Not the BEES!

See the update at the end of the post about Irvine kids being safe from bees again.

ORIGINAL POST, Oct. 4, 2:00 p.m.:

It's pandemonium down at UC Irvine, where a bee swarm is apparently wreaking havoc.

"Swarm of bees in the area of Aldrich Park and Physical Sciences area occurred at 1:00 PM," the university texted its students around 1:20 p.m. "Use caution when outside and stay out of Aldrich Park area until further notice."

The sentence that followed contained what might be some of the most Irvine advice ever seen.

The text, which was received at 4:19 p.m. EDT, 1:19 p.m. PST.

"Call 9-1-1 if you are stung or see a swarm of bees," the text advised.

One can only imagine the legion of physicists now currently staring out their windows, phones at the ready.

Joking aside, the UCI Police Department, who has already received multiple bee calls, is advising students to stay out of the area and call 9-1-1 if they see the swarm or are stung. Paramedics are already on the scene and are available to provide treatment.

Anyone who can grab a photo of the bees, send them to the us WHY ARE YOU PHOTOGRAPHING BEES RUN AWAY.

UPDATE, Oct. 4, 3:13 p.m.:
According to UC Irvine's emergency texting service, ZotAlert, the bee hive has been removed, and much of Aldrich Park has been reopened. The area around McGaugh Hall will remain closed until 5:00 p.m.

As one UCI student put it: "Fires at Berkeley, swarms of bees in Irvine... Napolitano has literally brought down the ten plagues on UC"

"Papa, where have the bees gone? You didn't kill them?"

"Oh, don't worry, son-- we had them moved to where they can only sting poor people!!"

I guess some could find it racist... not sure how though, I did not. It thought it was kinda creative. Just because someone paints there face black and performs as a black faced performer, doesn't make it racist. As creative as it was... it was more flattering towards JayZ than insulting. Did JayZ find it offensive? Whatever... people will complain cuz they need to be heard and nobody else is listening to them.

Just saying, it's ZotAlert, not ZotLink.

OMG, only Irvine alarmist's would CALL THE COPS for a natural occurrence. I think the people of IRVINE need a BUBBLE UPGRADE and have ANOTHER LAW to protect them from such DANGER.

Do they not have anyone that studies insects available? While swarming bees look scary, it's actually one of the least dangerous times to be around bees.

UCI deserves the bee attack for that dumb racism video earlier this year. Long live Cal State Fullerton.

I hit this giant swarm of bees on the way to work the other day. At the time they were near barranca and technology drive close to the Irvine Spectrum. So glad I had my windows up.

TIL: To avoid the appearance of nepotism as the nephew of Francis Ford Coppola, he changed his name early in his career to Nicolas Cage, inspired in part by the Marvel Comics superhero Luke Cage. He tried out for the role of Dallas Winston in his uncle's film The Outsiders, based on S.E. Hinton's novel, but lost to Matt Dillon. He was also in Coppola's films Rumble Fish and Peggy Sue Got Married.

Thanks for reminding me. I've been meaning to rent this movie for a while. Saw it on tv one year but never finished it.
