End of Federal Probe into Claims Muslims Created Anti-Semitic Climate at UCI Cheered

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) office in Anaheim, which covers Southern California, is cheering news that the Department of Education (DOE) is closing an investigation into whether Palestinian rights activism on three UC campuses, including Irvine's, created an anti-Semitic climate. The DOE's Office for Civil Rights was also looking at the University of California schools at Berkeley and Santa Cruz.

The DOE had been responding to complaints that student protests and academic programming in support of Palestinian rights and critical of Israel "created a hostile environment for Jewish students," according to CAIR's California offices.

The investigation of UC Irvine began first, in 2007, followed by UC Santa Cruz in March 2011 and UC Berkeley in July of last year.

There had been reports of tensions between Muslim and Jewish students at UCI dating back long before Israel's ambassador to the U.S. was shouted down by several Muslim Student Union (MSU) members during a February 2010 appearance on campus. The MSU has previously claimed the DOE probe began after complaints about fiery speakers at the 2007 Israel Apartheid Week teach-in the organization sponsored.

But the investigation drew blowback from CAIR's California offices as well as attorneys from Advancing Justice-Asian Law Caucus, the Center for Constitutional Rights and the National Lawyers Guild.

"This is a victory for student free speech," says Zahra Billoo, executive director of CAIR-San Francisco Bay Area, in a statement. "We hope that students who exercise their First Amendment right to advocate for human rights and social justice will continue to do so on their college campuses without fear or intimidation."

There have been a lot of "climates" created at UCI - what happened to our Blackfaced Asian friends there? - I forgot.

There's nothing ant-semitic about calling out the chaos and genocide Israel has been causing for the past 65 years! That whole "anti semitic" non-sense is a distraction for us no to question their malevolent intentions.

I am always confused with the dual use of Jew3ish as a Race and a Religion. Zionism is a system or racial/religious Apartheid.

The nation state of Israel is different then the Jewish faith. The anti-Semitic charge is so that Israel can keep its imperialism going.

Yay!  Now the UCI MSA students can resume their regularly scheduled anti-Israel activities, inviting their anti-Isreal speakers with their anti-Isreal lies and name-calling and anti-Jew hate speech and conspiracy theories, resume meeting with senior Hamas members (a designated terrorist organization whose charter says that Muslims will fight the Jews (and kill them)), keep their connections to the ISM and it's "resistance" efforts, resume public holocaust denying, and of course denying the free speech of others by shouting down anyone who comes to speak different viewpoints then their own. It's delightful to have such a free exchange of cultural ideas at a modern institution of higher learning. Of course, NEVER try any of those tactics against muslims or gays or blacks or latinos. That is against the UCI code of ethics. Only certain protected groups are allowed the freedom of hate speech.

Noone else sees a problem with us letting in foreign terrorist sympathizers into our Universities? I understand we have budget issues but would anyone here really care if we just deported these clowns? Free speech and all sure but there's no human right being violated by deporting these people. They can just as easily go study in Europe.

@vegandawg23 Education is better in the United States and they have more freedom of expression here.  Many European countries who opened thier borders to the Muslim hoards, are now up to their eyeballs in that proverbial brown stuff.  The immigrants now want their Sharia Law to supercede the law of the country.  There will come a day perhaps not in our lifetime, but in that of our kids and grandkids, where we will have to put down the Muslims and terrorist support groups like CAIR, as has been done in past history.  You make your bed, then you better be prepared to sleep in it.

@vegandawg23 I'm pretty sure the Israelis would complain if we kicked out all their students.

@vegandawg23 Deporting them on what basis?  What laws have they broken?  And you make a HUGE assumption that these are all foreign students when in most likelihood these are natural born citizens.

How about you deport yourself?  You can easily go study under that rock you prefer.

@JoeG @vegandawg23 They are not citizens, but foreign students. We don't need "basis" or a good reason. They are sympathetic to terrorist Palestinians and hostile to the existence of an ally of this country. Is there some unalienable right for a muslim extremist to study in US universities?

@STOPTHERECONQUISTA @muhammed @JGlanton  muhammed, don't hold your breath praying to Allah that one day you radical Muslims will take over the United States.  Just because we have a closet Muslim President and radical Czar run Justice Department doesn't mean the fat lady is about to sing.  In the end, people like yourself will go down in history as just another group of enemies of the United States who underestimated the resolve, determination and patriotism of it's citizens.  One win, doeth not the War make.
