Longtime readers know I"m a huge fan of legendary cartoonista Lalo Alcaraz because only he and he alone knows how to illustrate my pathetic love life. But what's also amazing about Lalo is like a fine queso, he only gets better as the years go on. Nearly 20 years ago, he busted onto the national spotlight with "Migra Mouse," his depiction of Mickey Mouse as a Border Patrol agent done in response to news that Disney had donated money to California governor Pete Wilson's reelection campaign.

Nowadays, Alcaraz is even faster. Yesterday, as digital Aztlán erupted in anger with news that Disney was trying to trademark "Dia de los Muertos" to sell a bunch of crap, Alcaraz went to the drawing board and created "Muerte Mouse," Mickey now a Godzilla-like skeleton destroying civilization. HILARIOUS!

Here's a bigger version for your viewing pleasures--pass it on! Or, better yet, wait until Alcaraz makes prints and sells them at your nearest Chicano-themed store!

I first noticed the Dia de Los Muertos displays at Disneyland a few years ago. They were put waaaayyyy in the back of frontier land where they also have Jack Skellington & Nightmare before Christmas Halloween displays. As a Latina was excited to see that DL had finally started to include our Holidays. The displays have grown over the past few years and included pin trading items. I figured Disney was finally taping more into the Hispanic culture for the $$$. I also noticed they started having more hannukah items, including Cinderella & Princess themed menorahs which I thought were a bit over the top and culturally/religiously offensive and i'm not even Jewish, i'm Catholic. They have vinylmations already, whats next Mickey themed serapes? Wait they might actually alreay have those at Epcot. But, trying to trademark the Holiday DDLM? ...........this takes the cake!
