It remains a mystery at this hour why an Orange County sheriff's deputy on routine patrol drove his cruiser into a light pole along Marguerite Parkway near Vista Del Lago in Mission Viejo around 3 this morning.

The unidentified deputy was ejected from the car and suffered a head injury, according to a sheriff's department statement.

Taken to Mission Hospital Laguna Beach in critical condition, the deputy was later upgraded to serious condition.

The male deputy, a 13-year veteran of the force, was later said to be "responsive, recognizing individuals who have come to visit him" in the hospital, according to a sheriff's spokesperson.

The department's Major Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the single-car crash that resulted in no other injuries.

Uh Good - It just goes to show that they're using some of the confiscated cocaine that doesn't belong to them.

Confiscation by the police is theft.

"80 percent of all cops are criminals and violate the laws while they're on duty and are being paid to do so and be so". They need to bust themselves.

Two days later and no name?.  The OC Sheriff's Dept. has the media under control as always.  Manage the message so no one can control the truth.  At the expense of a light pole?  No credibility here, not since Carona.  Embarrassing.

We work with this Deputy in our first due!  He is an awesome deputy and goes the extra mile to help those that are heading down the wrong path.  I can tell you that the evening this happened that it was very foggy, damp, and at the time of night that the sprinklers in the city of Mission Viejo go for long enough periods to mix with the oil on a busy street such as Marguerite.  We were dispatched to another call in our first due at the exact time this accident took place, so I know what the road conditions were like.  I'm sure the investigation will reveal the real cause of the incident.  I just want those that read this to know that the man that was ejected from the vehicle is one of our(Firefighters) favorite deputies.  We hope that he returns to duty very soon!

How are we supposed to regard law enforcement as professionals when they exhibit unprofessional behavior on a regular basis?

Check his personal cell phone. Bet he was texting while driving.

He saw what looked to be a gun and took out the pole.

Is it physically possible to be ejected from a vehicle while wearing seat belts?

I wonder if it was caused by distracted driving or by being under the influence.?

@Brainwashed_in_church O very likely. The picture of the sheriffs car doesn't look like the impact was hard enough to break away the seat bel and send him flying. Im guessing he was either texting while driving or e was intoxicated or both.

@Brainwashed_in_church I know it was physically possible according to video from inside a van that, while rolling over on a highway, broke a passenger out of his strapped-down seat belt and threw him onto the pavement.
