Janet Nguyen, County Supervisor, Caught Using Her Parade "Prop" in a Most Negligent Way

janet-nguyen_107.jpg
A veteran Orange County political observer believes he has caught county Supervisor Janet Nguyen in a crime.

No, not the usual crimes of corruption or moral negligence toward the poor usually associated with the County of Orange's Board of Supervisors.

This one will have folks screeching, "But wotta 'bout the chillllllldren!"

Or, more specifically, a child. Supervisor Nguyen's child!

Go to New Santa Ana and you'll see that the artful Art Pedroza has posted a photo of Nguyen riding in the back of a convertible VW in last Sunday's Fiestas Patrias Parade in downtown Santa Ana.

The supervisor, who is a candidate for the state Senate in 2014, is seen riding not in a seat but atop the folded-down canvas car roof between the top of the backseats and the trunk (or engine compartment if new VW's are like the old Bugs).

In Nguyen's lap: her child, who does not appear to be belted into anything and is most certainly not in a law-required car seat.

Pedroza:

Here is what the State of California has to say about this:

* Children under the age of 8 must be secured in a car seat or booster seat in the back seat.
* Children under the age of 8 who are 4′ 9″ or taller may be secured by a safety belt in the back seat.
* Children who are 8 years and over shall be properly secured in an appropriate child passenger restraint system or safety belt.
* Passengers who are 16 years of age and over are subject to California's Mandatory Seat Belt law.
* Buckling up is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Also, seat belts are the best defense against impaired, aggressive, and distracted drivers.

It is outrageous that an elected official would break the law, in the open air, at a public event, but that is precisely what Nguyen did. She used her kid as a prop.

The New Santa Anan notes that the supervisor previously used her child as a prop at a Tet Parade, providing a photo of that kiddie dangling also.

As for the latest incident, Pedroza informs in an email, "It reminded me of Michael Jackson holding his kid off a balcony years ago."

Perhaps we should start a collection for a sitter.

Seriously? "Veteran political observer?"

Guess my 12 year-old nephew qualifies as a "Veteran political observer" then (3 years writing reports, etc about "political.").

Btw, WHO is Art Pedroza? Didn't he once support the Republican platform, simply as a small business owner, comic book stores in Placentia and one other area (La Habra I believe was the other location).

Haha, what a joke Matt Coker, seriously?  Ever been to a parade and seen anyone with proper seatbelts?

Did Nguyen commit the crime or did the or did Cooker or the Veteran Observer "Pedroza".  The

real crime is wasting time and effort...this story should have been scrapped.  Supervisor Nguyen

was in a parade and she was being told to sit on top with her child.  Any proud mother would want to show off her kid.  The problem is that the parade or volunteer did not provide a safe seating area for the two.  And Nguyen assumed it was ok and things were going to be slow and safe.

Sounds like someone wants to dig up dirt on Nguyen.  For that I say, GET A LIFE, leave the woman (Nguyen) alone.   Find something else to gossip about.  I was a parade---get over it.

I do not know who is MORE at fault.  This news rag or the Professional Spotter.

Actually this bugs me because she makes a HUGE deal about "protecting" the child from media exposure. She brought the baby to Los Amigos one Wednesday morning, and pulled the kid out of the pram when he fussed, everyone oohed and ahhed and she stopped a few people from snapping pics, she also at the end of the meeting make a specific request that anyone who snapped a pic please delete it as they were trying to control the images out of there of the children. At the time I respected that, she takes the kids everywhere with her, and then expects privacy which is odd, but I can respect it. But when you take a baby to a parade, how much control are you going to maintain with the images shot that day? Talk about grandstanding gestures. And yes it was STUPID to have a babe in arms in the precarious position atop a car! Even at 5 mph a sharp stop could pull the baby from her grip and send him flying. Moron. Absolute moron. Bad enough she sucks as a leader, it looks like she may suck as a parent. and THAT is the more important job, by far. Very sad.

NO, I will tell you why this IS IMPORTANT

When the people we trust (???) to make the laws are allowed an exception THAT IS LEADING TO MORE TROUBLE

DOESNT MATTER 5 MPH

If any deserves a break its a non power seeking citizen

This is the most rediculous "news" story I have ever seen.  She was in a parade for goodness sakes!!!  Probably going 5 miles an hour at peak.  Find something else to get excited over...  And no, I don't know Nguyen, never met Nguyen or ever even heard of Nguyen... this is the BEST form of "any press is good press"
