ORIGINAL POST, AUG. 5, 10:28 A.M.: Another weekend, another suspect fatally shot by an officer with an Orange County law enforcement agency.

Saturday morning it was the late Eric Marquez, 26, of Orange, who was shot and killed after he and another man ran away from a vehicle stopped by Huntington Beach Police.

For reasons not yet disclosed, a uniformed Huntington Beach officer confronted the men in the residential area of Glencoe Avenue and Silver Lane around 7:45 a.m. Sunday, when both got out of the vehicle and ran.

The cop, described only as a nine-year veteran of the force, chased one man, which led to a confrontation and Marquez being shot, according to an HB Police statement. The officer was not injured and a handgun was found at the scene, police added.

Meanwhile, the second guy got away. He was described as Latino, 6 feet tall, 200 pounds and in his early 20s. He had a shaved head and was last seen dressed all in black. He disappeared running north on Sher Lane.

Anyone who saw the officer-involved shooting or knows the escapee's whereabouts is asked to call Orange County sheriff's homicide detectives at 714.647.7000.

UPDATE, AUG. 7, 7 A.M.: Perhaps attempting to stave off the kind of citizen protests that have accompanied other recent fatal shootings by Orange County law enforcement, the sheriff's department issued a press release pointing out that "evidence and witness statements" indicate Eric Marquez fired a gun at the Huntington Beach police officer who shot him to death.

The gun Marquez carried was recovered at the scene, add deputies, who are investigating Saturday's shooting.

Investigators have not determined the motives for Marquez's actions leading up to the shooting, according to the preliminary investigation. The second man who fled the vehicle with Marquez might be able to shed more light on that. He's still being sought and is described as Hispanic, in his early 20s, 5-foot-10, 200 pounds with facial hair and a shaved head.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's department's Homicide Unit at 714.647.7046.

Good Job HBPD....not a good idea to run from the Police, Not a good idea to carry a gun illegally, not a good idea to point a gun at a cop....Good job to the POLICE....keep up the good work....

I'm sure that the cop just happened to come across two innocent individuals out for a run with their handgun and just decided to shoot them for no good reason. That sounds logical.

Ok. Jerry, you are right, the cops are out to frame innocent people just so they can shoot and kill them. Sound legit to me.

O know you dont need a permit to cary a gun but they the cops want to use the excise to kill people for having one. There was a murder last year and witneses said that a man that was shot and killed from behind didnt have a gun and then later on after a few days they come put and say that he did have a gun.It was all a lie.The cop says that there was a strugle and you believe them. The cop could have used peper spray or shot his leg. They were probably being harased I get stoped alot for no reason and harased and I'm a law abiding citisen that has never comited any crimes. You would run to if you see alot of police brutality do you think I like siting on the floor for an hour for no dam reason. sometimes I to want to run. I dont like guns being pointed at my head next thing you know you get shot and they have to cover it up.I dont think the guy had a gun and if he did so what.Alot of people cary guns.Go back to what hapened a few years ago when they found cops who would not only plant evidence but also drugs and guns to bust and frame people. The badly planted gun was when this guy thay shot from the back was planted with a shotgun and it was placed in a way that didnt make sence. people who saw this man running said that he didnt have a gun much less a shotgun. You pull your head out of the sand everything isnt nice and rosy like you think it is.

You don't need a permit to own a gun, so I have no idea what you're talking about on that front. And no, I don't know that they planted the gun, and you don't either. So lets review the facts, cop pulls over a car. Two guys run. Cop chases. There is a struggle and the guy gets shot, and they find his gun at the scene. So that would lead a reasonable person to believe that some time during the struggle, the guy went for his gun. The cop went for his and boom, dude is shot. So I have to ask some questions.... 1. Why were they pulled over? 2. What were they so scared of that they ran? 3. Why did the guy have a gun with him in the first place? 4. Do you honestly think cops carry around extra guns in their pockets to plant at scenes? C'mon dude, pull your head out. One last thing, describe to me what a "badly planted" gun would look like at the scene of a shooting.

so tell us why did he deserve to loose his life?

You know they planted that gun. There always plating shit just like they did with somemother guy they killed in anaheim a while back. Witnesses said the man they killed didnt have a gun and all of a suden one apears and badly planted. By the way is that a new law kill someone if they have a gun? They will surely be killing alot of people then with all the gun permits.

You must have missed the part where they found the guys hand gun at the scene. I'm sure it was a convenient oversight on your part.

Your headline is misleading, ambiguous and leads one to make a potentially incorrect conclusion.

Man runs and he gets shot by cop same as usual.I have heard cops say that if someone runs from them that they will shoot them. cops are out of control this shit will just keep hapening. they are turning very abusive and murdering people for no reason.

Maybe I'm blind because I didn't see any evidence.

Funny how the headline leads you to believe that this scumbag didn't deserve to be shot.
