Melanie Elaine McGhee Shot at by Cop While Standing Over Husband With Hatchet: Police

Long Beach Police say an officer fired a round at a 33-year-old woman Saturday night because she allegedly went at her husband with a hatchet and would not put it down.

Melanie Elaine McGhee, 33, was not hit, but she was booked into the Long Beach jail Sunday morning on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Officers were called to the apartment in the 1100 block of Walnut Avenue around 11:05 p.m. Saturday, arriving to find McGhee standing over her unidentified husband with the hatchet, preparing to attack him, according to police.

A single shot was fired, and McGhee surrendered, police said, adding the husband was not injured.

McGhee was later moved from the city jail to Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, where she was held on $500,000 bail. Though she was not shot, Long Beach homicide detectives are investigating the officer-involved-shooting portion of the incident.

Justifiable - unless it's the white female Long Beach cop who u-turned in front of my wife with no siren ON as we were on our way to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. In that case, investigate further. Leave no hatchet unturned.
