-involved shootings landed him a spot on the Weekly's 'Scariest People' issue last year. He remains the only loser ever banned from commenting on our blogs--and you know how damn lenient we are.

During an April 2012 meeting of the Anaheim city council, Reade gave nasty comments comparing Mexicans to apes. "Bonobos in captivity have learned to use human language unlike Latino gang bangers and graffiti vandals who flunk out of Anaheim High School and use gang bang gibberish," he said. "Bonobo females migrate to other groups when they reach puberty eliminating the chance for incest and this increases genetic diversity whereas incest is prevalent among females and their Latino uncles."

He capped off the particularly rant that I described then as an "uninterrupted display that would make an early 20th century eugenicist blush," by likening council candidate John Leos to an "intellectually defunct" Latino.

Where was the chorus of condemnation then? Or ever, as Reade's screeds continue complete with mocking stereotypical accents? Oh, that's right. He lambasts Mexis and in OC that will only get you a chorus of crickets.

To be honest I found that a lot of Latino type groups focus on the wrong issues like what certain actresses portray in films and such instead of hitting the real issue which really makes me angry. Instead of worrying about how someone is acting they should be fighting back real issues rather than worrying about stereotypes on television. I gather that stereotypes is also an issue but calling out racism within your county, state, city whatever brings to light the real issues.

That gadfly can kiss our ass. We never left , we're not leaving and right now as we speak someone in his family is hard at work trying to make a beautiful baby. Ignorance is imbedded in the DNA of old republican , there's numerous studies that prove this. He can call us apes all he wants , apes have courage , that imbecile is an old mewling quim. No offense.

Watching the exchange on tape tonight, I thought the point of Kris Murray's rant on PBS was, once again, simply to smear Mayor Tate and divert attention from her and her council colleagues' utterly insane giveaway to Arte Moreno.

Great post, GSR.  I've recently written about the stunning lack of response, given the Council Majority's standards, to J.R. Reade -- who's stock in trade recently has been to express thanks in front of Theresa Smith and Donna Acevedo that their sons were shot by Anaheim police.  All of their statements should be scrutinized in that context.  (Video is available for those who want to see Reade at work.)

Another thing to note is that any three members of Council have had the ability to do whatever the Mayor doesn't in this respect.  They haven't probably because (except maybe for Eastman) they too know that, as they City Attorney told Mayor Tait each time he asked about it, they really can't proscribe anything but proscribed speech.  In the case of "responsibility for the Holocaust" nattering, it's even more protected than calling someone a homophobic slur, because that is EXPRESSLY political.  So if they've wanted something to happen all this time, they've had the ability to make it happen -- and didn't.  (Pringle, incidentally, just used to ignore Fitzgerald, not even jumping in and trying to restrain him as Tait did.  And Fitzgerald, for those who don't know, previously won a court case, represented by the ACLU, over similar free speech issues.)

There's a move afoot to change the subject from the economic pillaging of Anaheim for private gain to the deportment of critics.  The changes that Anaheim Council seek would probably keep me from speaking as well -- because you can't complain that someone in particular is ripping off city resources without getting "personal" in doing so, which is a violation of the rules.  That, as usual, is what this is about -- suppressing dissenting voices until the getaway car is gone.

The cities of Anaheim and Garden Grove are not in a moral position to be lecturing anyone on this planet about the harm of bigotry; allowing your police departments (with malice of forethought) to target and harm Hispanic Americans and to act as if it's your birthright disqualifies you. And for what it's worth, I grew up in a Manhattan building filled with Jewish people near NYU. Your net worth was their pocket change. If there was ever a group of white Americans that could have treated GERMAN Santos and his HISPANIC CATHOLIC family in a bigoted manner it would have been these people. But instead, they treated us like royalty and they treated me like I was one of their children or grandchildren. It's why at first, I could hardly take your cops moonlighting as the East German Stasi seriously. And then the viciousness started. Stop trying to blame your Mayor and take the "log out of your own eyes first". AMDG

no, I always think Stewart is Captain Picard; on a more serious note, you must be familiar with the rants on OC Craigslist where Mexican bashing is a sport. I for one am actually surprised when OC'ians are NOT racist dipshits, not the other way around.

Sorry, but I relate to Carroll O'Conner the person. On the other hand he played on the TV Series "In The Heat of the Night" which actually made his character opposite that of Archie Bunker. Yes, I can relate to why you did it, but I can still not like it. I have no clue who Patrick Stewart is. I've never heard of Professor X.

Absolutely. If you are a white, christian, conservative male, it's open season. You can ridicule, get racist and offensive as you want without repercussion. They can't even disagree with a minority without being accused of a racist.

Ask a Mexican

Of course he was, but here, he's Archie Bunker, a character he played. You can differentiate between the two, right—or do you think Patrick Stewart is always Professor X?

Sad that you had to use Carroll O'Conner's picture. In real life he was a very fair man.

But it''s ok for the mayor of the City of Costa Mesa to give retroactive 4% payraises to it's police officers with a $7 Million Surplus of money they suddenly found but not create any jobs or new businesses in order to put people to work with it. The mayor is after all suing the police union for a slight against him by the police.

Where are the jobs Righeimer?

And people accuse me of being off topic with regards to comments. LOL.Cops and cop apologists framing someone for a crime that they did not commit isn't a slight. When done while hiding behind a badge it is actually a serious crime which can win the offending idiot a bunk next to Mike Carona. Based on the personal story you've mentioned in your past comments , I would have thought you would know this.
