Christian Isaiah Barnes Pleads Not Guilty to Disneyland Dry-Ice Explosions: Update

See the update at the end of this post with Christian Barnes' not guilty plea and bail being halved.

ORIGINAL POST, MAY 30, 11:24 A.M.: The good news for Christian Isaiah Barnes, the Disneyland employee accused of setting off a dry-ice "bomb" in Toontown Tuesday, is his bail is expected to be cut in half.

The bad news is, even if the Long Beach 22-year-old can post a $500,000 bond, he's looking at up to six more years behind bars with a conviction.

As the Mexican-in-chief reported Wednesday, Barnes was arrested on suspicion of planting the explosive device and initially held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Christian Barnes, Disneyland Cast Member, Arrested for Toontown Explosion, Held on $1 Million Bail

An Orange County District Attorney's office (OCDA) statement on Barnes expected 1 p.m. arraignment in Santa Ana today reveals he has been charged with a felony count of possession of a destructive device in a public place and that the judge is expected to set bail at $500,000.

Barnes works at outdoor vending carts in the Anaheim theme park, where he is accused of having had two water bottles containing dry ice with him on Tuesday.

When a female employee went to relieve Barnes sometime after 4 p.m., he opened a cart door and one bottle exploded, alleges the OCDA, which characterizes these homemade devices as dangerous.

Barnes is further accused of walking with the second bottle to the cast member break area but tossing it inside a Toontown trash can. Someone on garbage detail removed the trash bag holding the bottle and set it down briefly. That's when the second one exploded.

Toontown was evacuated, the Orange County Sheriff's Department Bomb Squad joined Anaheim Police at the scene, and no one was reported injured (save for some ringing in the ears) nor was there any damage, not even to the trash can.

Barnes was arrested shortly after police said they'd be examining Disney surveillance video from the area. His father has been all over the media saying he's a good boy who made a mistake, that this was a prank that police are overreacting to and that getting fired would be a reasonable punishment.

UPDATE, MAY 30, 3:18 P.M.: Christian Barnes pleaded not guilty at his arraignment today.

As expected, the judge halved his bail to $500,000. Barnes is due back in court June 7 for a pre-trial hearing.

Im sure if he was Muslim it would be a much bigger deal and he would be called a terrorist !! So annoying!

What he did was really dumb and I'm sure he thought it was a funny prank.  But with all of the bombings he should have known that he'll get prosecuted to the fullest extent and made an example of.  I also think he wanted people to think that it was a bomb.  He works for Disney, did he not realize all of the security they have?!  6 years is a little steep if you ask me.  He should definitely be fired and face some sort of community service but I don't think he deserves prison time over this.

Most DOMESTIC terrorists are though... But that's neither here nor there. What a stupid thing to do and now a lifetime of repercussions for a "prank". If you WORK for Disneyland, you should be full aware of the level of security in the park... Cameras everywhere.

Mickey Mouse has Lost All Common Sense. This Is Beyond Over-Reacting of Law. RIDICULOUS. If, Disney is so quick to charge a young man for a non-dangerous dry ice prank in a soda bottle WHY are the Disney Officials Not Addressing the DISTURBING TREND of RICH EAST COAST PARENTS hiring on Purpose Handicap Escorts so their Privileged Children can go to the Front of the Line? This is Exploitation of Persons with Disabilities, Disney's HUGE PROFIT from this, ABUSE OF POWER and FRAUD. That's More than a $1 million dollar bond and More than 6 years in Federal Prison. Don't ya think Mr. Mousey?

Now, if only poor Christian had had the privilege of being one of the rare students talented enough to attend UCI, he could have claimed to be one of the 0.79% of black UCI students made to feel like an outcast by the  70% majority of brown-skinned students, and thus could have claimed emotional distress, his life having been ruined by stories of an asian kid singing badly in blackface, and had to go blow some white shit up (in the most geeky way possible with the exception of mentos and diet coke).  Some guys never get a break.

Another waste of tax dollars . Just cite & release as a misdemeanor for disturbing the peace & fire him.

This will be a very hard lesson to learn and perhaps it will detain other employees or tourists from doing the same thing in the future.

6 years for dry ice? I've seen people get less time for killing somebody in cold blood!

What would a clear background check do in this case? It's probably his first recorded offense.

It is implied, as your butt buddy Joey Callo came out and posted above, that if he was white, he'd already be on his way with a slap on the wrist. However, since he's black, he's staring at 6 years. And if he was arab, we'd be calling him a terrorist. The Arabs and blacks being the "victims" in your race card play. Get it?

Dumbass deserves his long prison sentence. The company should do more thorough background checks.

I can believe that he is a "good boy who made a mistake". These kind of pranks and shenanigans are all over youtube and great fun for good boys all over the country. Dry ice in plastic soda bottles is a popular one and is generally harmless. There is no cause to call it a "bomb" or "explosive" or "destructive device" like so many of the media are doing.

His "mistake", however, was very stupid and dangerous. Causing panic in a place full of small children could have led to injuries and trauma. Endangering children in a stampede is the reason he should be punished. A little time in a cell, and a LOT of community service, would be appropriate. He's not a fucking terrorist. He's a fucking idiot.

He is. Why else would he make a comment like "a Nabil no less". Just like the racist who liked his comment.

@bdglugla Then go home Babu and put a dry ice in a coke bottle and leave it in a mosque. Bet you get your head chopped off there for doing that. Enjoy no bacon, porn and beer as well while you're there.
